is this a captured tracks thing? the first band that pops to mind reading the header is minks. i do get a strong felt/early rough trade vibe out of these guys tho i haven't heard that many current bands aping the lighter end of post punk you sort of describe. some twee/C86 action here and there, sure, but that's about it.

You know I was going to ask if it was a Captured Tracks thing. Seems that way. If it really is mostly them pushing that sound than I'm all for it!

This stuff seems pretty nice, but it's all sort of dream-pop for ipad ads, isn't it? I don't even really mean that as an insult, it's just what it makes me think of.

It's not that slick, tipsy... They're at least creating some kind of atmosphere with depth.

More like late 80s, some dude. That degree of separation is important here.

Oh man I am just now hearing Wild Nothing and it's hitting a sweet spot for me. Loved the last Real Estate record, too.

Yeah definitely! Just a thought- I was listening to "Shadow" by Wild Nothing and the orchestration gives me a fuzzy Clientele kind of feeling. I like the maturity in the sound of the best of these bands. Maybe it's the lack of angst.

2013 albums in this vein that are doing it for me:

Ducktails (Real Estate offshoot, so no surprise)
Kurt Vile (I think he fits, no?)

I think I like the earlier Ducktails stuff better, but never gave that new full band stuff much of a chance either. Kurt Vile definitely applies to me. Very much like that new one.

'Ivy Covered House' off the Ducktails album is the song of the year so far IMO.

Real Estate debuted some new tracks for their hometown crowd in Ridgewood on Sunday. It sounds really great to me but I am too big of a fan to fairly critique it.

Ha! It was supposed to be at the bandshell in the park by the library (like last year) but ominous weather reports forced them to relocate to the middle school. Glenn Mercer Band opened.
