Eh. I'm not scared of the small towns or the lack of English. It's more like - making a good impression on your bf's parents is already terrifying, let alone in your second language, let alone when you're doing so in a province where language IS politics.

talking of politics are you much involved in the protests alex? bill 78 outraged me

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 15:16 (eleven years ago) link

Alex, are your headaches happening only while having sex?? Or during other physical activities?

I'm happily sporting a sunburn on most of my body. Looking forward to having even color this summer for the first time in years. Torso is a little too scorched, after some peeling it'll be toasty brown.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 28 May 2012 15:32 (eleven years ago) link

Less than some, more than others. Ideologically supportive, was constrained during the semester because my (Anglophone, upper middle class, international) university's faculties did not for the most part vote to strike. McGill tends to divide itself from the res of the student movement in the province, though, even compared to the other Anglo university, so the fact that four or five student unions got on board the strike was a big deal. There were always a decent minority of people in the law faculty who were supportive but after Bill 78 tons of friends who were otherwise dismissive of the movement have gotten on board. Unconstitutional laws apparently piss off law students. Go figure.

Anyway, I've been going to more of the daytime marches and then casserole-ing in the evening. Night marches freak me out a bit because the cops are more aggressive then but I'll probably go to a few of them with some friends over the next few weeks.

I have to squeeze every drop of Floridian from my corpuscles before I get used to homes without central A/C.

congrats to you both btw

not a burn if you're happy

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Monday, 28 May 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

Ooo jurlfriend, it's a burn all right.... I don't get many sunburns, so it's novel and it feels almost invigorating. Might be riding a Vitamin D high tho.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 28 May 2012 17:36 (eleven years ago) link

Burns are not happy unless you are also into whips and sounding.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 28 May 2012 17:40 (eleven years ago) link

A few years ago it got up to about 105 here and everyone was completely dead from the heat because NO ONE in Seattle has A/C. It usually only goes above 90 a few days a year, if that. Some summers it doesn't even break past the high 80s.

The Reverend, Monday, 28 May 2012 18:42 (eleven years ago) link

it gets relatively hot here in the summer, but it also gets crazy cold in the winter and the buildings are old and apartments are cheap and students be poor.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 28 May 2012 19:52 (eleven years ago) link

br3nt and i spent the weekend in joshua tree, hiking and looking at crazy outdoor sculpture and drinking at pappy and harriet's and a visit to the INTEGRATRON and mad hotel room cuddlez (specifically the hotel where gram parsons OD'd!). we just passed the three-month mark ourselves, and (work pending) we'll be going to SF for a week mid-june. i'm still super-crazy about him.

and now off to a bbq!

Hey, my friend wrote a piece for the HuffPo about stalking your high-school crush pre-Web!

by coincidence i went to a farewell party tonight and am myself currently drunk

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Monday, 4 June 2012 07:23 (eleven years ago) link

His watch is too big, but I'll let it slide.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:51 (eleven years ago) link

I offered him a choice: a new watch or dinner.

go down on you in a thyatrr (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:00 (eleven years ago) link

There was a third option, wasn't there?

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:03 (eleven years ago) link

Haven't been checking the thread lately but thanks for the b-day wishes, y'all! xoxoxoxo

donna, after the horror debacle, no more polls for me. :)

soto, are you moving?

Terrible movie: Shame (still better than Drive, though)

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:52 (eleven years ago) link

meh, Drive was a little funnier (intentionally, even)

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:55 (eleven years ago) link

Shame was garbage.

go down on you in a thyatrr (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:55 (eleven years ago) link

I'm guessing that wasn't Alfred's farewell.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:57 (eleven years ago) link

donna, after the horror debacle, no more polls for me. :)

Yeah, it must have been rough to see so many of your ballot given representation on (horror of horrors) an ILX poll.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:02 (eleven years ago) link

lol, oops, I just assumed that was Morbs posting.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:02 (eleven years ago) link

Still hoping to find a convincing defense of Shame from a gay critic. It should've worked on me, but nope.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:03 (eleven years ago) link

I'm guessing that wasn't Alfred's farewell.

"Shame was garbage" was what Mank originally had in place of "Fasten your seat belts - it's going to be a bumpy night."

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:09 (eleven years ago) link

I went to a belated-birthday gathering at the Monster -- West Village mainstay that I hadn't been inside since the (early) '90s -- and some patron around 80 went to the piano to sing "Over the Rainbow." Gayest happy hour ever.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:41 (eleven years ago) link

Why, was there an orgy going on simultaneously?

Björk lied (Eric H.), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:44 (eleven years ago) link

no, I mean post-sexual gayism.

(ie if I'm singing "Hand in Glove" in a bar in 30 years, shoot me)

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:49 (eleven years ago) link

LOL, oh you meant gay as in BAD!

Björk lied (Eric H.), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:59 (eleven years ago) link

yeah in the formerly slanderous way

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:59 (eleven years ago) link

Prideiest happy hour ever.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:00 (eleven years ago) link

Yesterday I brought/introduced my "friend" to a bunch of family at my bro's grad party, which is the first time I've ever done the pretend-not-boyfriend thing!

Delbert Botts, D.D.S. (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

Your brother wouldn't care, right? Which reminds me, how's your mom situation these days?

Je55e, Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, and what was the band whose name inspired a gay thread in the last year?? I cannot remember their name for the life of me. I keep wanting to say The Clash or The Cult, but it's not them. And I don't remember any of their songs. Halp.

Je55e, Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:54 (eleven years ago) link

The Fall?

I went to Dyke Day in the park yesterday and it ruled. Made some new pals, got fairly burnt. Later we went to the soon-to-be closing bartender made us two xxxxxtra strong sidecars that I am still reeling from.

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:49 (eleven years ago) link

soon-to-be-closing piano bar where the bartender*

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:50 (eleven years ago) link

ARGH! Yes, The Fall! Thank you. That was driving me nuts.

Je55e, Sunday, 10 June 2012 21:07 (eleven years ago) link

Oh he knows and he's totally cool w it, and I'm suuuure the rest of my family suspects now. Things w mom are going p great these days!

So I go to the annual Folsom East fair near the NY Eagle, when I can manage it, even tho I'm not (hugely) fetishistic. Wondering if this will be the last (borderline nsfw?):

I won't post any pics of the pie-eating contest right now.

i'm hoppin' on a plane to SF after work but will likely be avoiding pride-related activities (if any of them are even going on)

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Thursday, 14 June 2012 18:33 (eleven years ago) link

we are going to a gay shabbat dinner, tho

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Thursday, 14 June 2012 18:33 (eleven years ago) link

Morbs, your screen name thingy is to die for.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 14 June 2012 19:27 (eleven years ago) link

There's only one thing worse than a screen name being talked about.

old people are made of poop (Eric H.), Thursday, 14 June 2012 19:29 (eleven years ago) link

thx KJB, it's my special Prideful June screen name.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 14 June 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link

Coincidentally ...

old people are made of poop (Eric H.), Thursday, 14 June 2012 19:45 (eleven years ago) link

that's what yours is?

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 14 June 2012 19:51 (eleven years ago) link

It was a cheap/easy punchline, admittedly. (But it did come from a gay YouTube vid I just saw a couple days ago, for real.)
