I'm a weirdo who prefers the OG mix to Koze's.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 07:01 (8 months ago) Permalink
I like the Carnival vibez.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 07:02 (8 months ago) Permalink
No I prefer the original Minimal as well - swanee whistles!
A load more personal favourites in here, Whispers is still fantastic and its depressing that neither Aeroplane nor The Magician went further down that road. Inflation obviously amazing. So Much Love To Give is a pinnacle of a sound that's been done to death since but still, wow. I prefer the Terje version of Camino Del Sol but the Joakim one is huge on a dancefloor.
Genuinely surprised that Deck The House is rated so highly, especially on a par with Emerge.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 09:42 (8 months ago) Permalink
i love Deck the House. i've never really thought of it as being quirky/wacky, although i guess it is a bit! the lemon jelly dig hurts.
― jabba hands, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 09:59 (8 months ago) Permalink
It's the diddly acoustic guitar sample that prompts the Lemon Jelly comparison.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:06 (8 months ago) Permalink
yeah it's a fair point! i think i've always found the track too infectious to be bothered by the wackiness. milton parker nails it in that great post up there.
― jabba hands, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:43 (8 months ago) Permalink
i hope 'deck the house' showing up doesn't mean 'skidoos' won't place as it's different class. it probably does mean that tho :(
― second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:49 (8 months ago) Permalink
Skidoos was my #2 I think

Was the #1 vote you Tim?
I went to Las Vegas once and I swear one of the best moments I had there was hearing 'camino del sol' on a club. I don't know if that makes my Vegas trip lame or awesome.

No, and i'm a bit surprised you're asking! Great tune though.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:22 (8 months ago) Permalink
I like basically everything so far. Even overrated stuff like Blawan.
This last stretch was a bit barren for me in terms of stuff from my list making it - all I had was Brutalga Square at #21.Still plenty of goodies though. Love Cry is easily one of my favourite Four Tet tunes, far and away better than most things I've heard from them. Aeroplane - Whispers and the Camino Del Soul remix are right up my street at the moment, Whispers especially. Life's A Beach I'm enjoying way more than West Side.
― Invisible Bongo Band (Mr Andy M), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:48 (8 months ago) Permalink
Fizheuer Ziheuer I almost voted for but I dunno, something about the length of it made it fit awkwardly with most other things on my list. It's kind of a classic anyway, obvs.
― Invisible Bongo Band (Mr Andy M), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:49 (8 months ago) Permalink
Even though I'm not like a raving Villalobos stan I'd be very curious as to how a poll of his tunes would pan out.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:51 (8 months ago) Permalink
lots of stuff i love but some v weird inclusions, that partial arts thing, i literally can't even remember what that sounds like. or "mushroom" for superpitcher seems an odd choice, though i don't know what one track of his i'd pick. the mfa remix i guess will probably feature.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:55 (8 months ago) Permalink
That Partial Arts tune is of an era of Kompakt tunes where I listened to them a fair bit at the time and then never again. This covers basically everything the label did from 2006 onwards mind.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:57 (8 months ago) Permalink
bit disappointed 'out there' wasn't on the noms list, that's my favourite of the studio tracks. might also have thrown a vote to either the kylie or shout out louds remixes. ailtough none of them really fit the brief to my mind.
xp. i voted for partial arts, kind of as a representitive of all those sparkly kompakt late 2000s tunes.
― second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 13:00 (8 months ago) Permalink
To be clear I do think it's a great tune! But I had to think for a moment to remember what it was and was startled to see my own description quoted...
― Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 13:01 (8 months ago) Permalink
i always used to mix it up in my head with 'for penny and alexis'.

