band practice rundown

-practice
-wait for christian marching band drummer to leave (was a badass drummer fyi)
-drink soco and smoke blinding amounts of weed
-listen to in the court of the crimson king at eyebleeding volumes on the pa
-go to perkins and drink pots of coffee, eat cajun fries, and smoke until somebody threw up somewhere
-repeat twice a week

our other big focus was doing blastbeat speed covers of beatles songs. because our singer was a hippie and i wanted to fucking rock

-unmangle cords
-figure out what ridiculous configuration of equipment is workable today
-play a few songs
-watch that thing you do! and eat chips

we sounded exactly like discount

-smoke weed
-turn off the lights
-pretend we knew how to play musical instruments

our lead singer was a 14 year old girl with a pink bc rich that closed out the night getting caught giving her 19 year old boyfriend a handy under the gym bleachers. rock and roll!

i still have the bass i had back then and it is still my main bass despite being the totally abhorrent fender color "lipstick red"

if there was a god, the internet would have a video of me grumpily covering "you really got me" at a talent show with that bass, a blue wool gold nautical buttoned trenchcoat and a jesus jones hat with a flipped brim as was the style of the day, while our stand in lead singer rocked out into a wireless mic that he had forgotten to turn on.

added bonus: after that shitshow, i proceeded to get second place for a quartet with DJP that sang "Silhouettes" and take first place for doing a duet on "Arms Of Orion", a fine song from the much beloved Prince album "The Batman Soundtrack"

I was in marching band for 5 years and played countless equally bad ideas during halftime shows, it's almost like being invulnerable to humiliation is my superpower now.

There was the year our show was all songs from Aladdin the movie, for instance.

celebrated by buying a bunch of pizza hut and then smoking a bunch of weed and shotgunning black labels with my friend p3rry while listening to youth of today until he dropped a roach into his lap and careened into a ditch and we had to call his dad.

An earlier year there was the marching band arrangement of "Late in the Evening."

thx to grade school/middle school orchestra, i am fairly sure that the song i have played the most times in my life is the theme to chariots of fire

If it weren't for the 10 years of classical piano, I would say my most repeated number was Johnny B Goode--thanking u, pep band.

school trips seemed to be my steez tho, that's how I met my bf in my final year of hs. also a year younger than me. also similarly complexioned to the other crush, and was kind of good friends with him except I didn't find that out til later. lol. so we got all bff-y and I crushed super hard, and THEN, I found out when we got back from the trip that he was kind of seeing a friend of mine. I had no idea about that at all until we all got drunk at a party, and ended up sitting in her driveway, her, him, and me basically roundtabling who he should go out with. O_o

we were together for maybe 6 months but then I got accepted to uni and was moving out of home and 2 hours away, and he wanted to call it quits so I could sow my wild oats. which never got sown except when I was drunk so it was kind of a pointless exercise.

he was cool tho. probly the first guy i ever felt like i loved? he told me in a teary drunk phone conversation the night before I moved to the us permanently that I was the only girl he had ever loved. which is maybe cliche to say out loud but felt v true at the time. we stayed friends, and still keep in touch in a very vague happy birthday once a year way. oddly enough he ended up marrying a girl with the same name as me
