Bassline more rictus than half-smile surely?

Tim F, Thursday, 20 December 2012 14:16 (eleven years ago) link

right right, sugar-addled

r|t|c, Thursday, 20 December 2012 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

What's amazing to me is that i still feel like i'm getting jackin', like it's still opening up and revealing its secrets to me. Truly a mary poppins' travel bag of music sub-genres.

yesss thisssssss finally

actually a perfect example of what we're saying, the build and vocal is pure basslineage but then it can't resist forcing joyous BABYBABYBABYBABYBAY right up against you on its own until suddenly the face falls and... "-by". [cue deliberately disorientating loping drop]

r|t|c, Thursday, 20 December 2012 14:23 (eleven years ago) link

i mean it sux to reuse a coinage but that whole amniotic suspension thing works even better with jackin than it did funky, it's always employing these little strategies to keep you inside it and never break free with pure release

r|t|c, Thursday, 20 December 2012 14:26 (eleven years ago) link

woah that tune's amazing

Tim F, Thursday, 20 December 2012 14:30 (eleven years ago) link

now that these our out of the way imo the only big recent omnipresent tune that remains to be id'd is the 'what must i do to prove to you' one

this might sound stupid but where can I get the digital version (if any) of the releases in this thread?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 7 January 2013 05:53 (eleven years ago) link

as opposed to..?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 7 January 2013 11:34 (eleven years ago) link

bigtunesmp3 for jackin, juno for garage

heard "Trouble" first without reading any info about it, boy was i not expecting *that* sample

Mind Taker, Monday, 7 January 2013 11:43 (eleven years ago) link

As opposed to vinyl I guess or white label. I can't find those Lorenzo tracks anywhere.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 7 January 2013 19:07 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think those last couple of lorenzos are out yet, but yeah bigtunesmp3 is the place for jackin

These are my current faves, love the ones with hip hop acapellas

watched DREDD 3D over the holidays, got me thinking about jackin naturally

the 2000ad throughline into suburban base hardcore sensibility maps itself quite well onto jackin - cannier and more modern than the archetypal thrill-power (maybe more kinda hewlett/tank girl?) but you still have that ezquerrian nutty diy crude near-grotesque brit energy going on in its raw atmospheric linearts, black humoured sardonic absurdities & gleeful violence & such

also same marriage of graf/hiphop culture and rock art cover abandon, not necessarily in a purely visual sense of course although sleepin is cheatin are a little merchandise economy i suppose, and then there's the certified jackin presentational semiotics

is yorkshire the new romford?

you want me to rewrite this clearer but how about i don't

yeah definitely, as i've said i'm especially keen on "Kamikaze" - it does offer a glimpse into a nightmarish alternate universe where jackin gets discovered and swamped by disenchanted dnb/fidget/breaks/etc dudes but for now it's just another great entry in the secret 'Beavis & Butthead do house' canon

Mind Taker, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 12:52 (eleven years ago) link

know about "Model", didn't bring it up due to its slightness :\

Mind Taker, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 13:05 (eleven years ago) link

i do not :(

difficult one to place too, "feel the energy rush" is an old sample, not quite sure if it's in the bigtunes nexus even

funky hedz will know this as "sunday roasting" and yes the likelihood of jackin succumbing to it in the next year has def been on my mind

http://soundcloud.com/bekai-productions

particularly occurred to me listening to brent kilner's new stuff, check the dread tag "heavy jackin" :O

although this one is actually pretty tuff tbh

r|t|c, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 14:11 (eleven years ago) link

might even release it on my daringly innovative new label that i shall call "slight nugs" what do yall think

r|t|c, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 14:12 (eleven years ago) link

we should make sure to keep an eye on jackin market penetrations

chris gresswell is signed to mike delinquent's new label

hannah wants 'none a dem'/'dappy' coming out on shadow child and kry wolf's new label

uh dj naughty playing linkoban/shorterz, think skream & benga might have played some bits too

anything else

"Naughty Good Girl" and "Model" to be released on Amine Edge's new label

Mind Taker, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 14:43 (eleven years ago) link

Ben UFO filched 'none a dem' off the dissensus thread, didn't seem very interested in any the other stuff posted on there though. That sort of attitude mystifies me tbh. Like, thats a killer track but what makes it stand out from all the other countless bangers Lorenzo's been involved in?

btw Isn't Naughty good girl already out? Or at least leaked, I've got a copy of it anyway but honestly don't remember where I got it.

Benny B, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 22:56 (eleven years ago) link

"None a Them" has a trippy tech-house feel that's not really commonplace in jackin, not surprising imho that a dj into that sort of thing could fall for it while being completely indifferent to "No Diggity", "Coke Diet" et al

"Naughty Good Girl" has been available for a few months now but only on bigtunes and is afaik the first jackin tune to get a re-release on a proper label (with a physical release too, maybe, perhaps?)... don't have a grasp on the label politics of jackin tbh but what i did notice is that bigtunes doesn't have a label category *at all*, it's all non-label releases and stuff that gets released on labels is usually sold elsewhere (Sleepin' Is Cheatin' catalog available on beatport but not on bigtunes for example)

"Erotic City" is fab, Lorenzo + Tom Something seems to be the winning combination atm

Mind Taker, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 13:24 (eleven years ago) link

I shouldn't love "Coke Diet" as much as I do...

Tim F, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 13:55 (eleven years ago) link

[hessle abuse redacted]

can't say i have too much time for mike delinquent as a dj (obv much love for productions) and that mix shares the vaguely nicheless and frankly remedial air of so much of the ldn urban interpretation right now

afaik anyway

I'm more surprised than anything.. I absolutely loathed the N.E.R.D. song. "Coke Diet" is ridiculous though.

Also enjoying right now:
everything Hannam does as Neeko (please release this stuff!)
Chris Gresswell - Deep Love
Hannah Wants & Lorenzo - I Still Love You (wow!)
Brent Kilner - Narcotics
Paul Lawrence - Everywhere I Turn
Billy Kenny's Diamond Rings refix.
Nick Hannam - Serious
Cavna & Chris Gresswell - When I Move

matt damon & the jb's (the anephric project), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:48 (eleven years ago) link

not sure i really get the big dealio with the neeko stuff, hannam distinguishes himself on so many fronts but not so much with the regular house imo

also you subconsciously think the alias is gonna invoke some nookie or more fire crew vibes but no

ah, the french, the eternal question... do they count. 'goodie goodies' was a fun jam last year, sorta funny they've gone for 'naughty good girl' in that respect with all the trap rap jackin leanings around

props to me for putting a load of bouncy rap house on my interzone moodboard ages ago btw

Mind Taker, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 15:19 (eleven years ago) link

You'd consider his Neeko stuff regular house?

I've only heard three of his Neeko productions (Lie to You, People Outside, and the Biggie sampling one). Part of why I like them so much is that to my ears they have a rougher, more nervous, rushy energy than some of his other productions. That, and I'm a genuine sucker for some of the acapellas that he's using.
