I've been listening to "Personet Hodie" for about a week now, heh.

I listen to christmas songs in the summertime, because I don't especially like summertime.

the Low Christmas album. And that Chrissy compilation on Fortuna Pop with Comet Gain and Saloon on it.

The worst Xmas song ever is the one mentioned in Nick Hornby's crappy 'About A Boy', which the annoying lead character lives off, as his dad wrote it. Although it doesn't actually exist, you just know it's shite. When I was a lad we used to sing 'Last Xmas, I gave you my heart, the very next day you gave it way, this year, I'll buy you a beer, a can of Carlsberg Special (special)', which cheers me up all year round.

Right now I'm listening to the Taiji Boys live album from December93 and they sing a few christmas songs. But I can't understand Korean so I don't hear any of the christmasy lyrics. (oh wait, they are doing winterwonderland in English)

I span 'Too Young To Die' by St. Etienne last night, and 'I Was Born On Christmas Day' sounded as gd as ever...

I prefer my Beach Boys surfin' and sports car songs on warm, sunny days, I must say, but I'll listen to Low's Christmas anytime. I play my 12" of Christmas Wrapping exactly once a year, as close to Xmas eve as feasible, depending on what I'm doing that year.

I'm listening to "Last Christmas" right now and it's great.
Good GAWD! Blergh. I don't know which is worse, George's haircut or the song. *shudder*.

SPECTOR'S XMAS RECORD!

There's never a bad time to listen to "Things Fall Apart" by Christina.

Also The Pines' "High Street" which ambushed me and sent me into unexpected blubbering at the height of last summer, and still sends me into more predictable sniffles whenever I hear it.

I could listen to T. Rex's "Celebrate Summer" any old time. Summer is heaven in 2007!

And I've had a real hankering for Burl Ives "Silver and Gold" the past few days.

Arthur, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I heard this great song last Christmas called 'I want a boy for Christmas'. Suzy Quatro was playing it on her radio 2 show. Anyone know this and who it's by? I would quite happily listen to it again in April.

Ondes Martenot, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Hey, Arthur roolz with that T. Rex choice. I should dig that out. And that prompts me to think of another thread...

Has anyone heard the Servotron one called something like 'Mass Destruction of Humans on Chrstmas Day' 'cos it's fucking ace. Heard it on the radio years ago, and found it on Audiogalaxy recently. Top, and indeed top.

I'll second Spector, also quite good is Maria Carrie's Spector pastiche 'All I want for Xmas is You' and I really, really, REALLY like The Cocteau Twins cover of 'Frosty The Snowman'.

Is it nearly christmas time ye

I was listening to Chet Baker's Christmas album from '86. Honestly, his Silent Night made me weepy. Got me thinking about opening a vessel rather than opening presents, but in the nicest way.

While I was standing in line for lunch today, the place I was in was playing a Christmas song about Santa that sounded a lot like an Ariel Pink song. It was weird.

The Moomins - "Silent Night"

http://www.finderskeepersrecords.com/shop/graeme-miller-steve-shill-silent-night/

No idea for how long Finders Keepers are gonna be giving away the mp3 as a download. The 7" is already sold out. Click on 'Tracklist and Soundclips' and the whole thing is there. The B-side, "Partytime" is even better.

I'm, dreaming, of a blue Christmas. Oh this confused me for a minute. They're packing a lot of words in but it works!

I heard the original version of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus for the first time last night. Jesus christ. Is it meant to be cute? I felt like Donald Sutherland getting butchered by the horrific dwarf at the end of Don't Look Now.
