you only seem to be seeing one direction here though, is where we disagree

i like the way he's staggering releases but i dunno how well it's working if people itt are already finding ways to be unhappy about him releasing 17 mostly dope songs in one year

some dude, Thursday, 16 August 2012 11:08 (eleven years ago) link

Adorn might well be my song of the year.

The ADC Candles In the Sun almost sounds a bit channel orangey, no?

(professor) (longneck), Thursday, 16 August 2012 12:45 (eleven years ago) link

well it came out before that album -- it actually weirded me out to hear the phrase "candles in the sun" in the last track of the frank ocean but i guess it's a more common phrase than i realized

what makes Miguel beautiful?

I know it came out before channel orange, that's why I wrote "almost". But strip it down a bit and they're definitely talking the same musical language.

found this after searching "ledisi" and re-reading part of the 2011 r&b thread - don't think i'd ever heard it before!

also found this otm statement

and "sure thing" is cool but "Teach Me" is the best song on that Miguel album imo

Forgive me for asking probably easy-to-find info, but is there a release date yet?

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

complex said that the song he wrote for alicia keys in jamaica (and that her backing vocals are on) is "candles in the sun" but i don't think that's right -- for one, when i talked to him he told me that it was "where's the fun in forever" & also having heard at least one version of "candles," i don't think her vocals are on that

jer: he's releasing a three-song preview on 9/11, full thing is out 10/2

happy to find out miguel also has thunder thighs

jack chick-fil-A (dayo), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:46 (eleven years ago) link

Excellent. I mean, these staggered EP releases have been nice, but a full album makes things a lot easier for year-end ranking purposes.

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

IF the album is worth ranking above Art Dealer Chic. we'll see.

some dude, Monday, 27 August 2012 16:52 (eleven years ago) link

Well, yeah. But isn't a good chunk of ADC gonna be on this?

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:58 (eleven years ago) link

three songs -- i think it's gonna be as good or better. ADC does have some throwaways.

seriously, if he keeps making album covers like this, i will have to keep making Avatar: The Last Airbender jokes.

yeah, I don't really know how Internet memes work, but I am picturing Flying Miguel photobombing all sorts of news and sports images, dunking on Kobe or Billy Corgan or whatever

“It’s definitely a progressive album,” the 25-year-old told Mina SayWhat. “I would describe it as being progressive in the sense that I’m taking a lot of my more alternative influences and incorporating them.”

Oh, Pussy is Mine is on this? Cool. He played that live at the Joe's Pub show and it felt like older material from somewhere but I didn't entirely recognize it.

Profiles weren't as high, but Love Me Back and Late Nights & Early Mornings come to mind.

which was late nights? marsha ambrosius?

that didn't register for me at ALL. Love me back is still in constant rotation.

thanks for prompting me to play the Ambrosious album again, Andy!

yeah good call with the Jazmine and Marsha albums, dug both. i'm just happy that this time Mig got to dodge the J. Cole bullet that Melanie and Elle caught this year.

some dude, Monday, 27 August 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

Alex, check out the Ambrosius again. Although it faffs around a bit in the middle section and is at times too masochistic for my taste, this is plush, sumptuous R&B of a high order -- probably my favorite one of last year

"Adorn" is great, but I've always thought it needed a B.o.B. verse
