Granted, one Kraftwerk track has already been named, but there is too much Moog on this one not to be mentioned.

Hey Joe, what do you think of "Cans and Brahms"? (I'm guessing there's a Moog in there?) I used to skip it or think of it as filler but I've been really noticing it recently. There's a lot going on - it's really pretty cool how he layered four different types of keyboards to do an arrangement of the different instrumental sections in the Brahms piece. I like that he didn't use either obvious 'futuristic' synthy signifiers or imitation woodwind, brass, etc sounds. It's not at all flashy solo wank or whatever.

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 13:27 (7 years ago) Permalink

(Which is partly to say, sorry Ned, but I've started to realize that RICK WAKEMAN IS A GENIUS. I've been appreciating "Roundabout" more than I did before too.)

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 13:29 (7 years ago) Permalink

(Not that I have anything against obvious 'futuristic' synthy signifiers, mind you.)

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 13:37 (7 years ago) Permalink

yeah, Wakeman sounds pretty good on Fragile - check the piano break in "South Side of the Sky", one of the coolest Yes songs because of that

Hmmm...looks like 200 was an optimistic figure. No doubt many (most?) ILMers can't tell a Moog from an ARP from a whatever by ear alone.

You can win a Moog, but you have to buy a Prodigy album. I don't think it's worth it, but then again, I don't know:

Re: "Won't Get Fooled Again" upthread, it's not a Moog, but rather a Lowrey organ fed through an ARP: http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/guitar/lowrey.html. Townshend never used a Moog (on record, at least), only ARPs and an EMS VCS3.
