Seriously, the we already fell all the way down the slippery slope. When even passive aggressive shit, back-handed compliments and obscure references are getting people banned something's wrong. I know it's probably gauche to talk about it like that and it's just an internet message board but wtf it sucks to feel so stifled

Dan I., Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:03 (fifteen years ago) link

just as an fyi, no one from the keepin it positive movement has ever banned anyone except for king boy pato

max, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:04 (fifteen years ago) link

it's a movement? I thought i was a universal mod dictate

Dan I., Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

i swear i always feel like there's this extra level of personal stuff/grudges etc going on on ILX that i don't really understand half of

crackers is biters (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

getting shit talked can be positive, just look at BIG HOOS aka the steendriver

jordy (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:06 (fifteen years ago) link

abstract floating aggression... catch it!

ice cr?m, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Rollin' turds in glitter, the steendriving way.

roxymuzak, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:09 (fifteen years ago) link

dan i. there is the movement "keepin it positive" which is all about being positive

there is the universal mod dictate "dont be a dick" which youll notice isnt positive at all because it contains an admonishment and a dirty word

ILX was built on dicks!

Dan I., Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:10 (fifteen years ago) link

keepin it positive = if u wanna be a dick, hey, thats cool, do ur own thing

dont be a dick = if u wanna be a dick, u will be banned

^agree with this, dunno if that means that ilx needs to retain dickness in the 09, but can see arguments for and against. I'm a dick agnostic.

tombot = having fun, occasionally bitchy, zingy, enjoys meta, has admin privs

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:12 (fifteen years ago) link

does tom have fun here?

velko, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:13 (fifteen years ago) link

obviously

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:15 (fifteen years ago) link

not saying that im speaking for mods in general here obv, but i think ive made it pretty clear on this thread that the only thing i care about is meta stuff about non 77 people on 77. people can bruise each other up all they want as far as i care, just dont be a jerk and do it where yer target cant see it.

TBH the "no meta stuff on 77" is basically because that was what made a bunch of people on ILX super freaked out about a secret board full of people trash talking, i dont think its too much to ask that people leave boardwide meta shit alone on one particular board.

CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:15 (fifteen years ago) link

that makes sense

crackers is biters (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:17 (fifteen years ago) link

also plz to remember that i was the dude on the secret boards thread repeatedly saying that 77 was getting a terrible spin and that it was mostly people fucking around and being goofy. so labeling me for some reason as 77 enemy list just because im a mod doesnt make a lot of sense. and i was the one who moved this thread back to 77 last time around. so chill dudes, c'mon.

CLAPSOCK (John Justen), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

fair enough but u still triflin'

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:19 (fifteen years ago) link

but as far as i could tell the point here was that the rapey mo shit talking was played & not even correct in the first place

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:21 (fifteen years ago) link

& as far as i know no one here holds a grudge against ned in anything close to a meaningful way. ned is the man.

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Ok, I love that shirt!

roxymuzak, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:22 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah only ethan has a ned grudge over some olden-times ILX shit no one else cares about

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:23 (fifteen years ago) link

roxy that shirt is for acclaimed minnesota hip hop artist Atmosphere btw

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:23 (fifteen years ago) link

ethan and ned have beef? wtf i am really clueless i guess

crackers is biters (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Ethan doesn't have a Ned grudge REALLY, I don't think.

roxymuzak, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:26 (fifteen years ago) link

terrible album rox but i was pretty happy with the title

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:27 (fifteen years ago) link

his kinda but not really beef involves a "secret" mailing list where people would talk shit about ilxors!

velko, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago) link

& as far as i know no one here holds a grudge against ned in anything close to a meaningful way. ned is the man.

There's always an exception...

Ned, sticking up for a canonical artist? Seems unlikely. Never seen the guy post to ONE fucking jazz thread before. He basically likes to shit all over threads where people are excited about the work of geniuses. That's what anglophilia does to you, I guess. But maybe I was wrong, who knows. If he's sticking up for Trane, too little, too late from the douche. Cried wolf too many times.
-- Stormy Davis (electrifyingmoj...), August 18th, 2005.

well, he's just sort of an dork who fronts all "nice guy" all the time, but kind of just a moron. check out the original Jeff Buckley thread, that one is high-larious. just a guy who got beat up in high school for his shitty anglophilia -- richly deserved -- and now he takes it out on the rest of us by bum-rushing threads with his inanities all day long; to be ignored.
-- Stormy Davis (electrifyingmoj...), February 5th, 2006.

oh I just think anglophilia in general is just endlessly laughable. it's just so fucking foreign to me. sure, use country-of-origin as aesthetic-criteria! no skin off my nose. if you have no idea how to parse out what players do with their instruments you tend to fall into the "wash over you" scheme of things. it's cool. give me 100 Led Zeppelin JOnes/Bonham tracks before I pick up one ridiculous Bauhaus piece of nonsense; but that's just me. long day on the ol internet, eh Ragget? one hell of a life you have. I did crack up a few minutes ago when I saw Ragget show up on a fuckin WORLD MUSIC thread for crissakes. Hahah Ragget "holding forth" on world music. hilarious. back to the Cure COMPANT CISC recordings thrad w. u raget
-- Stormy Davis (electrifyingmoj...), May 8th, 2005.

hehehehe, well, I actually have a ton of respect for Dan. He's a cool guy, I think. I have respect for Dan BECAUSE I know that he knows where he's coming from. He's a smart guy. Whereas Ned is just an anglophile dweeb who uses country-of-origin as his primary aesthetic criteria; beyond that, he's lost at sea.... But it's fun riling up the hivemind.

Was Stormy Davis the guy who posted as "Ned Prissy Anglophile Faggot" (or something like that) at one point?

The list was a spinoff from a.m.a. when a bunch of us were tired of the place. ILM got started about nine months after that IIRC.

stormy davis i think is still somewhere drinking himself into oblivion over the white sox world series victory

now would be a perfect time to use the fake Momus account i registered for that never got approved

gr8080, Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:37 (fifteen years ago) link

man my first appearance on ilx was me embarrassingly arguing w/ ned & stormy's posts there are funny but its not like u can really hate ned for that shit, doesnt make any sense imo -- ethans reasoning is pretty lol but more defensible bcuz its provides entertainment to imagine him being hurt that ned didnt invite him to his mailing list

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:57 (fifteen years ago) link

at any rate its all irrelevant since ned has been able to read 77 for ages

twitty milk (deej), Saturday, 31 January 2009 00:58 (fifteen years ago) link

That mailing list was more like a filesharing thing iirc. At least now there's bittorrent.

john if ur not on 77 the only 77 threds u see are the ones that have been deemed 'unpositive' - there are literally hundreds of threads on 77 about such positive things as:

mixtape art
the word 'actually'
my brother's high school senior portrait
