HI DERE, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^ Just because it works for Dan, doesn't mean it would work for anyone else.

"...finger?"

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:21 (fifteen years ago) link

The post-accident surgery must have been very painful.

A good evening, Mr FAX ME. And thanks for the lift home.

Ed, Thursday, 28 August 2008 13:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Ah drinking with Ilx0rs. It has been years since I've done this. One of these days I'll be able to afford to travel again. Or work will send me out and about.

I'm already hungry and I just ate breakfast a couple of hours ago. argh.

Susan, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link

i have a headache. i really must learn that gin is not nice.

tehresa, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh I had to quit gin as it did nasty things to me. Shame as I loved gin and tonics.

Susan, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I still love me a gin and tonic from time to time. Raggett family drink, that.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Better than my family drink, Icehouse tallboys.

Susan, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:48 (fifteen years ago) link

lol. I don't know what the R family drink is. Probably margaritas. Usually that my mother has dyed some weird color.

Leaving to drop the kids off soon - so excited for State Fair, yay!

Ed - I hope I get to meet you this weekend somehow!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Ok I am taking the boy to a churrchuria (sp?) for his birthday dinner tomorrow night. My stomach, for one, cannot wait.

Susan, Thursday, 28 August 2008 17:05 (fifteen years ago) link

hey sara i found the perfect activity for your kids next summer. instead of paying for summer camp, let them hang at the laundromat! the lady who runs mine had her kids there and put them to work today! folding: it's good for character building.

tehresa, Thursday, 28 August 2008 18:46 (fifteen years ago) link

in my desperation i have just applied for a job at a kids' store :(

Rubyredd, Thursday, 28 August 2008 18:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I can't remember whether it was theresa or Laurel who was raving about the Jolly ship the whiz bang but I thought I'd let you know that one of my colleagues here is the creator of that.

I have nothing to declare but my drunkius. And the fact that I have one more day of freedom before returning to the world of work on Monday. I intend to split the time i have left between here and the mobamamamamabababma coronation ceremony so I would appreciate youse keeping me entertained until that time.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 28 August 2008 22:50 (fifteen years ago) link

that was me, ed. tell him i <3 him.

tehresa, Friday, 29 August 2008 02:13 (fifteen years ago) link

You guys I am exhausted. HI DERE and company = awesome company for the State Fair.

Still watching post-Obama speech coverage. MSNBC had to cut Pat Buchanan off to go to commercial... Pitchfork Pat was gushing over the speak. Possibly one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Speech was AMAZING... but Pat noticed?!

RR - lol, I'll think about that laundrymat idea...

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 04:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I should note that Pat is operating under 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' principles here.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 August 2008 05:09 (fifteen years ago) link

You're undoubtedly right (he's no neocon, you can say that for him), but it was just so weird. I thought I was hallucinating from too much sun earlier today.

Also - Ned, I just saw your post on the Dem thread about thinking about the public transit system while watching Pat talk and went OOOOOOOOOH, I THOUGHT THE SAME THING! (yay, I'm finally Channeling Ned!)

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 05:17 (fifteen years ago) link

must to leave for airport in <6 hours why am i still up?!

tehresa, Friday, 29 August 2008 05:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Ummmm... excited by the speech? The visual of all those people really got me. So did the picture I saw on my husband's iPod on the drive home; people standing in line for *six* miles to get in to the stadium tonight. Unbelievable.

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 05:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I am going to get burned at the stake for this but I was uh how you say not so riveted? Maybe I can blame school.

tehresa, Friday, 29 August 2008 05:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Hahah, no need to apologize for that, T.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 August 2008 06:46 (fifteen years ago) link

No worries; not everyone loves political speeches, punditry, and other nonsense. I love it way too much and actually fear it is some kind of disease. I'll probably watch a lot of the RNC next week even... as long as it doesn't make me super angry (ha, what are the odds, right).

Hope your first evening of school was better than expected, tza!

I'm about to make a second attempt at getting to sleep myself. Bah, insomnia!

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 07:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Obama was indeed awesome last night. At the top of his game.

I was knitting his face for a tote bag while he spoke. Word.

Susan, Friday, 29 August 2008 13:24 (fifteen years ago) link

i emailed my brother every ten minutes for two hours last night. the last email was "fuck fuck fuck" - basically saying how Obama had ruined his chances by giving a boring speech.

I talked to my brother this morning (actually about to hit the road to visit him!) and he said he had the same feelings, but...we both wanted the soaring rhetoric. What we got was policy. And it was the speech he had to give.

I look forward to the soaring rhetoric, because i'm a sucker for it.

