Andy K, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, i think it would be so awesome (in an LOL way) if the yanks got larussa.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

max, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I think he'll have the same amount of pull next year whether he's dead or not.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

To every smug, naïve, clueless Mets fan who for the past few months has harassed, berated and insulted my Yankees, the greatest franchise in the history of professional sports, maybe now you have some minimal understanding of the difference between winning and talking about winning.

Phil Cincotta
Massapequa, N.Y.

I'm trying to establish that philcincotta @ hotmail.com is this guy's address. Cuz we should all send him a sympathetic note, don't you agree?

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link

larussa complains about the stl media being against him.... we have 1 newspaper...

Unbelievable to find this site! My years at PMA were the absolute best. I remember serving on the dance committee...those dances were the hit of the city in the 60's!

morbs, please get in touch with this guy and then copy paste his reply

Phil--

LOVED your classy letter to the Times last Sunday (and what do you know, you had an identical one published in the Post! You're a Renaissance man). Fans like you are what the Greatest Franchise in the Hisory of Professional Sports (TM, YESNetwork) are all about.

Best of luck to the Yanks in the ALCS. I sure hope Captain Clutch doesn't hit into any more DPs. Is Clemens starting Game 2?

Yours,

Dr. Morbius
(a smug, clueless Mets fan)

Dr. Morbius:

Who are you....and how did you get my email?

Your email is dated 10/9.....either I am missing the sarcasm (my favorite form of humor!) or you have been living under a rock!

Phil

PS: Kudos to another renaissance man...you obviously read both also!

yankees payroll: $195MM
orioles payroll: $95MM

average income (Upper East Side): $282,656
average income (inner city Baltimore): $22,832

the problem is they didn't spend enough money.

Guys, I like the mets (not that I, you know, care about baseball, lol), but I'm not gonna pretend that their fielding holds a ten-year-old streetcorner prada knockoff to captain clutch and his golden girls.

gabbneb, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:03 (sixteen years ago) link

i thought upper east siders were mandated to be '96-bandwagon yankees fans? have you checked your lease?

sanskrit, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:06 (sixteen years ago) link

And Steve Pearce (83 percent), who is on the Baltimore Orioles and has been since September.

Andy K, Friday, 19 October 2012 12:01 (eleven years ago) link

i really wonder how the yanks will look in 2-3 seasons. a-rod looks almost finished. jeter had a solid '12 but it wasn't exactly great or even very good, just "good". tex is less giambi and more adam laroche now. granderson has a lot of holes in his game. swish, who knows? are they keeping ichiro? beyond sabathia (who knows how he'll look in a couple years w/his mileage and body type), the staff is iffy. these are all questions pondered before the last several years too but they looked and played like the worst playoff team in a very long time.

omar little, Friday, 19 October 2012 19:46 (eleven years ago) link

all the talk of a-rod being moved seems like hysterical NY media. Like, find me .280/20/100 (healthy caveats) or .260/15/100 @ 3rd base on the open market. yes, he is overpaid but that ship has sailed and you're not going to be able to move him unless you take back 3 heath bells, nevermind one.

jeter: the broken ankle thing will probably push him into sub-sub-replacement territory. it wouldn't shock me to see him hang it up next year if he goes off a cliff.

tex was a bad idea at the time and it looks even worse now. not sure what you do about it except take problem children back and hope for the best. I would think that he would be a more attractive trade target for a team than A-rod. i have no prospective targets to back that up. maybe chicago cubs?

a lot of talk about letting grandy go, but I could also see him replacing swish in RF and gardiner (lolhealthy?) in center. this is price-is-right stuff. Find me 40 HR on the open market etc.

I could see ichiro coming back on a make-good/stopgap contract until someone shakes loose in the minors a la eric chavez.

swish wants werth money lol

i would take kuroda back on a 2 yr contract w/ modest raise if he wanted it. everyone else besides he and CC can burn.

Grimy Little Pimp (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 19 October 2012 20:47 (eleven years ago) link

yeah forgot kuroda. great pickup. he's 38 or something though right? i can see him going for a couple more years at the same level.

what FAs are coming up that they have a shot at signing? i don't see them investing in josh hamilton.

Forgot that NYY will have ro replace catcher too (lolmartin. good greif).

Swisher is the Guy Fieri of major league ballplayers.

sanskrit, Friday, 19 October 2012 21:02 (eleven years ago) link

swisher is much less harmful to mankind than guy fieri

Grimy Little Pimp (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 19 October 2012 21:05 (eleven years ago) link

trading A-Rod is NY media hysteria, but "benching A-Rod" kinda was too.
