eleven months pass...

this show was great by the way, was surprised that not everyone there was 40+, is this because of "lost in translation" or.....?

They seem to be one of the 80s bands that have trickled down to millenials in a reverent way as opposed to an omglol80s way.

NWOFHM! Overlord (krakow), Monday, 14 October 2013 13:17 (ten years ago) link

Well, I uploaded a nice pic, and voted for "Suck" (b-side of "Never Understand"), would appreciate if you did the same.

Mark G, Monday, 14 October 2013 13:31 (ten years ago) link

Of course, I shall be most agrieved if they use my pic and I have to pay £130 to get the crummy poster!

Picked up a bundle of the deluxe expanded editions. Listening to an interview conducted by a disinterested Tommy Vance who sounds incredibly like Alan Partridge.

michaellambert, Thursday, 15 January 2015 20:23 (nine years ago) link

Janice Long used to get fairly decent interviews out of them.

I mentioned uploading a pic for the poster in the box set, never heard owt from them so I assume it wasn't used

Mark G, Friday, 16 January 2015 08:12 (nine years ago) link

the story in psychocandy about young douglas hart is hilarious. "Hey Jim, that wee toddler's looking for you"

This kind of looks like the 120 Minutes set, but I don't remember this happening during a JAMC interview...

really, wow! i recently signed up to their artist poll, so a new album before that poll is great news.

Bee OK, Thursday, 17 November 2016 02:00 (seven years ago) link

I'm hopeful for it. saw them a while back where they were doing a little greatest hits bit then all of psychocandy and it was actually a bonafide great show which i generally don't expect from not particularly active baby boomer bands.

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 8 December 2016 21:47 (seven years ago) link

Song is also bad. Drums are really terrible. Lyrics, chords etc all sound like a JAMC-bot created them. If someone said it was Primal Scream I'd have laughed at it. Mind you there's a certain kind of Jesus and Mary Chain badness which the fans seem to want so what do I know?

everything, Thursday, 8 December 2016 21:48 (seven years ago) link

a bit like a parody of a jamc song that you could imagine in a 90s channel 4 comedy show

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Friday, 9 December 2016 18:13 (seven years ago) link

just heard a snippet on the radio - same line repeated 4 times.

So... Damage and Joy. It's not bad but kinda unnecessary imo, but anyway - they're back.

oh, and "The Jesus and Mary Chain Announce North American Tour"

Next (this) month, the Jesus and Mary Chain will release Damage and Joy, their first album in 18 years. In addition to their upcoming European dates behind the record, the band have now announced a North American spring tour. This May, they will perform in Brooklyn, Chicago, Toronto, and more. Find their upcoming shows below.

Damage and Joy is out March 24 via ADA/Warner Music. It follows the band’s 1998 LP Munki. The new album was recorded with producer Youth. It features contributions from the band’s touring drummer Brian Young, ex-Lush bassist Phil King, and Youth on bass. They’ve so far put out “Always Sad” and “Amputation” from the album.

xp. i enjoyed the show i saw on their last north american tour, like it was a legitimately solid rock show from a gang of olds and I'm glad i went.

having said that i don't think ill be going this time

It's about 10 years since I saw JAMC reunion now, they are playing in Bexhill which is like 15 mins on the train, am tempted.

I enjoyed listening to it last night but I'm not sure how I feel about it in daylight.
