I've received 50 ballots so far...since I got 60 last year I would say we're definitely on pace to break the record.

a couple of great drum & bass tracks:

High Contrast - If We Ever

Danny Byrd - Shock Out

Come on, there has to be more than fifty voters. Doesn't the ILX group on Last.fm have a few hundred members???

ilxor, Monday, 19 January 2009 19:58 (fifteen years ago) link

most ilxors are too busy/lazy to compile a list AND email it.

Just in case anyone else is doing this as late as I am and feels tempted to splurge their load all over this thread:

not that i am seeing any big obvious trends or whatever but let's not post our ballots, i like keeping things a mystery

^^^

Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:18 (fifteen years ago) link

aah i am doing this NOW

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:22 (fifteen years ago) link

GREAT MINDS, Lex. Great minds.

Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I might actually delete this thread temporarily after the ballot has closed, partly to preserve a bit of mystery but also to stop endless personal lists appearing.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:27 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost to Lex

(Although I think "doing our lists at the same time" is possibly the only way we'll be thinking alike on this one. Especially given the number of times the words "Animal" and "Collective" appear in close proximity in mine.)

Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:28 (fifteen years ago) link

I know that release dates are considered somwhat passe these days but wasn't the Animal Collective album only released last Monday?

Billy Dods, Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:51 (fifteen years ago) link

ILM: always ahead of the curve.

TBH, I think it's a bit too late to worry about that at this stage.

Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:52 (fifteen years ago) link

i approve of animal collective votes being split across 2008 and 2009 - hopefully this means the disgusting thing won't appear in either.

mine's done!

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:56 (fifteen years ago) link

ha, and there was an album on the original nominations list which still isn't actually out, glad to see it's been taken off.

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 January 2009 12:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha: mine are just submitted too. As always, the ordering's a little more tactical than I'd like, but hey ... isn't that what these things are about?

Now. Back to work. Shit.

Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 22 January 2009 13:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Lex have you heard the Animal Collective? (I havent yet)

"it's now or never..."

Ioannis, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

You know what I love? That it doesn't look like the Pazz + Jop #1 album is even going to appear on our top 10.

Mordy, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

how can u tell?

Ioannis, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

i feel like that album was annointed elsewhere almost before anyone listened to it. like, this is gonna be the best album ever -- press play -- yeah, this IS awesome, No. 1!! it's good, but so dull and patchy and so not very special.

rocks can be cool (rent), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago) link

XP I'm just looking at people's ballots that have posted here and only one person even voted for it (and put it at the bottom of their list no less).

Mordy, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Sorry, it's little more than 1. Maybe 4-5? Still, nestled in the bottom of those lists. That's not enough to hit the top 10 (I don't think).

Mordy, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i think it'll do ok. the real question is: what will win?

the pessimist in me sez...Animal Collective.

Ioannis, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:45 (fifteen years ago) link

It would be a shame, MPP's a 2009 album

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, did anyone actually vote for that? really?

xp to mordy: TVOTR will do fine. i'd be happier if P&J's #5 was nowhere to be seen ;)

Socktor Duperman (k3vin k.), Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:02 (fifteen years ago) link

I refused to vote AC as its a 2009 release. Will definitely put it in next year (assuming the year won't be so awesome that there are 20 better records released; although fingers crossed.)

a hoy hoy, Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:08 (fifteen years ago) link

phew, ballot sent

(no TVOTR or AC on it if you must know)

Jeff W, Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:08 (fifteen years ago) link

I've received 80 ballots so far...i have not yet started the tallying process but i promise to post cryptic notes over the weekend about the placements.

miss precious perfect (musically), Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Mordy beware the lurkers. Some people wont admit to voting for certain albums simply because they know they will take abuse from some posters for being "corny indie fuxors".
Animal Collective is a 2009 release, but if it places this year it shouldn't be allowed in next years. Otherwise it will end up like that Annie album(which will probably still end up being in next years poll)

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:16 (fifteen years ago) link

I know I moan like fuck about the NME/Kerrang polls, but on ILX ones I try to stay away from that. I might not agree with some of the albums voted for on the metal poll I'm running, but I'm not going to give abuse to people who took the time & trouble to compile a list and email it in. I appreciate the fact that ilxors take the time to do this. I don't think ilxors should be ridiculed for what they vote for which then makes them to scared to admit it publicly.
