man I need to get back on this. This isn't the first time I've fucked up at following through with a messageboard poll! I'm serious! Life has been a bit chaotic though. Sorry sports fans.

Also recently found on a hidden web 1.0 page with several UK and European based shorts were in some sort of mid-60's competition.. Clips for Dirty Birdy and Wallace & Gromit were among the dozens of nominees. Years later, my friends found this with no context of what it could be about and we decided it was creepy as hell, and the 20-seconds of dialogue have stuck in my head ever since... "Come from there. Who's your parents? Don't know. Grew up in an orphanage." I just did 20-minutes of Google searching to determine the short is called "Ugly Head," and I've been wanting to view the entire thing since 11 years ago, just out of curiousity.

crossposted in tcm alert thread

it’s with great honor that I report to you that an hour’s worth of rare silent-era animation from my collection will be airing on Turner Classic Movies, *tonight*, at 12am eastern/9pm pacific. For this very special and long overdue broadcast event, we’ve curated several rare, once-thought-lost, historically significant or just downright funny cartoons produced in New York City between 1907 and 1926. That’s not all, though--TCM host Robert Osborne, with Jerry Beck co-hosting, are also presenting both Fleischer features, a block of UPA cartoons, and The Adventures of Prince Achmed in addition to the early NYC shorts.

It’s not to be missed! I hope some or many of you can tune in or set your DVR in time. Important links pertaining to this event below...

My guide to the early NYC animation:

yay, it's back on!

Never actually seen "Little Red Hot Riding Hood" before, or at least not all the way through. Pretty good stuff! Takes a few minutes to really get rolling but some killer sight gags along the way - love the wolf's contraption for giving extra applause and table-pounding - and the climax at Grandma's is a real outpouring of technique and excitement (even if the content itself is kind of misogynistic and gross).

yessssssss
psyched about this comeback

billstevejim, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 08:05 (eleven years ago) link

So many timeless sight gags in Red Hot Riding Hood - sadly Tumblr/etc seems heavier on animated gifs of Red rather than the wolf's table-pounding, heart-thumping-out-of-chest, etc.

Bambi Meets Godzilla is so great; turns up in all sorts of weird places/anthologies/etc.

Thanks, silby!
