I have joined James's ILX Audioscrobbler group but I don't really understand what it does. Can we use it to create a last.fm radio station?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Been on it a good 6 months I guess now, pretty decent site, but it's not turning up anything I wasn't aware of already.

MattR (MattR), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I think so, Alba. Also it will track what all of us are listening to, creating an ILX Chart of sorts (which will only really be fun if enough people join).

We have seven members currently. We need ten for the last.fm radio station bit to work.

Come on all! Join http://www.audioscrobbler.com/group/ilXor

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:30 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm now listening to Gareth's personal radio station. I have a feeling his currently listening habits are so outré that the Butthole Surfers will be the only thing last.fm have the licence to play.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:32 (nineteen years ago) link

last.fm is so exciting though - there's a surprising amount of stuff they've got for streaming, and you can basically just sit there and listen to someone else's records for a while, or a group of people's. I am looking forward to the ilxor station 'launching'.

(just to explain - it's linked to your audioscrobbler stats, though you can add your collection manually if you like too)

Top artist: Mort Garson.
Mort Garson?

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:11 (nineteen years ago) link

That's Gareth's work.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Woo! We now have 11 members so the last.fm ILX radio is off the ground. First track? Bob Mould - 'First Drag Of The Day'. Hmmm.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:20 (nineteen years ago) link

i am now in the group as immobilisme

todd swiss (eliti), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Next up: Nas - 'N.Y. State Of Mind'.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:22 (nineteen years ago) link

thanks alba

i couldn't find a link to that on the page at audioscrobbler, weirdly

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:26 (nineteen years ago) link

There should be a last.fm button sitting somewhere on the top right of the audioscrobbler page. Anyway - you got it working now, yeah? I've already heard a couple of new things I love.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:38 (nineteen years ago) link

I just get an error message. I'll try on my mac at home.

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:45 (nineteen years ago) link

20 members now. Time for the inaugural ILX top 10:

1 Dizzee Rascal 305
2 Mort Garson 227
3 The Fall 214
4 Randy Newman 158
5 Boards of Canada 153
6 Interpol 147
7 superpitcher 143
8 Wiley 141
9 Annie 135
10 Kings Of Convenience 133

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Mort Garson is Gareth's crazy wildcard.

Randy Newman is the surprise of the pack, I think.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:06 (nineteen years ago) link

i will make psb enter that list

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:07 (nineteen years ago) link

I mean...have you fucking HEARD Mort Garson???

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:13 (nineteen years ago) link

j/k

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:13 (nineteen years ago) link

The thing is, it's kind of weighted to albums that last.fm are able to stream, cause you can add those en masse, rather than having to actually listen to them millions of times. This doesn't account for Mort Garson, of course.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Gareth sent me a Mort Garson track the other day. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't want to listen to it 227 times.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:16 (nineteen years ago) link

Square!

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Randy Newman's postion is thanks to me I think.

(NB pay no attention to my "Recent Tracks" list)

Richard C (avoid80), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:21 (nineteen years ago) link

it wasnt one track 227 times. garson has many wonderful tracks. if you look at my profile, you'll see it is many tracks. and yes, bells of russian is me, but thats partly because i fell asleep once and winamp looped the lp while i was sleeping so it played a million times

*@*.* (gareth), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:43 (nineteen years ago) link

I didn't mean it about the 227 times.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:45 (nineteen years ago) link

Garteh sleeps to looped Russian Bells!

This application is ripe for subversion.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 00:06 (nineteen years ago) link

last.fm profiles aren't private, that's kind of the point.

Neil S, Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:14 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah profiles aren't private, but people coming to and from your own profile are. imagine blogging about everyone who visited your facebook account and their fucking status updates? like 300 x in a row.

matt p (Matt P), Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i mean how can you justify listing everyone's taste match to your own as they come and go, comment about their library, wonder about their friends, etc., hour in and hour out, without that becoming well CREEPY?

matt p (Matt P), Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:30 (fifteen years ago) link

you know what, creepy isn't the right word. i think what i'm looking for here is 'intrusive.'

matt p (Matt P), Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:33 (fifteen years ago) link

say herman g. neuname went on for four posts about some guy, say 'struggin,' who: visited his last.fm profile, received a "very low" compatibility rating with "insane clown posse, iron and wine, beyonce, trae" as exceptions, added him as a friend, left an unsavory comment, decided his shitty metal ass wasn't worth it, defriended him.

fun times. and then 'struggin' googles himself and finds herman g. neuname talking shit about him or being funny or whatever on a public board that has nothing to do with last.fm and had no real right to post that info in the first place.

herman g. neuname why exactly are you doing this?

matt p (Matt P), Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:41 (fifteen years ago) link

is that aggro enuff for you neil s? (you little bitch)

matt p (Matt P), Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:42 (fifteen years ago) link

oh fuck off

Neil S, Thursday, 1 January 2009 13:49 (fifteen years ago) link

And coming from you accusations of shit talking seem just a little bit hypocritical, since that's all you've done since turning up on this board.

Neil S, Thursday, 1 January 2009 14:18 (fifteen years ago) link

(you little bitch)

can i just say hearing this in sotto voce is hilarious
