Ewwww. I'm having some Talisker with a few drops of Drambuie on it tonight, as dinner. heh. I've had a cold for a few days, and this will hopefully knock some of it out of me.

There was an article in Saturday's Wall Street Journal about "controversial" new products being introduced by Scotch distilleries, but they didn't even mention this abomination. The most controversial was Bruichladdich introducing a blend of three vintages in one bottle.
From your reports I guess the UK launch this past summer did not make a huge splash.

Having a flask bottle in the hip pocket feels suspiciously like I imagine a shoulder holster feels.

Also makes me imagine tats of Jack Daniels under the heart lol
once i took a pink alligator flask to a bar, and the guy checked my bag. and he was like, you have to leave this outside

Also--yall: all yall:: it is too hot for whiskey and that is why I am going to sit on my porch and sip whiskey and sweat in the humid ass texas night. Because tonight is that night.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 03:41 (3 years ago) Permalink
The night to do just that
i have to finish this beer, but afterwards i will rejoin you all with some sort of cold hard liquor beverage
xpost hmmm i am considering your argument and finding it fairly compelling (with state replacement of course)

For some reason I forgot/didn't realize Maker's Mark is also owned by Beam. Hrrm.

xp yes it is

I just think it's a bit rich for them to cite the bump in sales as a ratification of its "rare brand" rep. They just brilliantly/boneheadedly bullshitted everyone into thinking they would make it more rare, then immediately backed down. But anything sold by the jug in Costco is not "rare," lol.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 May 2013 14:20 (1 month ago) Permalink
xpost Fittingly, my friend considers Maker's an "airport" brand. That is, if you're stuck in the airport, and you need a sip of bourbon, you know there's at least Maker's. But neither he nor I have ever spent money on a bottle of the stuff.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 May 2013 14:22 (1 month ago) Permalink
yeah makers is usually the one ok bourbon at shitty bars and rock clubs

I usually get Wild Turkey 101 at the duty free but they had some honey version instead this time.

Wild Turkey 101 is awesome. Honey version likely not awesome, unless you are a 12-year old girl.

pretty sure the honey version is for SHOOOOTS

Found a quiet city centre bar selling powers 12 for <€5 per shot, quite the result imo

I was pretty impressed by the wonderfully redundantly named Russell's Reserve Small Batch Single Barrel bourbon. 55% ABV, but not too hot, very flavorful, enhanced by a dash of water. WT101 is such a good deal it's hard to shell out for a fancy bottle with no age statement (rumored to be 7 or 8), but I liked it a lot better than, say, Rare Breed.
