goole, Friday, 10 August 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

like, actual fascists?

spanky hotel frogstrot (how's life), Friday, 10 August 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

i'm now imagining the "hang in there, kid!" poster reimagined with Mussolini hanging from a tree limb

keeping things contextual (DJP), Friday, 10 August 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

yes, actual fascists.

dan i'm afraid you are a modern subject with a functioning center of irony, you may be immune to the power of a good ezra pound jpg

I am reeeeeeeeeally curious as how you managed to have a run-in with livejournal fascists

also curious to see the pics, are they like pictures of unicorns dancing over rainbows with Nietzsche quotes on them

i wrote about john derbyshire getting fired months ago and i guess some enterprising white patriot did a search and started a re-blog frenzy.

honestly i'd rather not cos the "good" ones are pretty gross

i typed up a really long thing about how glorifying simplification is total bullshit and that-- unless you want to give up facebook and your iphone and go live on a farm alone-- that the world you're stuck in is actually really super fucking complicated but that's also what makes it SO FUCKING AWESOME a lot of the time: all the complicated things that have to work together to make a life beautiful and rewarding and worth living and if you ignore all of that stuff you're really doing yourself a disservice, but i deleted it before i posted it.

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:23 (eleven years ago) link

this waa a nice liberal person i know who posted this. who is apparently secretly rush limbaugh. or secretly 90 years old.

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:24 (eleven years ago) link

i tried to find the origin of this quote via google and everywhere it is posted has the same non-specific story. i think the principal dude made it up. but the principal is real. he's in new zealand.

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:25 (eleven years ago) link

i keep seeing those phony-sounding stories on facebook. like about the woman who didn't want to sit next to a black guy on an airplane. and i can't believe any of them are real. faux-inpiration.

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:26 (eleven years ago) link

But aren't you INSPIRED, Scott?

Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Friday, 10 August 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

It doesn't matter if the story is real as long as the inspiration is!

Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Friday, 10 August 2012 22:29 (eleven years ago) link

no. they piss me off.

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:30 (eleven years ago) link

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:31 (eleven years ago) link

Grow up, stop being a crybaby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone, Scott.

Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Friday, 10 August 2012 22:36 (eleven years ago) link

this person who posted this used the young people who hang out on main street here in town all day doing nothing as an example of kids who needed to do something. but what i had to point out to them was that most of the kids who hang out on main street all day here in town are really fucked up! and have fucked up families and no money and neglect/abuse/addiction/malnutrition/etc in their history. they are not just gonna take on the world and help end war any time soon! there is no empathy though and everyone just hates them because they are dirty and poor and fucked up! maybe mitt romney will win this election...

i also had to point out that some of the young people on main street were actually very environmentally aware citizens because some of them live in the woods in tents behind the friggin' cumberland farms convenience store and not in actual homes!

scott seward, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

it really is like posting an old ed anger column from the national enquirer on your facebook and taking it really seriously.

so the airline story goes back to the 90's:

http://www.snopes.com/travel/airline/obnoxious.asp

the one going around on facebook includes a picture of people on an airplane taking pictures of something with their cell-phones.

From that Snopes page

I once was on a plane where I was served by an obviously homosexual male flight attendant. At one point, he bounced over to where I was sitting and announced, "The Captain has asked me to announce that he will be landing the big scary plane shortly, so if you could just put up your trays — that would be great."

I did as he had instructed, but the woman sitting next to me did not. A few moments later, our flight attendant came back and said to her, "Ma'am, perhaps you couldn't hear me over the big scary engine, but I asked you to please put up your tray so that the captain can land the plane."

She still wouldn't comply. Now the attendant was getting rather angry and asked her again to put up the tray. She then calmly turned to him and said, "In my country, I am called a princess. I take orders from no one."

Our flight attendant replied, "Oh yeah? Well in MY country, I'm called a queen, and I outrank you, bitch! So put the tray up!"
