"class of 06"

I will continue watching this show only if they promise to never say that out loud again.

This Adam guy, I like him. No idea why. Pharmacy guy looked like the pale weird guy from Twilight. Lovely episode!

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 04:53 (2 years ago) Permalink

oh and loooooooool at the benefit. Pretty Girl Rock performance was A+

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 04:54 (2 years ago) Permalink

Adam seems much less hateful now.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 05:34 (2 years ago) Permalink

yeah I'm not sure how bc he's still pretty much the same as when we met him. maybe that's why? like, he just "is".

the tao of adam or some bullshit

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 06:08 (2 years ago) Permalink

We see more of Dunham liking him? Being into the seemingly creepo shit he was pulling during sex?

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 06:41 (2 years ago) Permalink

true. lol @ her sticker finger up pharmacy boy's butt

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 06:44 (2 years ago) Permalink

By this point if Adam ever puts a shirt on or leaves his apartment it'll seem really weird.

Dan I., Tuesday, 22 May 2012 07:54 (2 years ago) Permalink

feel like any time ive tried to pursue quirky seemingly-mismatched relationships where im also somewhat curious about what a person's deal is, my initial instincts were right & we were in fact mismatched

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 08:04 (2 years ago) Permalink

not saying this doesn't work in this show, but that it contrasts w/ my experiences or something

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 08:05 (2 years ago) Permalink

anyway good ep

omg scolari peen!

We just saw a different side of Adam, I think. The one that clues us into why she likes him.

those of you pitching a bitch about how horrible and evil the mom was for wanting to not bankroll hannah's ongoing peter pan syndrome might want to take a step back

No, you're not. She's pretty awful to her parents a lot of the time in a way that makes me cringe. I mean I know that teenagers go through stuff but at 24 you would think she could stop being a complete bitch to two people who obviously love her a lot.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:10 (2 years ago) Permalink

I think there's some kind of crossover point, or there was for me: in college etc you're just so on your own trip and why is everyone making life so difficult and ugh everything and your parents end up in the firing line of that logic and then, I dunno, somewhere in my late 20's/30's I look back and I'm just like, ugh I can't believe I did those things to my parents.

nothing quite as awful, but you know all that unthinking stuff of you say you're coming home for the weekend and then spend all your time drinking with friends when they had hoped to spend time with you etc

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:16 (2 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, I definitely did some of that too but I think I'd mostly outgrown that by 24. Also, she just seems to have a really shitty attitude with them like 90% of the time.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:21 (2 years ago) Permalink

definitely. are they both her parent-parents, or is the mom her step-mother?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:39 (2 years ago) Permalink

that's totally her birthmother. the quick edit shots are meant to reflect their similar appearance.

phooey and nuts and phooey (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

that's what I thought but I thought there was some step-parent thing somewhere. or I'm wrong.

besides it's the Freaks and Geeks mom, how could you ever be mean to her?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:44 (2 years ago) Permalink

So OTM. My dad had a big stroke when I was 22, after which point he basically couldn't talk in any detail. At 22 I was still in the above-noted mode, by the time I grew up enough to want to ask my folks lots of questions about their pasts etc, he couldn't do that. Regretz.

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:56 (2 years ago) Permalink

sorry if that's an overshare btw, it's just what vgrrl's observation made me think of...

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 17:57 (2 years ago) Permalink

I think the worst thing I ever did was tell my parents I wanted to have my 21st birthday at home in the big shed in the backyard. So Mum & Dad did all this work - I drove down with my friends like, 2 hours before the party, didn't do a thing to help, we kept them up most of the night with drunken shenanigans...and then we all piled in the car left the next afternoon, after lunch.

I sure as shit hope I said thank you.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 18:03 (2 years ago) Permalink

Sure this has must have been mentioned already but got a huge sense of Girls as a kind of fantasy sequel to Freaks and Geeks from this week's episode: from the casting of Becky Ann Baker as the mum to the Michigan hometown and suburban hinterland to the Apatow co-write - all very different to the shameless autobiography of Tiny Furniture. Found myself thinking - well, is Hannah how Lindsay would have turned out after college?

Pleased to see that David Thomson is also a fan, though I'm not sure he needed to bring in the Kane gang: http://www.tnr.com/article/film/103526/lena-dunham-girls-hbo-tiny-furniture-youth-economy

i liked this episode a lot!! I wish it were always set in her hometown in her parent's house! I think I just don't like New York.

my wife was watching it, I haven't seen one since the 2nd ep. While I liked it a lot more than the first, I didn't feel like adding it to my must-see TV.

Jesus, I can't picture Hannah on a Dead tour.

Really uncertain about catching up on this now if it's going to make me (or going to assume that I) like Adam!

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 11:23 (2 years ago) Permalink

He has different ideas about life but I feel like e8's more self-realized and honest about who he is, now.
