You rock for doing this and I'm happy to participate with the rules as they stand.

PS - nice trolling "glumdalclitch."

Krallice - Years Past Matter
Bosse-de-Nage - III
Car Bomb - w^w^^w^w
Wizard Rifle - Speak Loud, Say Nothing
Dog Shredder - Brass Tactics EP

anonanon, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 04:01 (eleven years ago) link

Is trolling normally a feature of metal poll?

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 15:48 (eleven years ago) link

1) Yes
2) They're real records
3) I think, from memory, the Wizard Rifle record is good enough to be nommed (though I might be thinking of someone else)

Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 15:59 (eleven years ago) link

Was talking about the other dude

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 16:01 (eleven years ago) link

The Wizard Rifle record is great.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 16:07 (eleven years ago) link

Sorry, I was only skimming this. I don't normally get involved in nomination threads.

Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 16:18 (eleven years ago) link

So far, there are 247 album nominations which is a lot but do remember Nominations will close at 7pm EST on Friday, December 21st 2012 (that's midnight for the Britishes and 4pm for our friends on the left coast of the US). so if there are more albums you wish to add then you have only a few more days to do so.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

Eagle Claw - Timing Of The Void

Not sure how I missed that one first time around.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 17:12 (eleven years ago) link

Seandalai will be doing the counting up votes dealio (thank ye kindly) and has suggested, in his communications with the new management team, ending the voting period a week or so earlier in order to influence some late voters in the proper ILM poll into voting some metal from this list. One assumes that will be A-OK with the majority of y'all? It will mean voting will end on Friday January 4th 2013 with roll-out commencing on the Monday. With voting opening this weekend it will give everyone time before Christmas as well as a few days into the new year for the stragglers. With smaller ballots than the past I do not foresee any problems especially as your favorite albums will have formed over the year. I fail to see how an album heard in nominating period could be a favorite or best of the year like what AG insisted on in previous polls. As we stated earlier the point of the poll is to decide on the BEST hard rock/metal albums of 2012 not a list of every album released. A separate list thread could be started for that.
I couldn't start nominations earlier because I had not got a reply from AG initially as the web-mail went to his spam folder. Luckily he found it and got back to us. So thanks to AG for that.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 17:32 (eleven years ago) link

sounds good.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 17:36 (eleven years ago) link

Also anything that was released for the 1st time in the US in 2012 is eligible. So The Devil's Blood album xhuxx nominated is added and so will other US releases from 2012 if there are any, and of course get nominated.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 19:18 (eleven years ago) link

I think the question in that case is – you're cool with something that placed on last year's poll placing in this one?

Bound by Habitrails (J3ff T.), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 22:35 (eleven years ago) link

My answer would be if you don't want it in the poll then don't vote for it but those who do can. What if you didn't vote for something last year as it wasn't out in the US? Not everyone lives in Europe or illegally downloads. I don't know what won last year but its highly unlikely it falls under this category. xhuxx nominated an album and it's up to individuals whether they vote for it or other US 2012 releases or not.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

Just FYI – 11. The Devil's Blood - The Thousandfold Epicentre (1,056 Points, 29 Votes, 3 #1s)

Bound by Habitrails (J3ff T.), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 23:22 (eleven years ago) link

xhuxx can always withdraw his nomination but someone else will probably just nominate it.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 00:55 (eleven years ago) link

I'll leave it up to you guys. It won't make my Top 20 anyway, so whatever you decide is fine. But I'm not sure why placing in two separate years would be a problem, if it got released in two different places and people therefore heard it for the first time in both years. (That's happened numerous times in Pazz & Jop, where literal release dates haven't even been a mandate since 1979 or 1980.)

xhuxk, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 01:47 (eleven years ago) link

xhuxk im fine with it and if its good enough for P&J its good enough for here.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 01:51 (eleven years ago) link

Fair enough, just trying to ascertain what the new rules are.

Bound by Habitrails (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 01:55 (eleven years ago) link

Trying to keep rules to a minimum really. Voting will sort out any issues and I strongly believe the previous system of vetoes led to too many problems.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 01:57 (eleven years ago) link

I listened to what the majority wanted and I believe this will make the poll work better.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 01:58 (eleven years ago) link

guys, "New Management" has bravely stepped up to create the kind of "Metal" poll that everybody on the "Who Wants a Metal Poll" voted for except the people who voted for "No Metal Poll" wanted so you should probably cut "him" some slack and just enjoy the "Metal" poll that all you "Metal" fans want to vote for

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

xp - Hear hear! I'm not gonna complain, metal is pretty much the only genre I pay attention to these days so the main EOY poll is not really something I get very excited about (but I do vote in it). I'd much rather have a metal poll that isn't exactly how I'd run it than have none at all.

