ethan and ned have beef? wtf i am really clueless i guess

crackers is biters (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Ethan doesn't have a Ned grudge REALLY, I don't think.

roxymuzak, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:26 (fifteen years ago) link

terrible album rox but i was pretty happy with the title

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:27 (fifteen years ago) link

his kinda but not really beef involves a "secret" mailing list where people would talk shit about ilxors!

velko, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago) link

& as far as i know no one here holds a grudge against ned in anything close to a meaningful way. ned is the man.

There's always an exception...

Ned, sticking up for a canonical artist? Seems unlikely. Never seen the guy post to ONE fucking jazz thread before. He basically likes to shit all over threads where people are excited about the work of geniuses. That's what anglophilia does to you, I guess. But maybe I was wrong, who knows. If he's sticking up for Trane, too little, too late from the douche. Cried wolf too many times.
-- Stormy Davis (electrifyingmoj...), August 18th, 2005.

well, he's just sort of an dork who fronts all "nice guy" all the time, but kind of just a moron. check out the original Jeff Buckley thread, that one is high-larious. just a guy who got beat up in high school for his shitty anglophilia -- richly deserved -- and now he takes it out on the rest of us by bum-rushing threads with his inanities all day long; to be ignored.
-- Stormy Davis (electrifyingmoj...), February 5th, 2006.

oh I just think anglophilia in general is just endlessly laughable. it's just so fucking foreign to me. sure, use country-of-origin as aesthetic-criteria! no skin off my nose. if you have no idea how to parse out what players do with their instruments you tend to fall into the "wash over you" scheme of things. it's cool. give me 100 Led Zeppelin JOnes/Bonham tracks before I pick up one ridiculous Bauhaus piece of nonsense; but that's just me. long day on the ol internet, eh Ragget? one hell of a life you have. I did crack up a few minutes ago when I saw Ragget show up on a fuckin WORLD MUSIC thread for crissakes. Hahah Ragget "holding forth" on world music. hilarious. back to the Cure COMPANT CISC recordings thrad w. u raget
-- Stormy Davis (electrifyingmoj...), May 8th, 2005.

hehehehe, well, I actually have a ton of respect for Dan. He's a cool guy, I think. I have respect for Dan BECAUSE I know that he knows where he's coming from. He's a smart guy. Whereas Ned is just an anglophile dweeb who uses country-of-origin as his primary aesthetic criteria; beyond that, he's lost at sea.... But it's fun riling up the hivemind.

Was Stormy Davis the guy who posted as "Ned Prissy Anglophile Faggot" (or something like that) at one point?

The list was a spinoff from a.m.a. when a bunch of us were tired of the place. ILM got started about nine months after that IIRC.

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:37 (fifteen years ago) link

man my first appearance on ilx was me embarrassingly arguing w/ ned & stormy's posts there are funny but its not like u can really hate ned for that shit, doesnt make any sense imo -- ethans reasoning is pretty lol but more defensible bcuz its provides entertainment to imagine him being hurt that ned didnt invite him to his mailing list

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:57 (fifteen years ago) link

at any rate its all irrelevant since ned has been able to read 77 for ages

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:58 (fifteen years ago) link

That mailing list was more like a filesharing thing iirc. At least now there's bittorrent.

john if ur not on 77 the only 77 threds u see are the ones that have been deemed 'unpositive' - there are literally hundreds of threads on 77 about such positive things as:

mixtape art
the word 'actually'
my brother's high school senior portrait

i think its funny that the two mods most in favor of keeping 77 alive are the two that you dumb motherfuckers levy the most shit against. good job picking your battles.

what the fuck is your point here? tom and i have both tried to keep 77 workable, and you keep being a little bitch about it. wtf is wrong with you?

congratulations dudes, your borad is public. i know that i have been a big meanie and made your magic secret playhouse available to everyone, but apparently you cant parse the concept of not talking shit behind the backs of others, so hey lol joeks bruv right?

CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Saturday, 31 January 2009 08:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i am glad to delete whatever threads are personal and based on the idea that 77 was secret, and to googleproof whatever.

CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Saturday, 31 January 2009 08:58 (fifteen years ago) link

It seems like a weird rule that people who aren't on 77 can't be discussed on 77, since as far as I know no one except the mods even knows who's on 77 and who's not. At this point, wouldn't it make more sense to make 77 public once and for all, and let people discuss whoever they want to over there instead of having these same arguments over and over.

Tuomas, Saturday, 31 January 2009 09:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Tuomas, Saturday, 31 January 2009 09:02 (fifteen years ago) link

oh yeah btw when the inevitable "we need a secret board" posts start up on mod request or i must protest plz to make it clear why you need a secret board outside of wanting to be A)special and upper echelon ILX B)able to talk shit about other posters without giving them the chance to talk shit about you

CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Saturday, 31 January 2009 09:17 (fifteen years ago) link

good job tho dudes A+++++ keepin it positive

CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Saturday, 31 January 2009 09:29 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i dont think this shit is cool at all

and no one gives a shit about 'upper echelon,' anyone can join!! ANYONE. cant they just email u if they're embarrassed about posting a request? I dont get what the problem is

this is pretty fucked up though. im sure theres shit on there i posted that i dont want googled also

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 10:08 (fifteen years ago) link

i mean who the fuck was talking shit?? what are u even mad about john??

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 10:09 (fifteen years ago) link

don't think this is about john doing something for the good of ilx - he knows as well as anyone that there isn't any vicious shit talked by anyone on 77 - i think it's more about him winning

Yeah, the assumption all along has been that 77 would be inaccessable to the general public (I don't just mean general ILX, I don't care about them being able to read 77) and as such there are a bazillion things there that people have posted under the assumption that not just anyone can read them. The moderators knew this and on multiple occassions assured that 77 would remain inaccessible to the the general public. I'm not usually into board lawyering, but this was truly uncalled for and could have irl consequences for people who expected that a private board would remain private.

If a few posters are breaking the rules, you have plenty of tools at your disposal that don't potentially harm many other posters who have done nothing wrong.

If mods don't want a secret board to exist anymore, I think the most sensible solution would be to...

1) keep the whole 77 board secret but completely lock it, so everything remains read-only, no new threads or posts can be made, and only people who were 77 members can find old threads via search, and

2) start a new 77 board that's open to everyone.
