Note for non-UK ilxors: Waitrose doesn't have staff, but rather partners, who part-own the business and receive (often hefty) bonuses each year based on a share of the profits. Sainsbury's biggest shareholder is the Qatari royal family.

Waitrose staff are genuinely helpful. Once, after buying some prosecco to take to Carnival, I couldn't find plastic cups so one of the cashiers sloped off to their break room, returned with a dozen plastic cups from their water dispenser and just gave them to me with a 'have fun, wish I was going'.
