but sometimes a bit on the (cinema)muzak side.

After playing out Sweet Revenge and Smoochy, leading to Riot in Lagos and Thousand Knives, leading to 1996 and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, I'm just now to the point of taking the film scores side of him seriously.

Does today's ilx stand by the suggestions above in this thread? Any to add?

Nobody here has ever mentioned Left Handed Dream, his 1982 LP with Robin Scott (aka M of "Pop Muzik" fame?) Well, I will, because it's good.

Summer Nerves!! Ridiculous vocoder jams. Has the version of "You're A Friend to Me" that Quiet Village jacked

I always liked parts of Left Handed Dream ('Kachakuchanee' & 'The Garden of Poppies' are two of my favorite tracks of his, they could be on B-2 Unit) but I could never handle the Robin Scott tracks. Even though I like the stranger parts of the first two M albums, Scott's style on this is closer to the straightforward third M album which is just trying too hard.

Last year I downloaded Sakamoto's original mix of the album with the weirder instrumental versions of the songs Scott added lyrics to later, and this version is suddenly one of my favorite Sakamoto records.

His playing and production on some of ex-wife (and sometime YMO member) Akiko Yano's albums is superb. Search her 1990 Nonesuch (compiled by John Zorn!)

Man, I didn't know it began as rectal cancer. What with all the news of this new wonder drug for people suffering from that specifically, I guess it might be too late for RS, if he's in the later stages.
