well, none are on the level of "drop it like it's hot" or "hot in herre" or whatever. a quick google shows "nothin'" hit 10 on the hot 100 charts, tbh i always assumed it was more on a top 30 urban charts kinda level, same with pretty much anything by the clipse. looks like everyone else is posting up way more obscure tunes though, which is great for me - i haven't ever even heard a lot of these!

Neptunes are an unuusal case for a major poll in that they're late enough that ILM was mostly able to track them in real time - see e.g. this thread starting in 2001:

yeah i never really got the neptunes as evidenced by this list which has stuff like this which is like. i always thought it was a great song that needed a real beat. but i love this now. fuck. i can't make this list because i still think this was ruined by a fucking neptunes beat. okay. three i like. i never got the neptunes outside of clipse beats, hot in herre and southern hospitality and beautiful. absolutely can't stand bouncing back or milkshake. sort of almost happy to see pharrell just going and soundtracking frankenweenie and producing gotye or whatever he does now.

I was def planning on voting for Dylannnnns first three there. I really like Door Man actually, that song had me hoping that Til The Casket Drops would be amazing.

"what will be the oldest song to place" doesn't seem like much of a mystery to me, it'll be "Superthug" unless people are really gung ho about counting those Teddy Riley assists or like "Lookin' At Me" more than i realized.

do ppl vote in these polls based on the production alone or on the song as a whole

i think that's harder to seperate for the Neptunes than for most, especially since Pharrell wrote so many choruses. i have a Neptunes instrumentals mixtape that was really kind of disillusioning, how much less alive some of their tracks feel with the vocals stripped out (in a way that i don't get all the time w/ rap instrumentals).

yeah i was always somewhat neptunes skeptical or at least thought they were overrated, greatly preferred timbaland, but i have to admit this stuff still sounds great and not to get all youtube commenter but man do i miss these guys dominating radio.
