lol if it makes you all feel better it was just as confusing trying to write it

Michael Keaton curses like a sailor.

It's fascinating how it took him so long to "get" the Beetlejuice character, but that when he finally did he really did.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 January 2013 19:45 (eleven years ago) link
I can't wait to listen to this
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 January 2013 19:47 (eleven years ago) link
That was a really good one. Keaton has lots to say for a guy who doesn't talk much.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 January 2013 20:03 (eleven years ago) link
(I mean he actually talks a lot (A LOT!) but rarely does any media.)
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 January 2013 20:04 (eleven years ago) link
mere minutes into that interview & i'm grinning like a loon
it's him! it's really him
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 January 2013 20:46 (eleven years ago) link
I don't know why I didn't know he was from Pittsburgh? He sure sounds like it once he really starts talking
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 January 2013 21:34 (eleven years ago) link
Man, this was one of those conversations where Marc really slots in with somebody and they just go.

Best one in quite some time.

Yeah it feels like a more relaxed version of the Robin Williams interview. Such a great flow, no real prodding needed, just a little air traffic control here and there to wave him on-course.

Nice, I am so looking forward to this, thanks for the flag. I sorta lost track of/got tired with this podcast when he started interviewing musicians, so seems a good time to dive back in.
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 4 January 2013 12:26 (eleven years ago) link
Could've written that exact post myself.

Dave Alvin episode is still a good one though.

Just starting the Seth Green one right now (love him) and Elizabeth Banks and Dave Grohl next week. Good little run.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 10 January 2013 19:19 (eleven years ago) link
psyched for Grohl. (wincingly psyched, granted)

I was surprised by the Blues Traveller one being fun but surely there's no reason to listen to Jakob Dylan ep?
― ( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Friday, 11 January 2013 02:02 (eleven years ago) link
I was tempted to listen to Jakob Dylan just to hear the insane (hopefully!) awkwardness of Marc trying not to talk about Bob Dylan. (Jakob has a notoriously strict "Don't mention my dad" policy wrt media and marketing, if I recall.)
― sean gramophone, Friday, 11 January 2013 02:11 (eleven years ago) link
(Jakob has a notoriously strict "Don't mention my dad" policy wrt media and marketing, if I recall.)
Doesn't do much media then?
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 January 2013 02:15 (eleven years ago) link
Did Maron hook up with Jakob Dylan via Kerri Kenney? IIRC she mentioned on WTF that she and Jakob were friends.
― jaymc, Friday, 11 January 2013 02:34 (eleven years ago) link
i tried and failed to get through blues traveller, but i enjoyed the jakob dylan one, especially the stuff about his bad experience making a record with rick rubin.
― keef qua keef (Jordan), Friday, 11 January 2013 15:12 (eleven years ago) link
Oh, there's Rubin talk? I may give in and listen to it.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 January 2013 15:21 (eleven years ago) link
can't wait to hear again about how much "Nevermind" blew the mind of the 28 year old Maron
― President Keyes, Friday, 11 January 2013 15:28 (eleven years ago) link
x-post when Dylan started criticizing the Cash American albums, I was like "it's on"
I actually agree with Jakob on the Neil Diamond/Rubin album. I thought stripping him back totally missed everything that Neil Diamond is about.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 January 2013 18:28 (eleven years ago) link
Surprised that the Jakob Dylan interview really wasn't painful or offputting. He actually seems like a decent dude.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 January 2013 19:04 (eleven years ago) link
how far in is the Rubin talk?
― ( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Saturday, 12 January 2013 14:12 (eleven years ago) link
it's throughout the whole interview--first about Cash and Diamond, then later about his own Rubin album
― President Keyes, Saturday, 12 January 2013 14:56 (eleven years ago) link
damn you guys
― ( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Saturday, 12 January 2013 15:17 (eleven years ago) link
yeah I still dunno if I can bring myself to do it. Jakob Dylan's about as interesting as paint to me
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 12 January 2013 18:39 (eleven years ago) link

I turned off Banks a bit before halfway. I don't know if she's an asshole, but it wasn't very interesting.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 17 January 2013 03:15 (eleven years ago) link
I was looking forward to hearing that one, but now considerably less so.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 January 2013 03:16 (eleven years ago) link
Banks does seem a bit smug, I guess, but I found the chat fairly engaging, actually.
― jaymc, Thursday, 17 January 2013 03:31 (eleven years ago) link
Finally made it through this; Rubin talk is mostly about 3/4ths in, but nothing seriously juicy or snarky. It basically amounted to, "I thought Rubin would have ideas. He didn't. So I had to finish the album quickly."
He also said that the "authenticity" angle of the Cash records amounted to a "parlor trick."
― Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 17 January 2013 03:42 (eleven years ago) link
I'm a little behind, just listening to the Adam Schlesinger one in which Schlesinger spends the whole time being kind of pleasantly bemused about the fact that Maron seems to have listened to a Fountains of Wayne record for the first time maybe a half-hour before the podcast. "Green Day, what about Green Day, they're doing your kind of thing, right, you hang out with those guys?"
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 17 January 2013 04:56 (eleven years ago) link
oh yeah, also, this, I don't think the podcast gives the impression he'd actually be a very good standup, but in fact he is
