vaporize some planets you punks

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

the movie was terrible but watching emo Cyke get vaporised is one of my most treasured film experiences

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

he was actually vaporised due to the fact he had little shooting time and was cast in that mediocre Superman movie

mh, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

(not kidding)

mh, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

i always wondered about piotr and kitty's relationship in a "man of steel, woman of kleenex" sort of way

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

it's probably a good thing i have to go to the store to avoid chasing this line of thought any further

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

I categorically refuse to be drawn into this conversation because I have to go home

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:41 (eleven years ago) link

i mean...what if he...you know...during...

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:42 (eleven years ago) link

First Class was better than 3, but they both suuuuucked, though for different reasons. I liked Magneto: Nazi Hunter, just like in another universe I liked David: Space Dodderer, but man, I did not otherwise think Fassbinder did a good job. His strainin'-my-brain Magneto moves looked like he was taking a big dump in his pants.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:43 (eleven years ago) link

she would phase and he'd fire metallic sperm into the dashboard

oh did I mention they were boning in a Hummer?

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:44 (eleven years ago) link

well i mean obviously

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

wait why is his SPERM metallic?

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

wait why am i asking this?

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

Well now I'm getting an alternate lyric for a Catherine Wheel song and no thank you.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

I liked First Class, although it had some boring "hey we're mutants all learning how to be young hip mutants together" moments and needed more pervo Xavier

mh, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

didn't they establish at some point that his entire body shifts to organic metal, like down to the cellular level? which would obv include his sperm

think of them as little BBs of life

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

maybe if we make it to 900 x-men movies somebody can do the grant morrison run

X-Men: Steerage

乒乓, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

how are they going to film the scene where Xavier strangles Cassandra in utero and will that play under the opening credits?

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:52 (eleven years ago) link

computer-generated, although I demand they graft mcavoy's face on

haha same

turds (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 22:59 (eleven years ago) link

my hope for first class was that it would be like Blow Up with mutants but they really downplayed the 60s stuff, i guess for fear of making an austin powers movie

turds (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:01 (eleven years ago) link

lol ya would have been awesome if the super-antics were just a backdrop to '60s stuff

Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:40 (eleven years ago) link

Hope Longshot and Mojo get involved.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:55 (eleven years ago) link

And Psylocke and Kwannon. And Joseph. Basically, any character with a hyperconvoluted and nonsensical backstory and whose relevance to the broader universe is highly questionable.

Come Into My Layer (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 00:23 (eleven years ago) link

but they really downplayed the 60s stuff, i guess for fear of making an austin powers movie

i dunno man, it was pretty groovy

Number None, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 00:25 (eleven years ago) link

there's something kind of pathetic about Singer returning to this franchise though. Seems washed up at this point

Number None, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 00:26 (eleven years ago) link

otm

mh, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 00:45 (eleven years ago) link

I don't know that he was ever washed down, really, so to speak. X2 might be his best movie (guess which other obvious contender I don't think much of). He was probably dumb to leave the franchise in the first place, and going back to it is probably the best thing he could do for himself.

Come Into My Layer (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 01:11 (eleven years ago) link

Oh i think he's a terrible director (don't even rate X2 that highly) but this seems like a backwards step for everyone concerned. Compared to the excitement surrounding the other Marvel universe, this is all a bit old hat

Number None, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 01:17 (eleven years ago) link

x-men 2 ('x2'? sheesh) is an awful movie

attempt to look intentionally nerdy, awkward or (thomp), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 01:33 (eleven years ago) link

sorry for calling movie by its name please forgive so sorry

Come Into My Layer (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 01:39 (eleven years ago) link

Saw it a few months ago for the first time since theaters and X2 has aged very, very poorly. If Singer wasn't in on the ground floor with this series, I'm sure he'd be looked at in the same way as any other Len Wiseman/John Moore/etc. studio hack

it just might not jive with you (fadanuf4erybody), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:07 (eleven years ago) link

You guys are gross

Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:12 (eleven years ago) link

bruh i just want a movie with rad sentinels and i do not trust Singer to give me that

it just might not jive with you (fadanuf4erybody), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:13 (eleven years ago) link

Sorry Raymund Cummings

turds (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

That said this movie could be awesome

Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:15 (eleven years ago) link

There's some really good stuff in the second X-Men movie, and I imagine without it and its success we wouldn't have gotten the more successful subsequent Marvel reboots. Then again, you could also say that without the silly failures of Ang Lee's "Hulk" and Singer's "Stuporman" we might not have gotten the more successful reboots, either.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:16 (eleven years ago) link

Man, can't believe Singer is almost 50.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:17 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think Singer gets the same thing out of comics that I do

mh, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:37 (eleven years ago) link

x2 sucked

Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:08 (eleven years ago) link

X1 and X2 were close in quality

mh, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:12 (eleven years ago) link

'90s X-Men cartoon is the only adaptation you need.

Come Into My Layer (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:15 (eleven years ago) link

I think Ang Lee's Hulk is better than its rep. I'd rather see more comics adaptations by him than anything by Singer.

WilliamC, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:22 (eleven years ago) link

No.

Come Into My Layer (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:43 (eleven years ago) link

X1-3 have always felt about the same, quality-wise, to me. I actually like First Class the least.

Simon H., Wednesday, 28 November 2012 07:32 (eleven years ago) link

i havent seen X2 since it came out but i thought it was pretty sick back then.

turds (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 13:08 (eleven years ago) link

Compared to the excitement surrounding the other Marvel universe, this is all a bit old hat

Yeah, this is otm. The Marvel Studios movies have done a great job of putting a lot of the fun stuff from the comics on-screen and creating a sense of a shared universe. The X-Men movies, on the other hand, have seemed increasingly like box-ticking exercises to ensure the movie rights didn't revert back to Marvel.

I did enjoy First Class, mainly for Fassbender and McAvoy's performances, but the idea of a flashback movie must surely have come because they had painted themselves into a stupid corner at the end of X3 and couldn't think of an alternative. I have similar reservations about the thinking behind bringing back McKellen and Stewart.

possibly Claremont's worst writing trait

Οὖτις, Friday, 1 April 2016 17:09 (eight years ago) link

altho for some reason I like it when Dave Sim did it

Οὖτις, Friday, 1 April 2016 17:10 (eight years ago) link

My Batroc-ization of Gambit's dialogue is a reminder that Claremont's accents could be seen as relatively restrained in comparison to those employed elsewhere in the Marvel universe.

Well, I guess they're also making an X-Force movie in the wake of Deadpool's massive success? I assume the X-Force and New Mutants films are separate things, anyway.

I am purposely avoiding searching out more info on this X-Force movie so as to keep alive the hope that this is the Milligan version.

Jenny Ondioleeene (Leee), Friday, 1 April 2016 17:19 (eight years ago) link

I will do all that I can to avoid dashing your hopes on the proverbial rocks, tovarisch.

Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane has been debunked by Fox. Should've known it was 2 good 2B true.

Hmm...not sure. We know that they're wee, and occasionally puir, and that their plight sometimes induces an 'och!' in passersby. Beyond that, it's anybody's guess, ye great bloody spaleen.

$250, same as downtown

Claremont would never, you take that back.

My Whole Existence Is Flan (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 April 2016 18:44 (eight years ago) link

Does "bairn" come from Scandinavian languages? The Swedish word for "kid" is "barn".

Tuomas, Friday, 8 April 2016 06:37 (eight years ago) link

It does indeed.

new meaning to "couldn't hit the broad side of a barn"