Mushroom isn't my favourite Superpitcher but its probably one of the more widely heard ones, especially as its on Mayer's Fabric mix. Would be quite surprised if its the last Superpitcher tune we see here.
Trauermusik is marvellous in a widescreen summer headphones listening track but it's never made me want to actually dance and I couldn't imagine hearing it in a club, but at the same time that's not really the point of the tune. Think I prefer that 07-08 era of Kompakt to the ones immediately before and after it (obviously 00-02 is the best).
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 13:15 (8 months ago) Permalink
fizheuer's appeal does not wear off for me at all. i wouldn't listen to it over and over again, but every time i go back to it it's still entrancing. when making my list i listened to a ton of stuff that i have loved at some point but haven't heard in a while, but i only voted for things based on the effect that they have on me right now, rather than memories of how i enjoyed them, and fizheuer and a few other villalobos tracks totally surprised me. i don't identify as a raving villalobos stan, but i guess my list makes me look a bit like one.
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 22 August 2012 13:17 (8 months ago) Permalink
I'm far from a Villalobos stan and didn't vote for anything here (except maybe Belle Epoque 06, can't remember) but Fizheur is fantastic.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 13:19 (8 months ago) Permalink
would have given my #1 to Losing My Edge. That Partial Arts track is silky smooth - anything else by them people recommend?
― skip, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 13:59 (8 months ago) Permalink
There's a follow-up called Telescope, which is pretty good, and maybe a couple of early non-Kompakt singles but not much else.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 14:05 (8 months ago) Permalink
Partial Arts was Ewan Pearson and Al Usher right? So search other stuff they did but not under that name, like their beautiful remix of Feist.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 14:10 (8 months ago) Permalink
'crusing' was ok. this is otm tho^^
― second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 14:15 (8 months ago) Permalink
Trauermusik is A+ kompakt gold! P.A. Never got close to that level of euphoric wonder, which is a shame - though pretty unfollow-up-able
― formerly EDB (ed.b), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 14:59 (8 months ago) Permalink
It's unfollowupable, that is. I think it was 12 on my ballot.
― formerly EDB (ed.b), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 15:00 (8 months ago) Permalink
that feist mix is good, better than trauermusik!
i find myself (unfairly) switched off pearson's music after reading too many of his trite/pompous articles.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 15:19 (8 months ago) Permalink
I haven't really paid much attention to his stuff post-Cortney Tidwell remix but I remember being really surprised to find out he looks like an old lady from a UK soap.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 15:28 (8 months ago) Permalink
he's still done some great stuff since then, the junior boys and kelley polar remix (with al usher) were both excellent. agree about the tone of some of the writing tho. oh and his remix of 'am' by flowers & sea creatures is as good as anything he's done.
― second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 16:27 (8 months ago) Permalink
Al Usher's Lullaby for Robert and the Bogdan Irkuk remix are definite recommendations and pretty much in line with Trauermusik.

'canopy'. the ritton rmx it's also quite good, iirc. but none of them really have that much to do with 'trauermusik'.

i know im just jockin but that frankie knuckles remix with antony makes me want to go down on dudes, in a good way― max, Friday, January 25, 2008
I think (maybe with some time, to echo arguments made elsewhere on ilm these days) that knuckles remix might stand out as one of the better things to come out of H&LA. in context, it's proper garage, done like no other nowadays. it's lush, the production is both restrained and faultless. and I agree that tune is impossibly catchy!― blunt, Tuesday, February 12, 2008

45. Ellen Allien and Apparat - Way Out (251 points, 9 votes)Year: 2006Youtube: http://youtu.be/zxeQ85PYChc
In terms of pure sound, nothing in 2006 rivalled techno goddess Ellen Allien's collaboration with ex-boyfriend Apparat: these immaculately crafted tracks with their gorgeous textures and restless, propulsive rhythms made for some dizzyingly dreamy head music. This was the default Sunday morning record of 2006, the perfect accompaniment to sitting back, sipping tea and watching the sun rise as we came gently down; it was also the default DJing tool, with 'Way Out' an inevitable anthem at most parties. Its constant presence throughout 2006 - more than any other, this was an album I lived - was immensely satisfying. -lex pretend

"Falling Up" is the best remix I've heard in ages. Tremendous. Reminds me of Coil in places - dunno why exactly - but , damn - when's that new album coming?― Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, February 9, 2006 2:04 AM (6 years ago)

I think the Holden mix of 'The Sky Was Pink' was the first tune to acquire this 'legendary' status without me really being aware of the track at the time. Things would never be the same!― Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, August 9, 2006 1:51 PM (6 years ago)
