There was this movie last year, I guess it's kind of a thing?

Re: Revolution, I thought the actress that plays Charlie was terrible.

Minor detail that sticks in my craw about shows like this: Miles made a big point about that bottle of single malt Scotch being the last one in the area, and he obviously loves Scotch, but when he gets up from the bar to leave with them, he leaves it behind! Pour the damn Scotch in the glass back in the bottle, and take it with you!

Will continue to watch, though.

nickn, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

yeah Charlie was kind of annoying

I said this pretty much verbatim to my friends.

As Charlie and her crew (which includes the woman her father was banging before he was killed) search to find her uncle so that he can help them find her brother, music that sounds like it's coming from a shitty RenFair Game of Thrones cover band (they have one song: the theme) plays.

*kicks dirt* well I liked it

i totally forgot Mob Doctor was that show with Jordana Spiro. I guess I'll give it a shot

Nhex, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 20:28 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i like jordana spiro, my boys was kinda the quintessential watchable crappy summer sitcom

balls, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

Matt Saracen QB is the boyfriend
William Forsythe
Michael Rappaport!

it's no sopranos, more like a Rizzoli Isles kinda show without the cutesy stuff. which I'm okay with. Reminds me a bit of that Chicago cop show from a couple of years back?

the one that had Jennifer Beals in it

Flashdance (Cop Version)?

Maybe I'm just getting older but there are precisely zero new shows I'm looking forward to. I'm going to watch Last Resort and probably some of the comedies "just to see" but I recorded Revolution last night and I can't bring myself to watch it.

I still miss Chicago Code. I think it was actually moving in a good direction when it got axed.

that's what it was called! thank you. yeah I really liked it.

...but I recorded Revolution last night and I can't bring myself to watch it.

It's probably skippable, and that's coming from someone who liked Jerico. As noted above, the reveal of Monroe and Nate, and the closing scene (which hasn't been mentioned here), seem premature for a series like this. It's almost like the producers know the series won't last and have a 13-show full arc planned. I am only continuing because I love the premise, and the show time doesn't conflict with anything else I watch.

That's the only reason I kept watching Awake last season and then it turned around and puked in my face with its final episode.

Inclusion of Giancarlo Esposito also makes it less sucky than it could be

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:36 (eleven years ago) link

pretty psyched for last resort though i have no idea how they can make that work as a Andre Braugher/Scott Speedman series rather than a Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds movie

da croupier, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:36 (eleven years ago) link

lol i meant to write ryan gosling, but same diff

da croupier, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:37 (eleven years ago) link

last resort just seems like such a weird idea for a tv show

curious to see how that plays out

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:38 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i assume they get off the sub eventually, they can't just spend three years down there going "NO, LISTEN TO US, MR PRESIDENT!"

da croupier, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:39 (eleven years ago) link

"a very special submarine episode"

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:39 (eleven years ago) link

ohhhh i see, according to wikipedia they go to an island and start a nuclear-armed family robinson

da croupier, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:40 (eleven years ago) link

also apparently they're trying to prove their innocence, but if they're on an island i can assume that means lots of INTERNETS and maybe some phone calls

da croupier, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

I think there's a drag race with a rival submarine gang in season 2

It is Shaun Ryan of The Shield/Chicago Code/Terriers, so I'll give it a go.

Plus Braugher.

i'm in the great-credits-but-doomed-to-failure camp

Nhex, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 02:39 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah I was pissed about how Awake ended too

Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 03:52 (eleven years ago) link

yeah ryan plus braugher means i might check it out though i don't know how they strech an updated version of the bounty mutineers into a tv show. stoked for jennifer jason leigh on revenge.

Revolution is cheesy as fuck, but I really like the premise. A couple thoughts beyond the scotch thing:

1) I'm all for suspension of disbelief, but literally the first person they talk to in the first place they walk in is the guy they are looking for? GTFO.

2) These guys are maddeningly inconsistent wrt the overgrowth after 15 years. There are tons of industrial areas and warehouses around O'hare that wouldn't have completely just vanished, foundations and all, in just 15 years. Same goes for Wrigley, there'd at least be scattered foundations right around it.

3) Main archer girl has totally taken the Marissa Cooper school of acting classes.

watched bits of revolution and mob doctor. loved that for all the set-up and special effects and etc etc of revolution, Mob Doctor was more involving in 90 seconds thanks to just a screwdriver in a skull and some flip dialogue.

da croupier, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 04:15 (eleven years ago) link

Honestly I can't even tell why Revolution got made, it's such a flat mash-up of cliches. All for Zak Orth getting a paycheck though.

i think we have at least 5 more years of networks salivating to be in The J.G. Abrams Business before they stop buying these expensive-ass pilots

some dude, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 04:54 (eleven years ago) link

also if all the bad guys have visible arm tattoos/brands, why not have a policy of checking everyone's wrists before you let them into the building/reveal your secret identity to them?

i've hidden a white teen on Crimedoer Mountain (reddening), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 04:56 (eleven years ago) link

ass pilots

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 05:01 (eleven years ago) link

i hope this trend goes on as long as possible, frankly - it's not like anything would take its place besides more cop/doctor/lawyer shows, and network TV has a much bigger budget than cable for scifi and fantasy

Nhex, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 05:24 (eleven years ago) link

Agreed. Revolution isn't too far off the radar from enjoyable cable-shlock like Warehouse 13, The Lost World, or the Secret Jules Verne one.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 06:02 (eleven years ago) link

The Last Resort pilot is streamable online. It's good, though it feels like a few episodes' worth of development crammed into 44 minutes.
