Um, they host some sort of national youth soccer championship, there. That's a big thing for Blaine. I remember quiet. I remember Cicada song. I think I got a hot dog in an SA in Blaine, once.

Michelle Bachman is vile. She has nice hair, though.

So, no signs of life, vile people with nice hair and financial irresponsibility = McCain/Palin are right at home!

i wish there were still a blink function for:

god, i know this feeling. i was so stressed about finding work, and i thought getting a job - any job - would ease that stress, but i almost feel worse. every day i wake up and think about how i'm almost 30 and i work in a shitty retail job, have a useless university education, and basically no career prospects. it's extremely depressing, and i feel like i'm running out of time to make any radical changes to the path i'm on.

Blaine. Because Sarah Palin wants to speak at people who will make her voice sound less annoying.

Anoooooooohhhhhhka Couney.

She needs to go even further north. I'd like to send her to the Arctic Circle myself.

omg my life is a disaster.

that is all.

hi tza, me too. dumped, drinking way too much, kinda dislike my new job, have to leave seattle soon, no career prospects in LA, no idea what i want to do in my life.

(and on wednesday i have to fly back east to my sister's Actual Wedding and Baby Shower, present a toast to love, see her new house, and face all the guests/relatives/high school teachers who will ask me, you know, how and what i'm doing with my days)

remy bean, Monday, 22 September 2008 01:46 (fifteen years ago) link

god i dread telling ppl i haven't seen in awhile what i'm doing with my life: 'yeah i work in a clothing store' 'but didn't you just finally graduate from uni?' 'uh yeah'.

seriously, at the point when you are in the executive offices of macy's yelling at the store management for their incompetency, you realize just how ridiculous your life has become.

remy why do you have to leave seattle

your ass is (Rubyredd), Monday, 22 September 2008 03:33 (fifteen years ago) link

More details, tza.

I'm feeling less doomed this Monday. Mostly b/c yesterday I decided I wasn't going to be unhappy with aspects of my life anymore, just pointless. Now let's see if that attitude lasts until the end of the day. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

J, I think you're forgetting how big of a thing it is to move halfway around the world, start a new relationship, etc. Cut yourself some slack and enjoy the clothes-working for awhile!

xpostsss yeah i'm trying really hard to not let this job get me down... i mean, yes it's cool that i found my best friend, that i'm here, that we've got this small press going (10 pre-orders for our first chapbook!), but i can't seem to get out of this funk concerning my job. i've haven't felt this bad about going to work since i was 19. i think more than the job itself, it's the fact that i don't work with anyone who has a personality or a sense of humour. so depressing. but only about 9 months to go.

your ass is (Rubyredd), Monday, 22 September 2008 15:21 (fifteen years ago) link

also: it would appear that i'm not really paying much tax - only about 2-3%. does this sound right - since i'd be getting most of my tax back at the end of the year, or when i return to nz - or are the payroll people fucking something up?

your ass is (Rubyredd), Monday, 22 September 2008 15:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmm, I usually have 18% taken out of my check. Could it have something to do with your residency status?

I'm right right and you're wrong left (Susan), Monday, 22 September 2008 15:25 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i thought i'd be taxed at around the regular rate, and then have to file a return when i leave to get it all back (afaik that's pretty standard in most countries).

i opened my first american bank account on saturday! it wasn't nearly as stressful as i imagined.

Sara R-C, Monday, 22 September 2008 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

i got the shit taxed out of me before I was a permanent resident. It might be a CA thing or it might have to do with how much you are earning. I know some states dont have income tax at all, only federal tax but i find it really hard to believe one of those states would be california.

this is all brings up my anger about not being able to vote even though im a permanent resident, i pay federal and state tax on my income and everything i buy and im prosecutable under federal and state law. its kind of bullshit.

Sunny, a friend of mine was born in Hawaii, so he's entitled to a US passport, so he's eligible to vote in US elections. Still. Even though he's 28.

That doesn't help you, apart from the assurance that US voting criteria are mental.

My inbox greeted me first thing with a long-ass list of issues my boss wants fixed on one of our sites. NONE of which address the things I've been bugging him about for the past couple of weeks.