I'm still madly in love with my potential President and his wife.

aimurchie, Friday, 29 August 2008 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Obama speech was OK. Solid, and tangible, but not as inspired as others. Having said that, it was just the right thing, and he got the media talking about his challenge to McCain on foreign policy, and his identification with just plain folks, which is what he needed and wanted.

It's satisfying to watch a well-run Democratic campaign. Frankly, it's a relief. I feel positive about the general election campaign. It's gonna be a long slog, though, and it's gonna be ight.

That is until all the unexpected shit happens and I change my tune.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Friday, 29 August 2008 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Sara I do love that stuff! I just... wasn't overwhelmed by the speech.

tehresa, Friday, 29 August 2008 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm with ya FBHAR - but well run? Well, the campaign.
I'm pissed about the trotting out of the Generals - and they left out the African -American woman General Admiral in the roll call - and the guy who spoke was so inarticulate - and Wesley Clark!
I kinda wanted to hear more from the military - they were treated badly, and that's not good.
I have given bad cocktail parties that had less gaffes than the DNC.

I will not go on about this on our nice chatty thread.

aimurchie, Friday, 29 August 2008 15:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyway - I'm NOT visiting my brother. So I DON'T get a belated birthday lunch.
Which means I should fold the laundry and clean the bathroom - I was hoping to put both off until ...somebody else did them.

The only reason I would have kids (and it's too late) would be for the chores aspect. Small slaves, under my thumb.

This is probably due to the fact that my mother had us trained (Sara - are you listening)to bring her toast and coffee in bed. Then, one of us would practice the piano while the other did chores. Then, switch. (My two older brothers were gone - to boarding school).
Then we trotted ourselves out to the bus.

Kids these days, expecting breakfast SERVED to them. Sheesh!

aimurchie, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh and we weren't allowed to watch cartoons - we kind of weren't allowed to watch television - so Saturday mornings one of us had to dust the entire house and the other one had to vacuum.
The weird thing is that my mom would be at the hairdresser, and my Dad was at the church - so we could have watched television, or just rebelled! But we actually did what we were told to do.

I'm making up for lost time, of course!

aimurchie, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Omg step cousin who is border patrol guard talking about 'the illegals' and how sickening they are on the way home from airport. Ugh!

tehresa, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

xxxp I'm a politics kook and will probably enjoy McCain's speech. I think it was the visuals as well as the OMG THAT HAPPENED that got me.

Does the Palin pick remind anyone else of Geraldine Ferraro? Or is that just me?

airmurchie - toast and coffee in bed?! If they'd just let me sleep, I'd be happy! No need to get the coffee maker out!

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, I just hung up on my Dad when he started going on about how the D congress has ruined the economy, not the last 8 years of Bushonomics.

He asked me who I was going to vote for NOW? Sorry, vote has not changed. Yay, Sarah Palin has a vagina! I didn't vote for Hillary in the D caucus, why in god's name would I cross over to the Rs when I think their policies suck?

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 18:06 (fifteen years ago) link

I probably shouldn't be so crabby with my Dad, but I'm tired and sometimes I think he's profoundly dim about me.

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 18:07 (fifteen years ago) link

i have an interview for the kids store scheduled for tues morning. owner sounds like a nice dude, business is focussed away from hard-sell and more on building reg clientele (more my style). pay will be shit (he's already warned me) but i'm not too fussed about that. just hope i'm not gonna have to work all thru the weekend and never get to hang out with jordz :(

Rubyredd, Friday, 29 August 2008 20:42 (fifteen years ago) link

also i am watching (on the tv) my first football game tomorrow! USC vs. .... someone.

also i might finally be able to meet this letterpress printer dude tomorrow.

Rubyredd, Friday, 29 August 2008 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

also i am watching (on the tv) my first football game tomorrow! USC vs. .... someone.

You will discover it is a wimpy version of rugby. (Not that I am passionate about rugby per se, but still.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 August 2008 20:58 (fifteen years ago) link

RR - I'm crossing my fingers on good news all around on this possible job!

Have fun watching football. I've never loved that myself, but it did used to mean we got to eat popcorn at my house. Mmmmmm popcorn.

Sara R-C, Friday, 29 August 2008 21:27 (fifteen years ago) link

The only reason I would have kids (and it's too late) would be for the chores aspect. Small slaves, under my thumb.

Anyone squeezing kid out for hope of chore slave is going to be SORE disappointed. Me and my brother would be laying on the floor playing video games and couldn't even beg EACH OTHER successfully for small favors such as, "Get me some waaaaaaaaaaater." "No, yooooouuuuu get meeee some water."
