56. Fischerspooner - Emerge (210 points, 9 votes)
Year: 2000
Youtube: http://youtu.be/6Y3m9vSdFbM

"Emerge" is sort of the modern-day "Sugar, Sugar" yes.
― Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, March 11, 2003

Electroclash is fucking great! Fischerspooner's "Emerge" is electroclash, right?

55, not 56. I've been really screwing up the numbers today.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:00 (8 months ago) Permalink

And I just realized that the 'emerge' version I have had on my ipod all this years isn't the actual single. Apparently I was only acquainted with the DFA remix after all.

DFA version the one I latched onto.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:02 (8 months ago) Permalink

I saw Akufen walk in to talk to people around the end of mutek this year! Fond memories of a dj set I saw him do at night, outside, near a lake years ago.

your native bacon (mh), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:03 (8 months ago) Permalink

I love the original Emerge. Super sparse and perfect. Haven't listened to the album in forever but remember it being really good.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:04 (8 months ago) Permalink

I liked the second album, too. Judge me.

your native bacon (mh), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:07 (8 months ago) Permalink

second album was better than the first, even if it had no 'emerge' holding it up

detune two oscillators...than what (electricsound), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:11 (8 months ago) Permalink

I regret not voting but am happy to see so much stuff I would've voted for making the cut. I'm a little sad that "Transition" didn't make it higher; that's a really "big" song for me.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:11 (8 months ago) Permalink

xp, dang I need to check the second one out I guess. Don't remember hearing much about it, at the time.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:12 (8 months ago) Permalink

I want the rubicon DVD so bad. Not for the video really, just to have Rubicon ON DVD

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:14 (8 months ago) Permalink

yeah i really feel like transition should be much higher. I don't remember seeing it in the submissions (i thought it was like 98 or something or i would have voted for it top 10) does anyone know if it was added later in the post voting period, or i just missed it?

dsb, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:17 (8 months ago) Permalink

I think I nommed it and I nommed fairly early from memory.

Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:18 (8 months ago) Permalink

oh well, good nom! such a classic.

56. Ricardo Villalobos - Fizheuer Zieheuer (211 points, 9 votes)
Year: 2006
Youtube: http://youtu.be/H8_BAoVwoaM

I think I like Bitches Brew more than 'Fizheuer Zieheuer', it also has some horns on it.
― Omar (Omar), Thursday, November 23, 2006

so, the promos of 'fizheuer zieheuer' have dropped and it's totally insane - i can't stop laughing whilst listening to it. it definitely lives up to the hype. a parping, dubbed out, industrial klanking balkan freak out. i've no idea how long it is but i felt it could have gone on a wee bit longer. :)
― stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, October 6, 2006

Fizheuer's context is firmly early hours; that's when Villalobos generally DJs (even in London he never starts before 5); the concept of dancefloor friendliness changes the later the hour, but at the same time it's not like you could ever rock a party with Duso.

53. Dj Koze - Brutalga Square (216 points, 7 votes)
Year: 2004

Love Fizheuer Zieheuer, love the way the drums drop in and out of time. Perfect for any occasion.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:47 (8 months ago) Permalink

by time I mean sync

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:47 (8 months ago) Permalink

Brutalga Square I could never get that into. Koze Comes Around got a lot of love but I wasn't able to warm up to it so much.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:49 (8 months ago) Permalink

Probably needs to be heard in the proper environment/context

52. Antena - Camino del Sol (Joakim remix) (217 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote)
Year: 2006
Youtube: http://youtu.be/GQLnq3PsFZ8

Antena's "Camina Del Sol (Joakim Mix)" is just too big for words - it's like, trance revivalism meets Ame meets Carl Craig meets, I dunno, just skyscraping largesse. It's almost too big: the whole thing feels incredibly deliberate. But it would be pretty astonishing on the dancefloor.
― Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, October 1, 2006

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:54 (8 months ago) Permalink

Was the #1 vote you Tim?

I went to Las Vegas once and I swear one of the best moments I had there was hearing 'camino del sol' on a club. I don't know if that makes my Vegas trip lame or awesome.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:55 (8 months ago) Permalink

That said I prefer the original one since I knew it first and I have more memories attached to it but the Joakim mix is huge.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:56 (8 months ago) Permalink

Damn I need to hear that. The original is one of my favorite songs ever.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:57 (8 months ago) Permalink

joakim himself dropped 'camino del sol' remix when i saw him once. it was huuuuuuuge. as is he!

Oops actual 51 Track is LCD Soundsystem's Losing my Edge and this is 50.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:08 (8 months ago) Permalink

Too many good quotes on that LCD song. Care to dig some for me while I arrange the image?

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:09 (8 months ago) Permalink

im fine w/skipping lcd soundsystem tbh

Lamp, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:10 (8 months ago) Permalink

Despite adoring both "Life's a Beach" and "Losing My Edge", I didn't vote for either for fear that people would get angry with some interloper indie-ing up the proceedings.

The lyrics are funny, the beat isn't as good as I was hoping, and it goes on a couple of minutes too long. But I like it.
― Tom, Tuesday, July 23, 2002 12:00 AM (10 years ago) Bookmark

I played this for some record collector pals once and one of the more rockisty said something along the lines of "yeah this is pretty funny but it's more of a techno hipster thing, he's not referencing like, the sonics" right before "THE SONICS....THE SONICS...THE SONICS." A+, James Murphy.

I fucked up the Studio thing twice. I think that's my alarm call telling me to sleep. Until tomorrow then! Hope you're enjoying the countdown.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:19 (8 months ago) Permalink

Thanks for all the effort you've put in Moka! This is great

du mein bestie (micarl), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:44 (8 months ago) Permalink

^^^agreed, though listening to so many jamz late at night is not conducive to me sleeping

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:46 (8 months ago) Permalink

these are gooxd picks but transition was a top 10 for me too, surprised it ended so low

the late great, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:54 (8 months ago) Permalink

thanks again, moka!

stuff i loved today:

69. Crazy Cousinz - Inflation [flute @ 1:19 hooked me]
61. Gui Boratto - Beautiful Life [suppose this seems corny to many? it is, but so am i]
60. Matias Aguayo - Minimal (Dj Koze remix)
59. Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle [not big on the vocals, but they're a blip, love everything else]
58. Aeroplane - Whispers [i guess i like everything at this point...]
53. Dj Koze - Brutalga Square
50. Studio - Life's a Beach

contenderizer, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:06 (8 months ago) Permalink

not that i dislike the knife, boards of canada, LCD soundsystem and fischerspooner. i enjoy them all, but they're more familiar to me, and maybe seem to belong to a different storyline? i suppose the same could be said of studio and "la ritournelle", but i don't know them as well, so they took me by surprise.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:08 (8 months ago) Permalink

I don't think I had ever heard that Antena remix before. It's pretty outstanding.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:09 (8 months ago) Permalink

'losing my edge' probably shoulda been 'beat connection' - although tom ewing (or ...someone) made the point back when it was new that the ignored b-side being better was true to classic single type so maybe it's appropriate.

your own personal cheeses (haitch), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:32 (8 months ago) Permalink

"Beat Connection" is better, though I prefer "Yeah". Even so, "Losing My Edge" is more defining so I get it.

I can really listen to "Minimal" over and over again.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:36 (8 months ago) Permalink

Coz that music got no ballz got no funk

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:40 (8 months ago) Permalink

I fucked that up but it's in the spirit
