carnival acid.

there is some passable analog squibble but the average is still very high, cumulatively one of the highs of the last decade

probably some boring argument to be had about retrogression vs vanguardism in electronic music that ought not to adumbrate the sombre brilliance of a lot of these tracks

Crying In Your Face, but could have easily have been one of tens of others, particularly fond of 8 & 11.

laricheard

Argh impossible choice. And impossible choice to get it down to just 50 (even if you do seem to have most of my faves tho I will have to check which of the pwsteals and spyboters are the ones I really like.

It used to be down between Where's Your Girlfriend and Crying In Yoir Face but lately I've decided that the handclaps on Analord 8 are the best analogue handclap treatment I've ever heard.

ha i thought you hated these!

my default is "Laricheard" but i haves to admit the last 3 or 4 are just a melted cheese of loveliness in my head that i can't sort into tracks so i might relisteng

I think he needed a damn editor because a 20 track version of this would have been among the best things he ever did. The quality control is apalling but the highs, when he kills it, are so great.

Listening to Where's Your Girlfriend and the filter sweeps on the main riff - so fantastic. And the handclap barrages that come in about 2:20 - THAT is how to do handclaps, the dynamics! Sorry I was just ranting about Calvin whassiface fake rave handclap programming. AFX knows how to program proper handclaps

"W32.Mydoom.AU@mm" is pretty intense. and pretty.

i wz pissing myself when i first saw all the virus/trojan names for the last bunch of tracks

Everybody should post their own personal Chosen Lords. Like, how would you edit it down?

(I've got about 20 on my iPhone for bus listening. The rerelease on mp3 was a godsend.)

X-post IKR? Way to ensure that no one can actually google them to pirate them. Ginger genius humour.

ehhh going for phonatacid because i set about playing all of these in order and ending up playing 2 on repeat

some of the acidy numbers really benefit from floorshaking volume

It's called "hireth" where Mr D.James is from.

he's welsh?

where's your girlfriend for me, but i can't really listen to this stuff anymore, this stuff came out when id just finished my teenage years and was less and less enamoured with this kind of stuff, and i can never really go back to it whole-heartedly.

tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 00:27 (11 months ago) Permalink

using the word "stuff" a lot.

tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 00:28 (11 months ago) Permalink

He's Cornish. His parents are Welsh but hiraeth is also a word in Kernewek.

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 06:17 (11 months ago) Permalink

Feel quite similar to jim - my Aphex fanaticism was on the decline by the time I got round to hearing these and they do little for me

That said, iirc cilonen is pretty banging

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 06:42 (11 months ago) Permalink

Same boat here, excitement level nil on initial release of this series, but I always felt it was inevitable that I'd get around to hearing it eventually, like it was my civic duty as a former Aphex junkie. Similar to padding out a personal library shelf with things you know you'll like but don't have the strength to chew through at present. Anyway, got through about half. Bwoon dub.
