I shall drink wine tonight and try to get nervous about new job.

Ms Misery, Friday, 22 August 2008 15:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Drunk in the oh so classy environs of the Campbell Apartment in grand central it is a mix of gin, brandy vermouth and bitters in a 2:1:1:Dash ratio stirred over ice with a twist in a martini glass. Campbell apartment completes my round of Grand Central drinking and although it is the classiest and best mixer of drinks I like Cipriani because you sit in the main hall and watch the world go by.

I should have said not get nervous. Nervous is a bad state.

I could never get the hang of Ciprani although I don't do cocktails in general.

Ms Misery, Friday, 22 August 2008 15:30 (fifteen years ago) link

that drink sounds heavenly! i think i may have a nice cocktail this evening to enhance my celebratory mood.

tehresa, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Why not start now?

Ed, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:13 (fifteen years ago) link

still at work. no easy access to a nice bev.

tehresa, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:15 (fifteen years ago) link

unless you count the coffee i still haven't managed to finish.

tehresa, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Take a two-martini lunch. What are they going to do? Fire you?

Ms Misery, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

lol. i definitely would if there were a bar in the vicinity! perhaps i'll have a beer at the mexican place? i don't know. i have an important call to make while i am on lunch so i don't know about drinking. anyway, only 5 hours to go; i think i can make it! i do, however, need drinking partners for after work!

tehresa, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

iron0012 on Twitter is me. Hello!

Dan I., Friday, 22 August 2008 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm going to celebrate your last day tonight, too, tehresa! Kids will both be staying overnight for their last "day" of camp, so A. and I get our first night off from the kids in TEN YEARS! Definitely having a drink or two. Plus sushi.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

awesome!! enjoy!!! we will telepathically toast!

tehresa, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm so excited, it's just ridiculous. We probably won't even stay out late. But we *could*! I will definitely telepathically toast.

Hi Dan I.! Thank you for solving that mystery. :)

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I can drink after work, but need to go home first and pick up dry cleaning and pack.

Ed, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link

oh hello Dan I. !!!

now the mystery is solved :0

I don't know why it makes me so happy but finding out that Willie Nelson has his own brand of Bio diesel call BioWillie really does

http://www.biowillieusa.com/

Ed, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

That is amazing. "BioWillie" is an awesome name, too.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 18:22 (fifteen years ago) link

have just applied to another bookstore in berkeley. wish me luck guys :/

Rubyredd, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Hope you get it.

Ed, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:32 (fifteen years ago) link

i found out some bad news last weekend: apparently a whole bunch of bookstores hae closed in the bay area recently, putting a lot of experienced booksellers out of work. this is my competition.

Rubyredd, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:34 (fifteen years ago) link

ARGH that is bad luck. But still, you're awesome, so they should hire you.

Don't tell anyone I told you this, but bookselling is not rocket science, and if you've worked in other retail and you're familiar with books, you should be able to do the job just fine.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:35 (fifteen years ago) link

see, that's exactly what i think! i mean, i know it's important to be a bibliophile and shit, and i kind of am about some specialty stuff, but i can learn, you know?

and i've noticed a lot of bookstore workers are rude here, too. hopefully i at least manage to get an interview this time. the add for the job was sort of quirky and eccentric, so i think that's a good sign.

Rubyredd, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Here is hoping. :-)

Meantime, how to make wine snobs look like fools:

I'm completely in love with this little section:

When he crafted the bogus wine list for Osteria L'Intrepido (Italian for "The Fearless Restaurant") Goldstein also included a 1985 Barbaresco Asij Ceretto, which Wine Spectator described as "earthy, swampy, gamy, harsh and tannic."

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 20:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm going to be pissed tonight if there isn't any harsh, gamy wine on the menu.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 20:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Good writeup for a friend of mine.

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, those are gorgeous, but sadly I have no need for those things right now (therefore I can't get them). Loooooove the fabrics, though! Your friend is clearly awesome.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh man, "awesome" kind of doesn't even begin to describe the force of nature that is 0nd1n3.

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't suppose you're bringing her along next week. (*sigh, tap foot impatiently, sigh again...*)

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, I keep meaning to email you about State Fair details. Like - afternoon? Evening? Dead of night? Just some general stuff like that. I am well aware that everyone wants to see the butter heads most of all...

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm thinking afternoon; I will send out something to folks this weekend.

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds awesome. (I like to sleep in and save my cheese curd-eating and butter-head viewing for afternoons, generally speaking. Although of course I'm flexible!)

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:30 (fifteen years ago) link

You heard it here, folks.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

*applause*

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

plzplzplz explain butter-head

lxy, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

The flexibility does not extend to my hamstrings for some reason.

Just so we're clear.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

But that means it starts somewhere else, so.

lxy, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:47 (fifteen years ago) link

omg lolololololololololol HOW HAD I NOT HEARD ABOUT BUTTER SHAWN JOHNSON?????

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link

lxy, I had a friend who married a butter princess. She had her butter head frozen and brought out at her wedding. Sadly, the marriage ended in divorce. I'm not sure what happened to the butter head after the wedding...

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I like how it's is carefully called a "butter head" and not a "butter face".

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:51 (fifteen years ago) link

omg lolololololololololol HOW HAD I NOT HEARD ABOUT BUTTER SHAWN JOHNSON?????

Hahah, had you missed that? Prominently featured in NBC stories on her!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:54 (fifteen years ago) link

I like how she and Lolo Jones are Des Moines's face to the world.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 August 2008 21:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i wish they had used the butter head for rolls at the wedding buffet

lxy, Friday, 22 August 2008 22:02 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^ this is often what happens!

HI DERE, Friday, 22 August 2008 22:03 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm so bitter that I was not invited to that wedding now.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 August 2008 22:06 (fifteen years ago) link
