Anyone notice, er, Jon Snow say "wetback" to a Mexican interviewee? Was a genuine double-take moment. Yeep.

news outlets reporting Rubio is already making plans to go to Iowa. Latino problem = solved

That wetback dude defends his usage as if the word were once, ever acceptable.

I stopped going to see every candidate that dropped by my workplace during primary season after I saw Huckabee. Total waste of my time.

d-_-b (mh), Friday, 9 November 2012 14:44 (eleven years ago) link

btw Huckabee tried the "I get your down-homey farming ways" crap when he was here, failing to notice that he was speaking at a large company that is like 1/3 scientists

Romney showed up in Iowa just about four years ago at this time, right? He didn't hang around long because lol Mormonism doesn't play there, but if Rubio even steps off a plane in Des Moines it's pretty clear what's happening.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 November 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

Romney's stopped tweeting. Too bad...

I can't wait to see my friends who were on the Obama tech team in person, partially to give one of them shit because when he got a hug from the president the other day, he was apparently so tongue-tied all he could do was kind of stammer "uh, you are excellent"

From the "this election was lost to the leeches" files: I saw someone driving a (really expensive) car around downtown MPLS last night with the fake Ben Franklin quote -- "When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic" -- written all across his rear windshield.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:04 (eleven years ago) link

all the stores were closed! the bars were closing in an hour! they maybe could have run up some 4-figure bar tabs but aside from that...

but the great thing is that allegedly most of them found out when they tried to use their cards to pay for the dejected cab rides they took back home/to their hotels

its from friday night lights

lag∞n, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:07 (eleven years ago) link

I think it originated with the football team Friday Night Lights was based on? Or maybe it was just a creation of the film/show.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:08 (eleven years ago) link

ahh, that is the one that the show creator wanted to sue Romney over

d-_-b (mh), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:08 (eleven years ago) link

it's super hilarious to me how 80% of the time when a Republican campaign picks some inspirational nugget from contemporary entertainment to use as a slogan or a rallying song, someone involved in the creation and/or presentation of that nugget pops up and says "don't use my shit, you hateful douche"

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:10 (eleven years ago) link

the other 20% of the time it's kid rock

iatee, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:11 (eleven years ago) link

Romney's chances arguably better if he's used Kid Rock's "Born Free". (I still like that song, shut up.)

Ha, you should've lived under his governorship for 11 years.

"Are these idiots getting dumber or just louder?"

"Dumber, sir."

C-3PO Sharkey (Phil D.), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:20 (eleven years ago) link

apparently all the republicans are coming to Iowa under the guise of celebrating our governor's birthday

I don't think Branstad is as bad as Huckabee, but good god, I cannot believe we have this turd for governor again. He was in the office for '83-'99 (!) and, due to some horrible bungling on the part of the state democrats, he decided to bounce back into the office.

d-_-b (mh), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:20 (eleven years ago) link

I'd look at a portion of the -3 million Bam votes for left-wing protest.

I'm sure you would.

Meet me halfway? None of that drop is due to some progressives/starry-eyed youth discovering O is JAFP?

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:22 (eleven years ago) link

youth vote went up

iatee, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

I'm sure some of it is, but most of it is because only 4 or five states turned out to be integral to his win, and everybody knew it, and the urgency to vote if you lived in, say, New York or Arizona, was somewhat diminished vs. 2008 when nobody really knew what the map would look like.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

wait are you saying O is a Japanese Financial Planner???????

beef richards (Mr. Que), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link

also the states w/ the highest drop in voting were NY/NJ/CT ie safe states where lots of people were/are still fucked cause of the hurricane

iatee, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, i'd say far left resistance to obama and dem party was pretty marginalized this election

Mordy, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

rrrrrrrrrreally i wonder by whom

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:29 (eleven years ago) link

hey guys I know the "who had it worse, Clinton or Obama?" conversation is tedious and untenable etc but I feel compelled to point out that the thing about no one saying shit about Obama's kids wasn't actually true, as pointed out by a hideous link on that Gawker story Phil just posted

that's all, carry on with talking to Morbs

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:30 (eleven years ago) link

i only think its tedious when people don't get that saying Obama isn't a citizen in any way compares to Whitewater

difficult listening hour, Friday, 9 November 2012 15:33 (eleven years ago) link

Iowa was supposed to be a battleground state, more people turned out to vote than in 2008, and Obama ended up winning 52%/46%

6% difference seems kind of high for a supposed close contest?

i only think its tedious when people don't get that saying Obama isn't a citizen in any way compares to Whitewater

whoops, this is p. unclear.

i mean i only think it's tedious when people don't get how serious the hatred is toward Obama, how it's rooted in racism, and comparing that to the really dumb shit that was thrown at Clinton is silly.

beef richards (Mr. Que), Friday, 9 November 2012 15:36 (eleven years ago) link
