and now you all have this discussion about "not talking shit on 77" and how the "mods" want to prevent that...

and NOW i cannot see 77 any more, and have been kicked off it (?). probably because max or whoever wanted me kicked off it so whatever was being said about me, could continue

so okay. i'm not just trying to point out the massive contradictions here... its okay, i should obviously deal with the fact that i'm apparently one of the most worthless ilx posters since i used to write about astrology (never mind roxy and her tarot cards!). and tom IS right w/r/t how i've never really been that funny online either, and i've spent too much of my time here arguing arcane subjects that go over people's heads (i'll miss you Kenan). i did make some interesting friends in the process though

i really shouldn't be on ilx after wasting 8 years of my life, on and off, here in the first place - i have other things going on -and i only got here because i followed Al!y K from alt.music, who i used to write to way back in 1998! there's so much more i "should" deal with now, and i shouldn't have returned after grad school out of curiosity anyway (it was because i finished my film, and had time to kill). also because i still regularly talk to c0ry, and he isn't here now anyway (i missed his outing as well)

but get real. enough with trying to pretend that you endlessly clever assholes aren't always talking shit about someone else here. secret borads or not.

john this is my point, and it's larger than what happened to vic: 77, to vic (to use this situation as an example), is not a private board. he can see it, therefore it's the equivalent to all the sub-boards, and on lots of the sub-boards, including 1p3, ITR (playground of such moral stalwarts as john justen and dan perry) and the noize board, ppl talk about other ppl on the board in a meta way that some might call 'shit talk'. so for 77 - and it's core posters, me included - to be taking this amount of shit from ppl, esp elder posters, is just wrong imo.

and it's my personal opinion, as someone who was ragged on unmercifully when i started posting on ilx, that it's best to respond and weather the storm than to quit. but, that's just my opinion. (not that im condoning tom's pretty awful post)

which I totally acknowledge. I am not saying ppl were in there bein' dicks all the time. I am a little - OK, being me, a lot - dismayed that when an attack that off-the-charts was launched, the board-culture response was "well, consider the source" instead of "fucking whoa: that is unacceptable." Ragged on is one thing - the quoted bit is beyond the pale imo. I know what it's like to get ragged on, I'm cool with it & invite it plenty of the time, but dragging people's sexuality & race into the insults is the sort of thing I would hope somebody would go "fuckin' wait a minute" about.
