fired up fits so well. the lusty vocals, naughty bassline, and more importantly the overall corny/cheap (?) feels.

that risque iii track is good but doesn't quite fit as it has a rather menacing tone.

is it like a weird disconnect between the vocals and the track, cos i'm getting that from a few of these?

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 21 September 2012 09:34 (eleven years ago) link

kind of like ALL the versions of computer incantations for world peace (inc UR's) but maybe like the original best still

suare, Friday, 21 September 2012 09:40 (eleven years ago) link

altho now actually this one is making a serious case for itself

suare, Friday, 21 September 2012 09:41 (eleven years ago) link

?? UR did a version ??

the late great, Friday, 21 September 2012 18:18 (eleven years ago) link

sorry that was misleading - i meant where it has appeared in any form, was referring to journey of the dragons

suare, Friday, 21 September 2012 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

i thought you might have meant 'journey of the dragons'. it does sound v inspired by it, not a straight sample tho is it?

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 21 September 2012 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

oh wow, need to relisten

what's the other version we're talking about here?

My commiserations to you, sounds like it's time to go to some different clubs.

Recorded a mix of favourite garage tracks for a website the other day, and pulled out this utterly unique bomb:

Does anyone know any tracks which are even remotely like this?

chew i feel like there are a million tracks out there like that!

the late great, Monday, 1 October 2012 20:53 (eleven years ago) link

OK, like it but also THE BOMB.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 1 October 2012 21:49 (eleven years ago) link

I think what makes it so interesting to me that it's so odd, it feels like it shouldn't work, the elements don't have a natural cohesion, and is going to fall apart at any minute, but keeps an intense nervous energy going.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 1 October 2012 21:52 (eleven years ago) link

it is also kinda slow and sparse compared to some of the stuff from that period

three weeks pass...

I just realized that in the last year I've bought 3 of Roman Flugel's albums, one of his mix cds, and an ep of his, and saw him dj. But then I noticed there's no Roman Flugel thread, so I came here to say that La Forza Del Destino holds up incredibly well as a mid 00s micro/minimal house album.

As does his acid workout 'Altes Testament'.

millmeister, Friday, 9 November 2012 20:37 (eleven years ago) link

Altes Testament is all-time material for sure. I think it was like 11 or 12 on my 90s tracks ballot.

Being completely honest here, Carl Craig over the last 10 years or so has bored me to death.

But I will not knock the man's output in the 90s, boy howdy.

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 10 November 2012 04:56 (eleven years ago) link

And while I'm confessing things, I like Jeff Mills' imitators better than his original productions.

Unless we're talking about his collaborations, I like X-103 a ton.

Can someone remind what that track with the sample from an older sould song going "times are chaaanging" is. This feels really obvious but for the life of me I can't remember. I think it may be something on playhouse?

i enjoy delta funktionen's drawn-out brand of tripping dutch techno but i had somehow never really given a good listen to this track which is nice in the way kompakt used to be nice

Soul Capsule - Lady Science [NYC Sunrise Mix]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuxCK-aScr0

This has been killing me since I came across it at the end of Bicep's mix for Fader: https://soundcloud.com/feelmybicep/bicep-muscle-worx-exclusive

So beautiful and deep. Reminds me of Deep Burnt (also from '99).

Any suggestions for more late 90s slow burners?

Plasmon, Sunday, 9 December 2012 04:02 (eleven years ago) link

The urgency with which Soul Capsule should (that is, MUST) reissue their records is impossible to overstate

Unfortunately not on the rerelease was the great, but in a different way, Tek mix:

Few months old but this RA exchange interview with Luke Solomon is excellent. So nice to hear him reminisce about the house scene in the mid-90's and his relationships with the likes of Gemini and Derrick Carter. Plus, RIP Kenny Hawkes http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?exchange=78
