Seriously, what a fabulous record. The section from 0:20 onwards is just euphoric. I'm playing it over and over in the dark in the depths of winter, with a beautiful warm feeling and a big summery grin on my face.

maybe i should go back to the air france ep but i was really hyped about hearing it at the time, and just didn't feel it in the slightest :(

That song would be better without the vocal bit, which is kinda bland and the tune doesn't really need it.

But quite nice otherwise.

just gave that EP another listen the other night, if I'd spent more time with it it would have placed in my list.

The mood here (especially video, but also the music) reminds me a bit of 'Star Guitar' by the Chemical Brothers. The Chemicals' video is something else, but 'No Excuses' is by far the better tune

it was ages before i realised it was basically trina's 'a milli' - not consciously i don't think, but they work in exactly the same way, a sparse beat which is barely there and totally extra at the same time, which just magnifies trina/wayne spitting o_0 weirdness.

the friendly fires aeroplane remix was a great recent revelation which i may well have voted for had i heard it in time - avoided it as hated the original but it's SO GOOOOD

Yes, the whole song is 13 minutes long and has a couple whole distinct movements to it that aren't in the youtube video. If it didn't have those other parts it would just be a really good DFA track, but with them it is WAU.

The 9-minute version that surfaced first was cut out of a mix. There's a whole nother section that didn't get used in that mix.

The full-length version is also available as a full track on Last.fm. I know because I listened to it earlier this evening. It bored me shitless.

Actually, no: there was one interesting bit towards the end when the bass got slightly evil. But, y'know, that still left 11'30" of tedium.

I truly think most of Juan's debut album is better than "Happy House," which is nice but in no way exceptional or terrific.

I'd also take three or four songs on the Hercules album before I'd pick "Blind" as the go-to track. But that's Internet era consensus for you...

Sorry to braek hart, Rev, but the four minutes of Happy House posted above actually made me not want to track down the other 8, it just seems so mundane

Listening to "Disturbia" now - had heard it 2-3 times before but now actually paying attention. It's pretty damn good except for the TITLE - "Disturbia"? It's just a corny word, and aligns badly with the the Marilyn Manson "gothy fast-motion spaz out" video imagery.

So, I just now on Youtube loaded the "Disturbia" video in one tab with the sound turned down, and Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" in another tab with the sound turned up. It works really really well on the Rihanna vid - the lipsynching is maybe a little tighter when you do the opposite setup, but the moments when Rihanna and her dancers spazz out in time with Manson's guitars are just bliss.

2008 = worst year for singles that has ever existed.

I stand by this as well.

Didn't remember this landing at #26, ahead of Alphabeat's "Fascination" at #27. That's as strong a one-two punch for a ballot of mine for as long as I've been voting in these.
