rolling out the ABBA results this week!

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

Cool! Here's a link to the results thread -- You can POLL, you can jive, having the time of your life -- ILM Artist Poll #20 -- ABBA (RESULTS THREAD)

I wish there was more Fleetwood Mac on Spotify -- I definitely plan to vote in that one, but there's a big 1969-1975 gap. Hopefully Youtube will provide.

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:41 (eleven years ago) link

The 1975 s/t is missing, which is very strange.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 4 June 2012 17:43 (eleven years ago) link

q: i know tuomas is doing a disco poll (that i am VERY excited about btw) and that they'll probably get pretty well-represented there but would there be any interest in a chic organization/bernard + nile poll? i would be interested in running it if so

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:58 (eleven years ago) link

That'd definitely work imo. What do you have in mind? Chic, production work, everything?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 4 June 2012 18:03 (eleven years ago) link

maybe limited to stuff they both were involved in? not sure yet

hahaha, Spotify is such a mess...check out the "additional tracks" on the 1968 s/t -- that's where they have the 1975 album tucked away.

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Monday, 4 June 2012 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

would love a chic organisation poll

gospodin simmel, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:59 (eleven years ago) link

+1

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 21:23 (eleven years ago) link

hah at this rate i'll have two years to figure out how it'll work so i will go ahead and volunteer for it

also ABBA poll est fini, so i guess the fleetwood mac poll can start now?

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Friday, 8 June 2012 02:29 (eleven years ago) link

The Fleetwood Mac timing is eerie.

clemenza, Friday, 8 June 2012 02:33 (eleven years ago) link

had the same thought

balls, Friday, 8 June 2012 02:43 (eleven years ago) link

yeah :/

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Friday, 8 June 2012 02:44 (eleven years ago) link

everytime i see that poll list i stop at #53 and think i have no idea how i'm gonna manage to put that ballot together

balls, Friday, 8 June 2012 02:47 (eleven years ago) link

For your sake, I hope Neil & The Horse have good doctors on tour.

Hare Kinsey (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 8 June 2012 02:49 (eleven years ago) link

Dylan is one of about three where 20 songs will be no problem for me. Even with the Beatles, down towards the very bottom I moved from unequivocally love to like a whole lot.

ABBA will be the one poll in four where a hearse isn't close by. So yes, hang on, Neil.

clemenza, Friday, 8 June 2012 02:55 (eleven years ago) link

these should all be run simultaneously, starting tomorrow

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Friday, 8 June 2012 03:09 (eleven years ago) link

Bee Gees extended deadline is tomorrow, so I guess no need to hold off starting the Mac. I hope Shakey gets enough ballots to generate interesting results...

Donna R, you're in at #61 with the Chic Organization. Thanks for running the ABBA poll!

33. Velvet Underground solo careers - iatee

Is this VU and solo careers or just VU solo careers? Cause a Reed/Cale poll sounds like a lot of fun

kornrulez6969, Friday, 8 June 2012 03:42 (eleven years ago) link

it seems a bit weird to consciously skip VU, but limiting it to reed/cale could be more concise.

charlie h, Friday, 8 June 2012 03:47 (eleven years ago) link

should point out that the electronic dance music of the 00s will be happening soon-ish, and for people to vote in it.

Paging Clarke B.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:29 (eleven years ago) link

I think I missed him by 2 minutes.

9 1/2 Gleeks (WmC), Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:33 (eleven years ago) link

with great power comes great responsibility

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:03 (eleven years ago) link

reed/cale tho I was reconsidering doing it because I'm not sure it will get more than 10 votes

iatee, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:07 (eleven years ago) link

*submits ballot with 30 nico songs*

buzza, Saturday, 9 June 2012 18:22 (eleven years ago) link

ILXmailed Clarke B

Biff Wellington (WmC), Monday, 11 June 2012 00:07 (eleven years ago) link

VU with solo careers is a great idea because the band's catalog is relatively small and the solo offshoots are kind of part of the same canon and it'd be interesting to see where they rank with the VU songs. just a Reed poll would be one thing, Reed/Cale/Nico etc. with no VU is just weird to me.

shipl.de.al (some dude), Monday, 11 June 2012 01:16 (eleven years ago) link

I'm alive! It's been a crazy month so far (I'm moving next week, for the first time in seven years--and definitely having some remorse about the amount of vinyl I've accumulated...), so I haven't been as present on ILM--apologies for the unresponsiveness. I'm pumped to do this poll, though, and I will design the parameters today and get everything set up and ready for launch. I honestly have no clue as to how I'm going to narrow down my own choices, and I have a good feeling this will be a lively, high-participation poll. (Speaking of which, shall I wait for the green light to post the poll itself?)

Clarke B., Monday, 11 June 2012 14:59 (eleven years ago) link

If you're planning on whetting the appetite with one of those best-album-type polls, can I suggest running a 'favourite member' mini-poll?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 11 June 2012 15:10 (eleven years ago) link

I'm looking forward to it! I don't know if the Bee Gees even has a sustainable amount of ballots yet to make a rollout happen.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 June 2012 15:10 (eleven years ago) link

if you've extended the deadline and want people to keep voting you should bump the thread and update the title so that people know, I just assumed I missed the window but may try to put together a ballot this week if there's still time

shipl.de.al (some dude), Monday, 11 June 2012 15:12 (eleven years ago) link

Sorry about the Bee Gees! I could certainly get my girlfriend to submit a ballot there. Ismael, I like that idea... But it's already happened:

Favourite Member Of Fleetwood Mac

Clarke B., Monday, 11 June 2012 15:13 (eleven years ago) link

Shakey Mo's last update said he had but a mere ten ballots.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 June 2012 15:14 (eleven years ago) link

Low turnout for Bee Gees is a bummer, but it would be good to get things moving again.

Biff Wellington (WmC), Monday, 11 June 2012 15:23 (eleven years ago) link

Shall I wait until there's an official closing date for the Bee Gees, or should I just go ahead and roll out the Fleetwood Mac poll?

Clarke B., Monday, 11 June 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

I'm trying to ascertain if there are other potential Bee Gees voters who just haven't been able to yet, or if I should just call it a day and go forward with the results from the 13 ballots I have so far.

retro-shittified (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 June 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

ok, gonna keep the Bee Gees poll open until Friday in the hopes that it'll top 20 ballots

retro-shittified (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 June 2012 20:54 (eleven years ago) link

the ABBA poll had 19 ballots fwiw

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Monday, 11 June 2012 20:56 (eleven years ago) link

yes well ABBA sucks

retro-shittified (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 June 2012 20:57 (eleven years ago) link

lol

Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 June 2012 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

I could vote in Bee Gees but I'm on the road for a long time & have no way to do any concentrated listening; do you want a top of the head ballot which will be slanted toward hits? I feel the view that the pollz are for headz & I'm def not one for los BGs but I know enough jams; don't really know the convention around here anymore

Euler, Monday, 11 June 2012 21:32 (eleven years ago) link

you can just c+p my ballot if that makes it any easier

but seriously I'm for any and all votes. Don't care how long, exhaustive, or informed they are.

retro-shittified (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 June 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

plenty of youtubes in the noms thread if you want a playlist for an hour or so

retro-shittified (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 June 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

just vote for some songs, mang

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 11 June 2012 22:33 (eleven years ago) link
