I looked at his site and there was nothing available for Chicago, but I don't know if that meant it was sold out or simply not on sale yet.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 12:45 (eleven years ago) link

Isn't $45 a lot? I've never been to a big comedy show, excuse my ignorance.

head peepin' (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 12:47 (eleven years ago) link

$45 is a bit more than half of what he was asking for last time around, I think. He was on Bill Simmons's podcast yesterday talking about how some comedians are going for $100 tickets these days.

Bryan, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 13:04 (eleven years ago) link

finally got around to finishing season 2 and holy shit it's amazing. it's such a treat to watch every episode and have no idea where it's going

Yeah--interesting how sitcoms have always been about predictible form and structure, but this...

Chicago Symphony Center, Nov. 9 and 16. Early and late shows for both dates.

xp I dunno if that reflects on your typical sitcom or if this show really is that brilliant

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:02 (eleven years ago) link

In general, American sitcom evolution is multi-cam (new situations in the same room) to single cam, with Scrubs and now 30 Rock et al throwing in surprise cut-aways, but with Louie you don't even know whether the credits will be at the start and when the stories will start or end.

It's like: when Woody Allen put out Crimes and Misdemeanors, it seemed like a wide range of comedy and drama, and now, after Sopranos et al, it doesn't feel radical. Same way a sitcom with some breadth or playing with tone (All in the Family) feels like it's covering a narrower range than this. It's closer to Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:11 (eleven years ago) link

Season 2 is on netflix now

Moodles, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:11 (eleven years ago) link

xpost I saw that the shows were listed, but when I looked yesterday it said there was nothing available yet (didn't say sold out). This morning, the early show says sold out, but I bought four tickets to the late show.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, my bad.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

i think we're better off just not calling Louie a sitcom at all

some dude, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

And for whomever asked, frankly, $45 is cheap for just about anybody in a theater or bigger these days.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

The one that started like an actual sitcom was pretty amazing

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link

i think at this point he could sell out a 60 buck tour no problem, but generally 15 of that would be taxes and fees. this is a much better method. also, i gotta say dude really does a solid, lengthy show based on the beacon set. he's a pro and worth 45.

Oh, Louie.

I have to say, though, I laughed throughout the entirety of multiple episodes in season one and only laughed a couple times during season two.
I miss the lols.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:20 (eleven years ago) link

I just watched the one last night with the sitcom open, then his stand-up bit about the ex-girlfriend who killed herself, then Dane Cook, then the great button in the end-credits, all connected without a rational or easy explanation.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:28 (eleven years ago) link

When I saw him last time he was totally worth the money. Is he unique in dumping his material each time around and starting from scratch?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

not a lot of comics do that afaik, particularly ones whose material isn't heavily 'topical' or largely improvised

some dude, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:38 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, there are comics that coast on the same material for years.

I found him in a Bon Ton ad (Nicole), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:40 (eleven years ago) link

Hi. I'm going on tour all over America, or at least some of it.
Tickets for this tour are available EXCLUSIVELY here on louisck.com.
Tickets are 45 dollars, every seat, every City. That includes all taxes and fees. You don't have to join anything and you don't have to hear from me again unless you want to. Just cheap tickets to see me do an all new bunch of jokes.
See you on the road, bitches.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:43 (eleven years ago) link

yep the actual ticket cost for me was like $42.37 or something

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 14:46 (eleven years ago) link

because of edinburgh, which even the big comics do, i think most non-us anglo comics write a show a year. there isn't that pressure/milestone for us comics afaict.

$45 is apparently about half what he was charging last year, so i assume he could comfortably sell out a $60 tour forks

caek, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 15:13 (eleven years ago) link

He played Bass Hall in Fort Worth last year (or, god, that might have been two years ago) - nosebleeds were $60ish and he sold that place out.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 15:17 (eleven years ago) link

Got tix for his show in Baltimore on New Year's Eve. Early enough to not mess with any late night plans. Pretty stoked!

circa1916, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 15:23 (eleven years ago) link

milo, did you go to that bass hall show? my wife and I went to that one. think it was two years ago

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

I didn't - found out too late and good tickets were getting scalped for waaaaaay too much

ty for this bryan - really good interview. first five minutes foreshadows some of the new series, in case anyone wants to skip.

Just saying. (stevie), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 16:16 (eleven years ago) link

Came out last week.

yeah, i meant 60 plus 15 tax/fees which i think IS what he did last time.

In terms of starting fresh with new material, Louis claims Carlin taught him that; watch through this:

that interview is great

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

really want to see who he's talking about for the "best actor of the season" for episode 11, apparently he's a non-actor icon, was thinking it was Seinfeld but, no way

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 17:53 (eleven years ago) link

okay it's definitely not Seinfeld
this season is gonna be awesome, I really think it's going to be better than the first two

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 17:54 (eleven years ago) link

xpost That was an absolutely beautiful clip.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 18:03 (eleven years ago) link

I'm just listening to the Simmons/CK interview now, hahah the stuff Louis says about Sorkin is awesome

He "hate-watched" Studio 60. Hee hee.

@louisck
well. after 45 hours, my tour has sold 100K tickets, box office gross of 4.5 mil $ (not all mine). I guess it was a good idea.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 22:01 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah I initially thought $45 was pretty steep for a comedy show before finding out that's actually really low-end for a guy who's reaching Dave Chapelle-like levels of popularity

frogbs, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 22:10 (eleven years ago) link

holy fuck. he sold out every new york show! I was waiting till the evening to balance my schedule. My bad i guess.
i think it's likely he'll add a new york show though; i need to keep an eye out there.
his twitter right now is awesome, he's just answering everyone.
