That's Holly but easy mistake to make

I've seen four names bandied about, one of whom is openly gay, one is very guarded about his sexuality, two are not openly gay at all. The main name I've seen falls into the last category.

Albert Crampus (NickB), Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:24 (eleven years ago) link

They should do a This Morning / Surprise Surprise crossover.

Huey Lewisies & The Newsie-Wewsies (snoball), Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:25 (eleven years ago) link

thatcher wasn't gay

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:26 (eleven years ago) link

Phil S does not mention anyone in that clip.

Mark G, Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:27 (eleven years ago) link

Read in the Guardian yesterday that Savile was apparently interviewed as a possible suspect in the Yorkshire Ripper investigation after an anonymous tip-off.

Albert Crampus (NickB), Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:28 (eleven years ago) link

That Paul Gambaccini really had it in for him

The telegraph has it he 'reveals' in passing the list to DC, but it's not possible to read it, certainly not on youtube and I doubt even on freeze-frame on a HD tele.

Unless you are Jim Phelps, of course.

Mark G, Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:30 (eleven years ago) link

xp ah yeah sorry Holly. gotcha.

I can't believe this, but I'm actually agreeing with Cameron about something...

"There is a danger, if we're not careful, that this could turn into a sort of witch-hunt, particularly against people who are gay and I'm worried about the sort of thing you are doing right now - giving me a list of names that you've taken off the internet."

Who watches This Morning anyway? It never recovered after Richard and Judy stopped presenting it.

Huey Lewisies & The Newsie-Wewsies (snoball), Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:39 (eleven years ago) link

yeah cameron otm. amazingly.

jed_, Thursday, 8 November 2012 13:03 (eleven years ago) link

While there may be some truth in what he said, it does seem a bit disingenuous and maybe a bit of a smokescreen especially with regard to the main name that I've seen journalists and other seemingly in-the-know types tweet about.

Albert Crampus (NickB), Thursday, 8 November 2012 13:12 (eleven years ago) link

That Paul Gambaccini really had it in for him

At a Status Quo press conference Gambo hosted on the same day he broke silence on the whole Saville thing, he called on a white-haired rock journalist I know with the words "Yes, you, the one who looks like Jimmy Saville".

Manchild in Beantown (stevie), Thursday, 8 November 2012 14:08 (eleven years ago) link

It was a strange version of "All the young dudes" for sure...

"All the young guys and gals"

horrible story from creepy ex-radio 2 dj ed 'stewpot' stewart's autobiography but the pay-off is 10/10:

‘I walked up and down the Reeperbahn [Hamburg’s red-light district], ogling the girls in the windows, until I saw a blonde I really liked the look of.

‘With my bundle of marks in a rather sweaty palm, I went through the door and into the boudoir of Tamara, hoping that we weren’t going to be performing in the window as well.

‘It was all over in minutes — she hardly drew breath. “Tamara never comes,” I thought idly as I was ushered out of the door, off to the airport and home to England.’

NI, Friday, 9 November 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

rieperbahn was the least sexy place i've ever been.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Friday, 9 November 2012 17:15 (eleven years ago) link

the sex industry in general is disgusting, don't get how anyone could get off on it.

Ryan's taint is definitely unavoidable. (stevie), Friday, 9 November 2012 17:27 (eleven years ago) link

I'm annoyed with myself for giggling at that punchline.

Mark G, Friday, 9 November 2012 22:58 (eleven years ago) link

Next DG is going to put up a huge fucking firewall between the corp and news. They'll install an editor-in-chief, for a start.

stet, Sunday, 11 November 2012 01:31 (eleven years ago) link

Isn't the story though that they been trying to shift Boaden for some time now? They wanted to shift her to Head of Audio but she refused. Her expectations may not be met, here.

stet, Monday, 12 November 2012 13:29 (eleven years ago) link

Rippon's looking prudent compared to the temporary Newsnight editor...

ella fingerblast hurls forever (suzy), Monday, 12 November 2012 13:35 (eleven years ago) link

From Ch4's Alex Thompson:
"George Entwhistle's pay-off amounts to about £260 for every working day of his 23y at BBC"

That cushions the sword falling a wee bit.

squozen turnip (onimo), Monday, 12 November 2012 15:48 (eleven years ago) link

More like £70 a day if you exclude his pension pot.

stet, Monday, 12 November 2012 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

This might sound stupid, but does anyone else feel that the BBC are in a 'can't win' kind of situation as regards everything going on?

Hard Normal Showaddywaddy (Mr Andy M), Monday, 12 November 2012 18:29 (eleven years ago) link

What should they be 'winning' in this situation?
