what a weird world you live in where television keeps going when you leave the room

what a weird world you live in where television keeps going when you leave the room

my wife was watching it, I haven't seen one since the 2nd ep. While I liked it a lot more than the first, I didn't feel like adding it to my must-see TV.

is Hannah how Lindsay would have turned out after college?

Jesus, I can't picture Hannah on a Dead tour.

Really uncertain about catching up on this now if it's going to make me (or going to assume that I) like Adam!

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 11:23 (eleven years ago) link

i still don't like adam

horseshoe, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 13:39 (eleven years ago) link

I <3 Adam

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 15:09 (eleven years ago) link

He has different ideas about life but I feel like e8's more self-realized and honest about who he is, now.

mh, Thursday, 24 May 2012 01:28 (eleven years ago) link

adam is like that bad boyfriend in gilmore girls (imo)

flopson, Thursday, 24 May 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

u cringe every time they get back together but at the same time, like, you know you would do the same in her position

flopson, Thursday, 24 May 2012 03:07 (eleven years ago) link

Never watched that show :(

adam is cooler/stupider/awesomer-idea than the bf in gilmore girls!!!

and if i were still in my 20s i would have a hard time btwn the idea of such a thing and the thing itself

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 24 May 2012 07:38 (eleven years ago) link

everyone i don't think we can have a sensible conversation about whether or not you like adam just because he was all sweet in the last episode. a couple of weeks ago he was having weird picking-up-children-on-the-street conversations during sex & on sunday he was all OH SHUCKS NUTHIN MUCH JUST THOUGHT I'D CALL YOU. we are still pretty malleable.

he is a real good character though. just reading a book in an undecorated apartment by lamplight, or always making something with a powertool.

this last ep was great, anyhow.

blossom smulch (schlump), Thursday, 24 May 2012 10:35 (eleven years ago) link

It's not even the conversation (though it doesn't help), so much as the "This is just something I'm doing during sex, without any thought of how you might feel about it or how it might affect you (or memory of it afterwards)", like Hannah was just there to add texture to his wanking.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 24 May 2012 11:15 (eleven years ago) link

I like Adam!

wolf kabob (ENBB), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:16 (eleven years ago) link

This was really great. Impressing more with each episode, even if it's got some rough bits. Some good lines. I liked Tako.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:20 (eleven years ago) link

this really just keeps getting better. sad that I don't know how the non-sexual groin massage ended

X-post Me too. Also <3 Shoshona.

can't really complain since I'm using someone else's account, but still

That thing looks likes it's going to jump up and fuck u in the mouth (or something like that).

wolf kabob (ENBB), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:24 (eleven years ago) link

Eh. She sort of was though.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:24 (eleven years ago) link

calling someone a tease scans as a total rapeyface thing to say to me though

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:26 (eleven years ago) link

Well, sure, it's a shitty thing to call someone.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:27 (eleven years ago) link

It would be nice if this were the jumping-off point for some sort of Jessa development - mainly that she realises her actions are (THEME) selfish and actually do have an effect on those around her. Weed dad was a total saddo, and the 'tease' line confirmed the kind of guy he is (although really he's just a saddo trying at something he's not and failing so the 'tease' comment was probably less earnest and more a go-to), but he got decked by the crustie punks just because of Jessa's shitty actions. And nobody ever calls her out on them.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:28 (eleven years ago) link

oh btw the title cards for this show are great and this weeks was extra special

and ^^ otm

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:28 (eleven years ago) link

x-post - I just meant that in general she knew that he had the hots for her and was playing up to it since they met. He was angry at her and said a shitty thing but people often do say shitty things when they're angry. I never really had any sympathy for him at all though. What is that guy from anyway? He looks v familiar to me.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:30 (eleven years ago) link

Donal Logue Impersonator's Troupe iirc

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:40 (eleven years ago) link

Caught up on the whole series yesterday (other than tonight's episode, of course). Adam seems like a guy who probably just had a lot of cybersex in his teens and grew from there. I really like that he's turning in to the love interest--the perfect thing that a serial TV series can do unexpectedly.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Monday, 28 May 2012 04:53 (eleven years ago) link

There should be an episode where the gals watch Girls using Hannah's parents' HBOGO password.

he was Wally on Mildred Pierce. That's why I recognized him anyway, but he's been in a lot of stuff.

mizzell, Monday, 28 May 2012 13:54 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, 'Donal Logue Impersonator's Troupe' is nuts!!! James LeGros is total indie-flick royalty (Near Dark, Drugstore Cowboy, Living in Oblivion, Safe, The Rapture, like 5 million other 90s Sundance touchstones)!

Walter Galt, Monday, 28 May 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link

Ahhhh, thank you! I tried looking him up on the ep list before and couldn't find him. He's totally one of those guys that you're like, "Hey, it's that guy!" but can't quite place. For me, at least.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Monday, 28 May 2012 14:32 (eleven years ago) link

He'll always be "sensitive pony tail guy" from Singles to me.

Bryan, Monday, 28 May 2012 19:06 (eleven years ago) link

Hilarious episode. Crusty punk confrontation, accidental crack smoking, non-sexual groin massage, Tako with a K, bike in the cab close, just great stuff.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 28 May 2012 21:39 (eleven years ago) link

I wish I could remember Tako's exact line about her name. "It's not a big deal, but it's really important to me" or something to that effect.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 28 May 2012 21:45 (eleven years ago) link

"It's not that big a deal, it's just something that's important to me" is the exact line. "It's just that I can usually tell when someone thinks it's with a 'C'" hahaha.

everyone on this show is horrible basically and so are we

jump them into a gang - into the absurd (forksclovetofu), Monday, 28 May 2012 23:38 (eleven years ago) link

I still don't understand what is supposedly horrible about the main characters. Someone please explain.

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 28 May 2012 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

They're self-centered and whiny. Also they are white and come from a middle-class kind of privilege.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 28 May 2012 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

tho ilx has a tendency to be weirdly judgmental of fictional characters based on some sort of set of moral absolutes.
