Clive Everton comes up with quote of the championship:

"Dott resting his eyes - it's pretty bright under those lights."

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Helluva clearance from Dott. I think we may get a decent night's sleep after all. Or at least this will be over before my laptop battery gives out.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:23 (seventeen years ago) link

(17-14, btw)

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:24 (seventeen years ago) link

And here's a sports psychologist to offer virtually no insight whatsoever.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:24 (seventeen years ago) link

That was a fantastic frame. Dott looked fucked when he missed that black off the spot then he comes back with a ballsy clearance and gives it an old-skool Ebdon "COME ON!"

I'm starting to enjoy this.

17-14. Dormy.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:25 (seventeen years ago) link

There's something aesthetically displeasing about the b and the d in Ebdon.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Now officially the latest finish to a Crucible final ever.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:31 (seventeen years ago) link

He's not "dormy"! You can't halve the world snooker final! That would be a fitting climax though.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:33 (seventeen years ago) link

The BBC site isn't updating. I think the guys finally fallen asleep.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Ebdon makes utter pie of the reds with the scores at 31-all. Dott is on, and this could be it.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Dott blows it!

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, sort of. He left nothing on for Ebdon = SAFETY BATTLE MCMXXXVIII

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Are people leaving the audience yet? I happen to know the last bus up Ecclesall Road left fifty minutes ago.

caek (caek), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:51 (seventeen years ago) link

EBDON LEAVES THE LAST RED IN THE JAWS!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:52 (seventeen years ago) link

ebdon blows it!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Dott gets it, gets on the black, nearly explodes with joy, and he pots that... it's over.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:52 (seventeen years ago) link

dott has gone through the value of doubts and emerged the other side.

kisses the trophy before the game is finished. don't like that

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Dott's going dotty.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:53 (seventeen years ago) link

You've got to admire Dotts mental toughness at the end.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:53 (seventeen years ago) link

"2006 is the year Dott". Oh, good one, whatshername.

Good night.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:54 (seventeen years ago) link

also: got to love that tobacco sponsorship is not allowed, so snooker gets sponsored by gambling instead! yay!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:55 (seventeen years ago) link

And the second twee-est snooker player in the world is the champion (twee-est being Pinches, obv.)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:55 (seventeen years ago) link

(Pam earlier tonight: "Can we move to wherever Dott is from so Ava can acquire that accent?")

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:56 (seventeen years ago) link

i thought david gray was a bit twee

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Congratulations to Graham Dott and all of his supporters on a tremendous achievement.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 1 May 2006 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

It was worth staying up for in the end. Great comeback by Ebdon and great clearances at the end by Dott. Last session was fairly exciting as the game was always in the balance.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 1 May 2006 23:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Imagine how good he'll be when he grows up!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 1 May 2006 23:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I have now turned off the stream, so tragically I'll never know if they greeted the victory by showing highlights of his play intercut with the video to "Nothing Compares 2 U".

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 1 May 2006 23:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Please don't give Ava that voice. Horrific. Well done, anyway, Graeme. After a Hearts fan and a Celtic fan, finally a Rangers fan wins the world championship.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 1 May 2006 23:11 (seventeen years ago) link

WBS, they cut straight to a Doug Mountjoy trick-shot comp soundtracked by a breakbeat-hampered version of Russ Conway's "Side Saddle".

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 1 May 2006 23:16 (seventeen years ago) link

After a Hearts fan and a Celtic fan,

Two Celtic fans, if the publicity machine at Celtic Park is to be believed, i.e. drape a Celtic flag round Ken Doherty's neck, send him out to do the half-time raffle, hurrah, we have another celebrity fan.

I did stay up and watch it, but my laptop is knackered so I went off to bed and watched it on the portable. I never want to see an hour-plus frame of snooker again as long as I live (though the will to live may well desert me and leave me with little choice should that ever come up again). Well done Graeme. Not a bad first tournament to start your trophy haul with.

eight months pass...
not quite the right thread but.. masters final. 8-3 to ronnie, ding looks to be giving up, shook ronnie's hand at the midsession interval looking like he's about to cry, ronnie puts arm around ding and they both went back to ronnie's dressing room.

this is surely staged to compete with big brother?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:02 (seventeen years ago) link

:(

I thought Ding would be favourite. He's the new god of sport.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Poor little guy! I think he's having a right panic, and just needs a hug.

However, he can at least console himself with that £35,000 he got from making a 147.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Louis - your boy's got no heart.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:11 (seventeen years ago) link

that 147 was truly brilliant, and I saw it live! :D

hmm, this kinda thing was probably always going to happen eventually. he keeps his emotions so cooped up, so hidden, that such an outpouring was practically inevitable were things to go really, really badly.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:13 (seventeen years ago) link

apparently he may have got upset by something the crowd has said

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:14 (seventeen years ago) link

jade's in the crowd

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:14 (seventeen years ago) link

probably finally had enough of 'ding' puns.

poor ding

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:30 (seventeen years ago) link

lol at ronnie's "If ya feelin' me MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!" hand gestures.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:37 (seventeen years ago) link

that was pretty comprehensive, then.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:39 (seventeen years ago) link

O'Sullivan's on another level, man. The only man that can beat him is himself. Unfortunately he does that quite a lot.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I reckon Ding will be at that level pretty soon, personally. He'll be, as Ronnie says, a World Champion, and probably within 3 or 4 years.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 21 January 2007 21:43 (seventeen years ago) link

O'Sullivan's on another level, man. The only man that can beat him is himself. Unfortunately he does that quite a lot.

that's how he practices his cue action innit, beating himself and that.

Anyway, Dott is out, so at least we're guaranteed a mildly interesting final. Although blah blah blah final in the first round blah blah blah. S'a shame L***s J****r is too busy trying to rebuild family bridges to post here anymore, it'd be nice to hear him try and defend his boy as O'Sullivan guts him again.

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 22 April 2007 11:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Can't wait for Ronnie-Ding re-match!

Hoping Hendry gets knocked out early..
