maybe i have the wrong read on wagner. i was sorta surprised at how she came off on maher (all the bad stereotypes of an msnbc host tho far off of ed) given her background. does she host weekday stuff?

it's been often said that there is no such person, but who among current tv news ppl is close enough to cronkite that you could imagine a president saying ""if i've lost cronkite, I've lost middle america." like who is the most middle american tv new person, or who is trying to be that person the most? brian williams?

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:46 (8 months ago) Permalink

The question is no longer valid, Mordy. We find channels that mirror our belief systems. Of course, since I don't have cable I'm watching Diane Sawyer now. Draw your own conclusions.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:47 (8 months ago) Permalink

ok, so assume question is valid. or that someone can be striving for something that no longer exists.

Mordy, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 22:54 (8 months ago) Permalink

I think one of the only areas in which NBC wins out is in the nightly news sector. Brian Williams seems to be liked by most everyone, but he's nowhere near having the influence of Walter Kronkite.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 23:03 (8 months ago) Permalink

cronkite didn't have the influence of cronkite tbh

Brian Williams is scary because he's a blank. Remember when crusty William Holden complained about TV babies? He meant Brian Williams. The guy offers no inflections, turns of phrase, or even warmth. He's a guy with varnished looks who reads briefs.

Voted Krystal Ball cos

Ball's father, Edward Ball, was born in West Virginia and has a Ph.D. in physics. Her mother, Rose Marie Ball, is an educator in King George County, Virginia. The name Krystal came from her father, a physicist who did his dissertation on crystals.

ok this Hayes guy is okay on the DNC coverage but his show seems much more promising.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 5 September 2012 18:00 (8 months ago) Permalink

there's some folks missing--mr. born on 3rd and thought he hit a triple luke russert and the foxy Tamron Hall. It's too hard to pick one semi-acceptable one. Much rather "most hated" in which case I would choose Willie Geist...is he a bro, a frat guy, a d-bag, which? He's also part of Nepotism Broadcast Corporation (son of the irritatingly unfunny Bill Geist on CBS Sunday Morning)

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 6 September 2012 00:14 (8 months ago) Permalink

I guess I find Tamron the least offensive. I way, way left of MSNBC but Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow have that NPR smugness that I just can't take

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 6 September 2012 00:15 (8 months ago) Permalink

Tamron Hall is there.

I only included people that host shows, leaving off contributors like Luke because that would go on forever and I would probably have to include people like Richard Wolffe.

MHP for the win - her weekend show is awesome, they get all liberal arts seminar academic instead of just arguing about the news of the day. I like Hayes' weekend show too but I haven't seen it as much since it's on so early.

Maddow is so good at television and as an anchor of MSNBC election/convention coverage. I def enjoy watching her show but it gets a little cutesy and aggravating when she spends whole segments on silly stuff - soundbites of the day blown out of proportion, that sort of thing.

I record Up or just watch it online. It also neatly contains my msnbc watching to two days a week. I like that they can look back on a story and discuss it rather than covering the daily bullshit. I hope it stays a panel.
