Few had backed England to progress to the last eight, let alone finish ahead of France, but Hart says that was never a view shared by himself or his team-mates.

from superdry rep interview: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18534148

wtf... yes FEW had backed them, they've done AMAZING just to get out of the group.

looks like it.

xp. if few really had backed england to get out of the group stage it was only because bookies were offering the prohibitively short odds of 1-2 to do so.

we bought gassy water 6 times, and salt instead of sugar.
we conducted a singsong of about 800 fans for two hours in poznan centrum one night.
sang/chanted everywhere we went, must be all over youtube in poland.
ppl queued for an hour to get their pic taken with out famous 'long cox will hurt you in the box' tricolour
driving a campervan is more fun than sleeping in one.
undernourished, underslept, off drink and meat for the next fortnight imo.
worth doin.

According to Bild, Germany are going to 'rest' their front 3 (Gomez, Muller, Podolski) against Greece! Top trolling if true but no way do I see it happening.

pandemic, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:04 (10 months ago) Permalink

no way, already think Greece can mess with their game-plan

Mexès Coleslaw Massacre (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:06 (10 months ago) Permalink

the worst thing that would likely happen vs greece is getting to 65 mins at 0-0, at which point bringing on the big machers would step things up better than bringing on klose gotze reus

still bild has less credibility than der sturmer

Pretty sure I heard some TV talking heads discussing England resting some of their top players against Sweden, to "rest them for later in the tournament" - who exactly these top players were, I've no idea, Ashley Young maybe?

Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:15 (10 months ago) Permalink

Jordan Henderson. He's had an extra long rest

over the last ten days or w/e it is I think I've seen every single England player who's been on the pitch cited as playing well, and also as playing badly

for real though, there's no way Parker lasts 120 minutes if it comes to that

Number None, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:22 (10 months ago) Permalink

forgot Henderson was there, kinda makes Milner's ever-presence even weirder

Mexès Coleslaw Massacre (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:26 (10 months ago) Permalink

(xxp) You mean someone other than Roy Hodgson thinks Ashley Young has played well?

Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:26 (10 months ago) Permalink

By the way, I missed the start of Ukraine game, did Rooney sing the national anthem?

Too Busy Thinking About Mr. Abie (Tom D.), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:27 (10 months ago) Permalink

He sung Ukraine's.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:28 (10 months ago) Permalink

rooney did sing it, having not sung it when he was in the stands. i was looking forward to a good 'they should all sing it!' thing but ah well.

Chris, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:31 (10 months ago) Permalink

rooney did sing it

dis civilization and its contents (nakhchivan), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:38 (10 months ago) Permalink

Milner completes 9 passes in 69' versus Ukraine

whereas in Italy, for example, Milner might already have been granted a reverential nickname like "the Woodlouse" or "the Marching Gnome" or "Tiny Soldier-Legs".

boxall, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:40 (10 months ago) Permalink

did Rooney sing the national anthem?

Is this a thing? I noticed he sang it and was disappointed because I'm fairly sure he never used to. I also noticed G Nev singing it for the first match and he definitely never used to sing it. Has there been some kind of pressure from above / tabloid storm?

how can u care about probably the best paid squad in the competition (them or spain i guess) p much being outplayed for 80+% of the time so far and being the only side other than greece or ireland who can't play even a rudimentary possession game and being full or srsly despicable players?

dis civilization and its contents (nakhchivan), Friday, 22 June 2012 14:44 (10 months ago) Permalink

Apparently Hodgson wanted his lads to sing the Nat. Anthem, gawd bless you, ma'am.(XP)

It wasn't composed with sport in mind, I'd feel half-defeated by the end of that dirge. And yet you'd think the eastern ones would create armies of ultramotivated supermen.

You appear to be confusing football with rational thought.

Matt DC, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:48 (10 months ago) Permalink

I'm struggling to care as much as I did in 2004 though. Probably missing the Sweden game has had some impact there.

I'm not missing the Sweden game that much.
