never heard "pussy is mine" before. there's definitely the workings of a dope song there, but sounds kinda demo-ish

the version of "candles" that's on the album is the slower version that he's been playing live

i'm glad it's not just the EP version w/ the Lennon sample cut out, that weirdly makes that version of the song work for me

p much loathe 'candles' and deplore the long, grody post-ocean shadow it casts over this album and the adorn/use me/arch in point axis

agree with this even tho the new version of "Adorn" is basically my favorite thing ever

"arch & point" is the best ADC song yeah but if you want to reuse ADC tracks have the decency to put them as bonus tracks or something - if the next preview EP is tracks 4-6 that'll leave us with uhhh two new songs when the album drops

i'd have less of a problem with reusing the tracks if it seemed as if the album was gonna be like the finished expanded apotheosis of the adc ep sketches, but it doesnt and so feels more like a cheaper cherrypick

the title track btw is definitely arty but it sounded pretty cool -- prod by salaam

I think it's been fairly obvious that Migs loves his guitars.

salaam is one of the best producers of all time but phones it in these days pretty much, "reliable" is his bare minimum

like if you got him on pcp and told him to make a track out of some pots and pans it'd come out sounding reliable

I've heard basically the entire album... It's "cherry picking" in the sense that, yes, he's taking one of the singles from ADC but it totally fits with the direction of the album. It's no biggie. He's putting a good song on his album.

i'm also okay with how he's releasing the album... I think the argument could be made that he's finding an agreeable middle ground between an album leaking outside of the artist's control and the level of buzz you need to have to find the elusive "everyone hearing it at once" feeling (like frank ocean or watch the throne)

i like the way he's staggering releases but i dunno how well it's working if people itt are already finding ways to be unhappy about him releasing 17 mostly dope songs in one year

The ADC Candles In the Sun almost sounds a bit channel orangey, no?

well it came out before that album -- it actually weirded me out to hear the phrase "candles in the sun" in the last track of the frank ocean but i guess it's a more common phrase than i realized

I know it came out before channel orange, that's why I wrote "almost". But strip it down a bit and they're definitely talking the same musical language.

Forgive me for asking probably easy-to-find info, but is there a release date yet?

complex said that the song he wrote for alicia keys in jamaica (and that her backing vocals are on) is "candles in the sun" but i don't think that's right -- for one, when i talked to him he told me that it was "where's the fun in forever" & also having heard at least one version of "candles," i don't think her vocals are on that

Excellent. I mean, these staggered EP releases have been nice, but a full album makes things a lot easier for year-end ranking purposes.
