So my answer to the question is:They are creepy fuckers when you stumble across them eating something on the ground at night, in thick fog.

A group of orphaned baby owls are being taken under the wing of a new mother - which happens to be a cuddly toy. The toy is being used at the New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park to give four tawny owls a surrogate family. The quartet all cuddle under the wings of the stuffed toy, which has been mother to another two orphans who have since been moved on to an outside pen.

It's not just one cooing sound or whatever you call these owl sounds, it's different tones and inflections, high and low, long and short and it's goes on and on all night from owl to owl and so on. Even the high school football team is called the Owls.
