thinking about ASAP Rocky takes time that could be better spent thinking about literally any other rapper

for example: what are former Rap-a-Lot group A-G-2-A-Ke up to? what ever happened to Jarobi?

With tensions boiling through the media and from what we may not know, tonight could have been the culmination of their rising tensions.

this is an opening sentence!

Since April 2010 he’d been running a Tumblr — the title is unprintable —

i like how NYT's style guide is all "yeah, we're not doing that dollar sign shit"

flopson, Monday, 28 January 2013 03:02 (eleven years ago) link

personally i'm not buying the idea that yams created RNT in some mastermind plan to blow asap rocky up

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:04 (eleven years ago) link

Agree. But I bet he saw the opportunities pretty early as it got going.

queef ka queef (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:05 (eleven years ago) link

yeah.

i wonder if rocky or anyone else in the asap camp read that article and objected to how much credit caramanica gave yams for helping to create rocky

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:07 (eleven years ago) link

-“Fuckin’ Problems” came from Drake’s camp more or less complete.

interesting

flopson, Monday, 28 January 2013 03:08 (eleven years ago) link

Sounded like a Drake song with a Rocky verse thrown in.

*sounds

queef ka queef (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:09 (eleven years ago) link

i don't see why it's implausible. a LOT of dudes have tried to start rap blogs in the past few years in part to build buzz for their own career or someone in their crew, the other ones just weren't so successful.

some dude, Monday, 28 January 2013 03:09 (eleven years ago) link

oh it's certainly plausible

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:11 (eleven years ago) link

-“Fuckin’ Problems” came from Drake’s camp more or less complete.

well yeah that's not surprising at all

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:11 (eleven years ago) link

it really is kind of diabolical how Drake has been running a lead single factory for new dudes trying to get a release date

some dude, Monday, 28 January 2013 03:12 (eleven years ago) link

I wish he hadn't ruined "fo real" but i think that could be a big single for Future anyway

rap steve gadd (D-40), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:17 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i mean there are songs like "Amen" where he doesn't really get in the way or drive the appeal of the whole thing

some dude, Monday, 28 January 2013 03:19 (eleven years ago) link

two years pass...

new track "LSD" is great imo + video is great too

is it just me or does the video have serious "enter the void" vibes?

"rocky has literally nothing to say about anything, not even his own music."

its a$ap rocky. he is not exactly known for his content.

this song kinda shades whoever upthread was saying kendrick's prob got a$ap worried, i'm not a huge fan of his necessarily (i like stuff like "suddenly" a lot) but this is definitely a next level iteration of his aesthetic. pretty beautiful actually, gonna go add to my 2015 songs list rn

video's really nice too (and bonus cred in my book as more fuel to the fire that is asian pop culture's takeover in the next year or two, shit is everywhere these days get hype)

album came out a week early & is streamable. tracklist looks both intriguing and overstuffed as hell

I've loved most of the new songs tho, especially everyday and LSD

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 11:52 (eight years ago) link

a few listens, a few thoughts...

pleasantly surprised to hear this more psychedelic sound suiting him well, but aside from a few highlights it feels unfocused. not helped by all the bloat... cutting the entire middle third of the record (really, up until wayne's verse) would do a lot of good by itself. also some sequencing weirdness, I'm not sure if the record needed both "LSD" and "excuse me" but it definitely didn't need them side by side.

speaking of, I really was not expecting wayne to save "M'$." might be the best verse on the whole album...following his show-stealer on tyler's new one, no less. digging how he really shows up on these younger rappers' records, hoping it continues, (elsewhere, I wonder what kanye wanted in return for...that...)
