A surprise just for you!

My pupster went through about 5 of my pillows and 3 of his dog beds, but he finally stopped evicerating the cushioning hereabouts around his first birthday. k9ballistics makes some pretty chew resistant dog beds, if that's what we're seeing (they discontinued a indoor/outdoor cot that I got).

Love the way the puppy's sitting, he's all whatever. "Look. It just exploded. I don't even know what you're talking about dude. Chill."

I spend so much time just worrying about whether I'm ready to get a puppy that I should just get one so I can stop deliberating about it.

I mean I'm pretty determined to get one, this spring/summer probably. I totally have all the resources - material and immaterial - to do so, but at the same time it's like: responsibility!

Every time I see a picture like the one above with the pillows all gored, or see people asking for donations to cover their $10,000 dog surgery, it's like "I can't handle this shit!"

At the same time, it's not like I haven't just started a phd where I'll be on my own schedule and in the same place for the next 6-8 years. And it's not like I haven't just moved into an apartment with a backyard and an unused room connected to mine, and which is 2 minutes from a dog park.

The more serious I get, the more I get cold feet.

She must have the strangest bark.

i'll go weeks without hearing it, but the best way to describe it is imagine a bark that all the other dogs would make fun of a dog for having because its such a shitty bark.

This is Kenny, a 15-year-old lurcher who is mostly whippet. He stays with me when one of my friends has a job out of town. His bark mutates into weird dog singing, particularly if there are other dogs on TV.

mine just turned 11 last month.

Seriously. When I inform people that Ken is 15, they look around anxiously like we're just sitting here, waiting for the dog ambulance because he shakes like most sighthounds do, takes a daily pill for dog arthritis - but is in really good shape. He could be nearer 16, because his age was estimated at 12-18 months when he was adopted as a rescue in late '98.

He is unusually amenable to being photographed, and has the most gorgeous, long paws:

Pearl at about 3.5 months. She's now abt 13 kgs!! And she's a total sweetheart (as long as we don't have any shoes lying around anywhere because they go str8 down to the backyard for chewing, also she wants to kill all birds always)
