I was honestly not kidding or being snarky when I said what I said upthread about Chaki only seeming mean if you don't believe him. It's a huge, weird split. I have been having conversations about how Luna's probably fake for, like, years now, and I think a lot of us were just playing along on ILX because, you know, why bother? So when Chaki up and said it on the board, it was just ... funny. And if you read all his posts from that perspective, he has actually been really nice, which is to say that he just wandered around going "lol whatever dudes, she doesn't exist!" Those who thought it was mean of him to just "hint" around it are maybe fooling themselves a little -- would it have seemed less "mean" if he'd started a whole thread called "Luna is fake," with documented timelines of evidence? Would things have gone any differently?

P.S. I always figured her son was real! Seriously, the original thing that made me wonder was that she'd have like 10,000 normal-ass photos of her kid and dogs, a handful of shots of Jennifer Garner's large-breasted little sister partying in clubs, and not a single one of herself actually with her own son. Plus a crapload of dramatic stories about hospitalizations and coke addictions and stuff. Plus I'm sorry if this is a little too normalizing and stereotypical of a thing to say, but it was a little hard to believe that some LA hot-chick party girl spent her nights flirting with every average dork on the internet.

the way i see it luna told a lot of truth but tried to get some extra attention with a little fiction. which is fine and kind of "lol" as long as she's not using it to draw in some poor dudes who actually grow to "love" this creation she leads them to believe is real, then drops out of their lives just as they're about to meet her. the story i told about the dude going to SF--which i heard from 2 different people--is SO awful.

I think so, yes. I mean, obviously it doesn't look mean now, but it did so before because Chaki was dropping these hints for days before the whole truth came out. Before that I thought this was just some personal grudge he had with Luna, but when he told the whole truth and when people like you backed him up, there was little in question anymore.

You know I don't think I've ever said I was leaving ILx before (*waits for dork to find contradictory post*) but I know saying you're gone and then coming back is the cliche. I don't think I will.

I've been there for six years now and always felt there really wasn't anything that would make me leave. I've weathered many changes in tone, good people leaving and personal attacks. But now I just don't care anymore. The board has been so boring in general lately and I keep saying "oh it will get better it always does." I think I'm tired of waiting for that.

There have been a lot of good new posters lately and I've enjoyed falling in with a set of mostly Irish/Scottish folks. I'll miss those people and their posts about their daily lives, just as I miss similar posts from others who have left before me.

As useful as ILx has been for connecting with people it's also given small people's worst tendencies a stage. I'm tired of the bullying. I'm tired of personal attacks. I'm tired of people airing other's dirty laundry as part of thinly-veiled personal vendettas. What did it for me this time was the use of second-hand gossip, that had no place on the board in the first place, to harass other users. Some people seriously lack appropriate social and communication skills. I'm sick of letting them bother me and sick of wasting my time and mental energy reading their stupidity.

ILx has been a great distraction for bored moments at work. To break myself of it I'll have to find new distractions. Facebook? Scrabble? Maybe writing/blogging. If any of you are a part of another community, let me know. I hate to leave the good folks behind.
