to nate woolls
, i hope you go BIG with the Cure poll. meaning i hope we can pick more than 20 songs. they have such a huge catalog that i know i could easily do a Top 50 and still hate that i would have to leave off some of my favorites. plus being ILM, where there are a bunch of Cure heads, this poll is going to be classic, at least i hope...

When is The Cure poll likely to be? I fear I may be on holiday. (not enough to cancel the holiday)

Özil Gummidge (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

I'd guess early August. If Nate Woolls has voting details in mind -- like if he knows it's going to be the standard 20-spot -- no reason he couldn't post that here and you could vote early. (For that matter, I know Ween is going to be a standard 20, so anyone can vote now if they're planning on taking a year off from ILX.)

Neil Jung (WmC), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

I think 50 songs may be slightly too many but 20 is definitely too few, so I'm going to make an executive decision and say 40 songs. So go ahead and make your lists, I need to start doing some prep work.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 21:01 (eleven years ago) link

Ha! I've been stuck on 21 songs for the last 3 weeks for the Cure poll since I decided to get my shit together early for a change. That'll learn me!

Therefore both 'Accuracy' and 'Shake Dog Shake' survive!

pandemic, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 10:12 (eleven years ago) link

I would seriously be honored and thrilled to run a poll down the road on either Iron Maiden or Judas Priest... I think both of them are great candidates!

Clarke B., Wednesday, 11 July 2012 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

pleeeeease do that

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:36 (eleven years ago) link

YEAH, 40 Cure songs. thanks nate!

Bee OK, Thursday, 12 July 2012 02:30 (eleven years ago) link

Absentee balloting -- not just for college kids and shut-ins anymore!

Neil Jung (WmC), Thursday, 12 July 2012 02:33 (eleven years ago) link

Exhausting, rewarding. Please add me to the queue for Yo La Tengo/Dump in the summer of...2014?

clemenza, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:46 (eleven years ago) link

gonna bite the bullet and say put me down to run XTC and P-Funk polls. I don't expect more than a dozen votes for either tbh but we'll see...

Would there be interest in a Low one if I did it? 9 albums proper, a pile of eps - that's enough of a career I think.

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Monday, 16 July 2012 15:46 (eleven years ago) link

I assume YLT will include Condo Fucks and YLT + Jad Fair, etc.

Neil Jung (WmC), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:03 (eleven years ago) link

Haven't heard that stuff myself--I love a bunch of Dump songs--but yes, I like polls that include anything tangentially related.

clemenza, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

thx WmC - I don't necessarily need to do XTC and P-Funk back-to-back, would be cool with some other polls coming between those two fwiw

the alternate vision continues his vision quest! (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:15 (eleven years ago) link

Make P-Funk the first imo.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:16 (eleven years ago) link

I figured you wouldn't want to do them consecutively, but there's plenty of time to work out the solution. Someone might want or need to trade their spot down to yours, or I can place the next few between XTC and P-Funk. In which case, which do you prefer to be higher?

Neil Jung (WmC), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:45 (eleven years ago) link

P-Funk I guess - thx for dealing!

Bump for LBI -- ready to go with KB?

Neil Jung (WmC), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

Sent LBI an email.

Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 13:38 (eleven years ago) link

Email bounced because his inbox was too full.

Nate, if LBI doesn't show up, would you be ready to go with The Cure?

Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 16:04 (eleven years ago) link

Got a college assignment due in on Tuesday but after that I'd be good to go.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 19:51 (eleven years ago) link

Pretty much all you'd have to do is start the balloting thread, give a closing date, number of spots on the ballot and an email address and you'd be done for at least a week. Would be good to get the next one moving this week if possible. Sorry to be a nudzh, I just keep seeing a list with 66 names on it.

Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

That's a good point, yeah I'll start it whenever you want me to.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 20:05 (eleven years ago) link

Sounds good to me (for purely selfish reasons as I don't want to miss the Cure one by being on holiday)

Özil Gummidge (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link

Thing is, thanks to Mod Powers I can see that Le Bateau Ivre has accessed ILX today. But email bounces and I can't reach through the ether and make him see this thread, and the last time he posted in it was 8 months ago.

Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 20:26 (eleven years ago) link

I emailed LBI and he asked me to pass on his apologies but he's not able to run it just now. He did say that I could step into his shoes, which I can do but it'd actually work better for me if Nate went first.

So shall we do it that way? It also gives LBI a couple of weeks in case he changes his mind.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah I'm going to go for it now.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

Actually, Fleetwood Mac hasn't finished yet. Should I wait or go now? Is there usually a bit of an overlap?

nate woolls, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 22:07 (eleven years ago) link

FM finishes tomorrow. Go whenever you like, it won't spoil any party.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 22:08 (eleven years ago) link

Hey guys, been away from ilx for a long time, apart from a post or two. In no way did I intend to screw up the poll order here, I had completely forgotten about this. Massive props to Ismael for contacting me about this. Apologies but I can't do the poll, it's up for grabs. Make it a bloody good one!

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 23:12 (eleven years ago) link

Le Bateau Ivre!

welcome back! stay!

you're all going to hello (Z S), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 23:17 (eleven years ago) link

Oh cool, this all worked out while I was having my post-meal coma. LBI, hope all's well and that the reason you can't do the poll is because you have too much good stuff going on.

Ismael, do you want the Kate Bush poll to go right after the Cure, or do you want to bump down more spots on the list?

Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 23:48 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks Zach! Trying...

You keep on giffing up the world into a better place!

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 23:49 (eleven years ago) link

@WmC, yeah, "good stuff" would be nice, thanks man.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 23:50 (eleven years ago) link

I'll go right after The Cure, please

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 26 July 2012 04:08 (eleven years ago) link

(updated list, edited out for easier scrolling)

Neil Jung (WmC), Thursday, 26 July 2012 12:50 (eleven years ago) link

Could I get a check-in from Tarfumes, Mordy, V79 and Billy Dods confirming their polls coming up? V79 hasn't posted in this thread in several months and hasn't posted on ILX in a few weeks. There should be more warning of lineup changes, and I appreciate Nate's willingness to jump in with the Cure on zero notice.

Neil Jung (WmC), Thursday, 26 July 2012 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

I'm good to go, expecting to get it started sometime in October depending how quickly the others roll by.

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Thursday, 26 July 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

Yup, all set. I'm guessing, what, late August/early Sept?

absolutely stoked for The Cure and Kate Bush. i'm going to have a field day with both those.

charlie h, Thursday, 26 July 2012 15:37 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I can imagine what that field day's going to look like.

pplains, Thursday, 26 July 2012 15:44 (eleven years ago) link

haha yeah kinda. except i should be so lucky to have an entourage like that :(

charlie h, Thursday, 26 July 2012 15:49 (eleven years ago) link

I'm confirming! I'm going to need some hand-holding running the thing (I heard there's a spreadsheet or something to make the tabulation easier? I am terrible at using Excel however), if someone doesn't mind helping me?

Mordy, Thursday, 26 July 2012 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

I'm excited that, after The Cure, I get to take a lengthy break from these. Y'all have fun with your polls I care very little about! I'll be back for The Boss.