I just got the Deiphago album I ordered from the States. I haven't listened to loads of metal this year, so I fidn voting in a poll like this a bit difficult... Can I vote for just one/two things pls?

besides Sunny Real Estate (dog latin), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 15:24 (eleven years ago) link

1 album minimum, so go ahead.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 15:52 (eleven years ago) link

I plan on voting, but maybe just for 10 albums, which are the 10 I listened to and liked, not like TOP TEN OF A ZILLION or w/e
Not even sure if I have 10? Either way, the ones I liked I liked a lot.

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 16:06 (eleven years ago) link

I will add albums from http://pitchfork.com/features/show-no-mercy/9021-the-top-40-metal-albums-of-2012/ that are not already nominated.

Anyone have full lists for Revolver or Terrorizer? Any other metal publications? Does Hit Parader still exist? Was there a Spin metal list?

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 18:39 (eleven years ago) link

Here's my favourites of the metal and metal-ish stuff I've reviewed or heard this year (that aren't already nominated). I'm probably missing something but anyway:

Dead Neanderthals - Jazzhammer/Stormannsgalskap
Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme
Jodis - Black Curtain
Murder Construct - Results
On Pain Of Death - Year Naught Doom
Serpentine Path - Serpentine Path
Wölfbait - Wölfbait

There was a spin list, actually. I am out so I don't have the link at hand, but should be fairly easy to find.

Also, sorry for being kind of a prat on this thread.

I've found out deftones won Revolver Album of 2012 but not seen the list of top 20 albums. Can someone try and post list here before friday night?

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 20:12 (eleven years ago) link

This is highly unorthodox but Algerian Goalie msged me and while he is apparently on an ILM posting quarantine he wants to nominate some albums. If nomination-by-proxy is allowed, his list is as follows:

Drudkh - Eternal Turn of the Wheel
Behold... the Arctopus - Horrorscension
Colour Haze - She Said
My Sleeping Karma - Soma
Dawnbringer - Into The Lair Of The Sun God
Cauldron - Tomorrow's Lost
Furze - Psych Minus Space Control
OM - Adviatic Songs
Raventale - Transcendence

I suppose if you think this is me trying to sneak in more nominations of my own (although AFAIK I have 5 left), some third party can back me up... AG if you're lurking plz let someone else know so they can confirm.

Thanks!

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 23:50 (eleven years ago) link

Tell him that's fine and he has more nominations left if he wants to add them and I am glad he is participating.

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Thursday, 20 December 2012 00:26 (eleven years ago) link

Thank you I will add most of it that's not already nominated but which of these aren't metal/heavy rock/alt-metal and shouldn't be in the nominations list? Amanda Palmer obviously. How Scott Walker? unlikely to have guitar riffs I'd imagine. Mono and Gybe are as guitar heavy as anything on Kerrang list so that's fine especially as no-one has to vote for them if they feel it shouldn't count.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Thursday, 20 December 2012 00:31 (eleven years ago) link

Remember this is a non-elitist poll compared to previous polls. Lets be more open-minded and unafraid of less hip more mainstream albums.

ILM METAL POLL 2012 (New Management), Thursday, 20 December 2012 00:34 (eleven years ago) link

What about pop-punk? Green Day and other bands like them were on the Kerrang! list and made it into the nominations spreadsheet... where do we stand on that?

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Thursday, 20 December 2012 00:53 (eleven years ago) link

Liars, black bananas and hexvessel aren't metal. The new mono is basically a neoclassical CD, although I don't really care if you include it or not. It's not so much a matter of being elitist or mainstream, more a matter of having things on the list that just don't fit the genre.

Bound by Habitrails (J3ff T.), Thursday, 20 December 2012 00:56 (eleven years ago) link

And it isn't a matter of serious voters voting for those albums, and more that if there are things that trolls can vote for to screw up the poll, they will vote for them.

Bound by Habitrails (J3ff T.), Thursday, 20 December 2012 01:01 (eleven years ago) link

That's why I didn't nominate Goatpenis this year.

Siegbran, Thursday, 20 December 2012 08:20 (eleven years ago) link

I got the Deiphago album through the post finally. Came as a rather splendid picture disc with brilliant artwork, an iron-on patch and a CD. Music sounds like someone yelling "SATAAAAAAAAAN" while throwing cutlery down the stairs.
