I am always extremely anxious when friend circles of mine merge. I don't know whether I'm worried they won't get along or whether they'll all wonder why I'm friends with this or that person.

It was kind of hard to keep it from happening at my mom's funeral, wehen one of my oldest Brooklyn friends said after meeting my sister that she was a pleasant surprise "because I expected some shrew."

it was awesome to see so many people from all walks of life commingling at my birthday party a few weeks ago - film nerd/archivist pals and ilxors and my bf's writer friends and even someone from my hometown

i was thrilled to introduce my friends to my guy, and i'm pretty sure his friends like me too (i've met most of the ones who live here and in SF). maybe this sounds weird but i honestly wouldn't want to date someone my friends didn't like

if you wanna be my lover
you gotta get with my friends

lex pretend, Friday, 21 September 2012 14:57 (7 months ago) Permalink

it's true though, my friends mean more to me than any lover, and there's something repellent about the kind of people who cocoon themselves away from their social circle once they find a partner

lex pretend, Friday, 21 September 2012 14:58 (7 months ago) Permalink

It's a truism that friends get more jealous than lovers.

i still say "how many of us have them" when i think of the word "friends" on its own

Well, I hope that's the broadest judgement I read today. I can only think of one such example that I've found 'repellent', most of the other examples are like "cool you have kids now, that's awesome" or "you made the right decision when you moved with your boyfriend to the country, I will come and visit you"

Sorry that wasn't meant to sound so harsh
I thought I added a caveat along the lines of "oh you and your superlative negative adjectives"

Straight couples are more apt to go pupal.

I can't really ~complain~ about it, but I do get a little sad when I get "come to my DJ night!" FB invites from friends who haven't actively made any effort to hang out in years aside from invitations to their DJ nights. I need to start having more dinner parties, I guess

i <3 dinner parties and not just cuz i get fed

lex pretend, Friday, 21 September 2012 15:45 (7 months ago) Permalink

i would have way more dinner parties if i didn't have the world's tiniest kitchen (stevie can attest)

My house got real hot in the summer and we didn't have A/C but there are definite dinner parties in my future

introducing boy to friends is A++ fun. even more fun is boy + his friends coming out dancing with you + yr friends, which after two years has finally happened!

last night i talked him into joining us as this awesome loft afterparty thing with jacques greene and mykki blanco and folks (although the cops busted it before physical therapy's set, sigh) but he came and he was dancing (!) and apparently I have a boyfriend who is 'social' now. this is the life.

I went to see Elite Gymnastics and Grimes last night. I got there early because lol I don't know what time shows start any more, and had a bunch of glasses of wine with the 50s-ish gay bartender at Lee's. He talked a lot about Genet! I talked a lot about Mishima. We fantasized about moving to Portugal. After the second glass of wine met the anti-biotics I started feeling Really Really Loopy. I sat through half of Elite Gymnastics set and then... I don't remember! I was feeling really loopy. I checked my phone this morning and apparently, on my way home, I convinced my bf and my best female friend to have a child together. (This is a common theme for me when I'm drunk, playing "who can we knock up"). I also texted my bf that "the opening band kinda sucked" and he said "sucks is a popular genre these days" ha ha.

"elite gymnastics" and "grimes" bother me. because i love gymnastics and i love grime but i DO NOT LIKE THOSE ACTS. there's a shitty indie band called tennis, too. can these awful people stop encroaching on my aesthetic please?

lex pretend, Sunday, 23 September 2012 13:23 (7 months ago) Permalink

ha ha that complaint is so hilarious and petty. I'm going to start a shitty band called Takeaway Menu

whiter than... this? (Ówen P.), Sunday, 23 September 2012 13:26 (7 months ago) Permalink

i have no emotional attachment to the takeaway menu, go right ahead!
