Argh, I just started reading Achewood from the beginning, and now that's all I want to do all day.

Amanda makes a good margarita, I'll tell you that.
Equal parts tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Easy breezy and DELISH.
HAHA xp!
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link
Like, I was always kind of luke warm on margaritas until I had a Handamandarita. It's just another example of how overcomplicating something can make it totally suck.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:10 (sixteen years ago) link
Maybe that's why I haven't had one in so long, because I fear that it'll be not-so-good. I don't trust Chicago margaritas. Possibly an unfounded fear.
I love a good rita, though -- it's the colorful, fruity beverage you can drink without looking like a Girl Drink Drunk.

good morning, chicago.
two travel questions-- any opinions on the best way to o'hare from lakeview? going into the loop to find the blue line seems silly, but i don't know. car is an option, but i heard construction is insane.
also, how early do you have to check in for domestic flights these days? i know i should check the TSA website but am still half asleep...
― colette, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link
take fullerton bus to blue line @ california stop, take blue line the rest of the way
― deej, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link
Take a bus west to the blue line.
Check in online (usually allowed 24hrs in advance) and print off a boarding pass.
xp: see?

Bob Cummings played Bob Collins, a swinging bachelor and a professional beautiful model photographer. In his leisure time, Bob loved the ladies and had frequent dates with those gorgeous women.
Yes - any westbound bus to a blue line stop is your ticket to O'Hare happiness.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link
Man I cannot imagine taking bus/subway to the airport if I had a lot of luggage.
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link
Wuss.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh yeah - definitely print off your boarding pass from hom, and if you have to check bags, check in with the outside guys. It's like $2, but $2 not to stand in those long clusterfucky self check-in lines is the bargain of a lifetime.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:36 (sixteen years ago) link
Home. Print your boarding pass from home.
I did it in Seattle and got my knees groped by a tiny man who only spoke Spanish and REEKED of hard liquor and could barely stand up. When I hit his hand away he proceeded to complain about me to the lady in the other seat (who did not appear to understand Spanish) for about two miles. Give me the MTA any day.
― Laurel, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:37 (sixteen years ago) link
Yeah, I guess! My drum case is really big though.
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:38 (sixteen years ago) link
And I think you're still supposed to put all your liquids in < 4 oz containers and put them in one quart sized plastic bag, BUT when I flew to DE a couple of weeks ago, I totally forgot to pull my quart-sized bag out of my checked luggage and nobody said shit about it. So who knows.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link
The last couple times I've flown, security has been a crapshoot. Seems like sometimes they're chill about stuff, and sometimes they pull you aside and give you a full-body pat-down.
― kenan, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:40 (sixteen years ago) link
Sarah and I might drive to NC for xmas. It might suck, but holiday ticket prices are $$$$$$$$.
― n/a, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:44 (sixteen years ago) link
Plus, not as long a drive as when we drove to Va. a few months ago.
― n/a, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link
we're only going for a long weekend so hopefully not too much luggage. ok, will look into this bus thing, thanks for the advice!
― colette, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link
good tip on the checking in at home. i just did, but it says we don't have assigned seats and when i looked at the seat selector thing, there are no seats left. should i be worried?
― colette, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:50 (sixteen years ago) link
response from crazy possibly-stolen-bike-selling person from yesterday (after I asked what make and model the bike is):
HI, how would I know that, Bikes do not come with makes and model information written on them. I sell used bikes, I don't ask the auctions what year the bikes were made in, i just check them out and if they are worthy, I purchase them , that's pretty much the same thing you have to do. Check the bike out and if you find it worthy, you buy it. That's the way it works. thanks.
― dan m, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link
Colette - Are you flying Southwest? They don't assign seats. Otherwise, I don't know. I've never encountered that before. I would call and find out WTF is going on, were I in your position.

Hey guys, this is that fondue/beer/cheese/burgers place that I really liked but can never remember the name of: http://chicagoburgerproject.blogspot.com/2007/10/hot-chocolate.html
One of my friends was training for a marathon and came home needing a "protein dream", so we splurged on burgers there and it was awesome.
― Jordan, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:48 (sixteen years ago) link
We almost ate brunch at that place on Saturday. We stood in the doorway for a while before moving on.

They have a lot of foreign beers that I had never heard of before, they were in wine bottle sizes and meant to be split among the table.

Why does the power go out in the West Loop so much? My predecessor left me a whole set of instructions for what to do after a power failure and said that it happens a lot. And it has twice now. It goes out in a 3 or 4 block area usu. from what the lawyers say.
