I thought Jagger was just great on SNL last night. He was in almost every skit, and always good. The one [commenter] cited was the deepest, but my favorite was the gay Charles Bronson early on. All his music was fine, too, although I much preferred Arcade Fire to the Foo Fighters as a backing band (and have never liked Jeff Beck more in my life, though the song was a mite off-the-cuff). Jagger is so at home on a stage it's mind-boggling. But I gotta say, the finale in which the SNL gang took farewell dances with Kristen Wiig trumped it all. She was so much the best thing on that not-bad-at-all show that I find it hard to imagine it being that good again for years. She made me laugh every time she came onscreen all year.

That Catchphrase bit wasn't actually on last night's show, was it? If so, I missed it. Those things keep being funny.

I stumbled over the last song last night after watching a movie. There was some problem with the sound on the local station carrying it, so I tried for ten minutes to find a clip online today (both Hula and NBC are blocked in Canada). Finally found one on someone's Tumbler--bet it's down now--and downloaded it. Thought it was just great.

I don't know how you could get through six years on that show without coming to terms with the fact that Lorne plays favorites and is super manipulative.

(My "favorite" anecdote (which someone may have noted in this thread, but almost 4000 msgs. so fukkit) is from when Bill Hader was on WTF and talked about the time he was about to go onstage and do his Vincent Price bit for the first time when Lorne called him over and asked, in reference to the sketch, "But...why now?". Hader says you can totally see how shaken he was if you watch the sketch. And, I mean, understandably.)

As a current cast member, your options are pretty much to just accept that Lorne will be Lorne or let that shit eat you up inside and write a book about how everyone on the show was a dick and Adam McKay got your Godzilla sketch cut and, man, fuck that place, who needs it.

I mean, poor Sudekis and all, but you can't overlook that iirc, the only two cast members to leave SNL as famous as Kristin Wiig is leaving were like Chevy Chase and Eddie Murphy

I don't think anything's set in stone beyond Wiig taking a powder.

Mike Myers made the mistake of sticking around for that '94-'95 season (which was the impetus for the 'Is SNL Dead?' roasting the show got in the press as well as in the halls of NBC, depending on who you believe) after most of his contempraries had already left and then quietly splitting midseason. Lorne had much bigger fish to fry at that time than giving superstar castmembers a proper sendoff.

i misremembered Old School as being before Ferrell left but nah it was after. i wonder how 'famous' Wiig really is, though, Bridesmaids was much of an ensemble thing than Wayne's World or any Eddie Murphy movie.

Jimmy Fallon's big sendoff sketch doing a Grease parody w/ Tina Fey was actually pretty funny (and lol that Fallon is one of the few people to have gotten that kind of sketch), so i was mildly disappointed that there was only the vaguest hint of comedy in the Wiig graduation thing

Eddie Murphy's wiki page is insane, his entire SNL tenure is covered in one paragraph under a "1980s acting career" section, while a "Singing career" is like 3 times as long

the send-off thing did feel a little weird since there's been a lot of rumor that a good portion of the old cast could split. Even if you want to make a distinction between starring in Bridesmaids or starring in Horrible Bosses or hosting the VMAs or whatever, the main cast has been there so long that picking one to farewell would still be pretty cold and political if others were leaving. However, Wiig is the only one who's definitely said they're leaving so there you go. Sudeikis was making weird annoyed faces but it's not the first time he's done that at the end of the show.

Samberg getting a ridiculous 100th Digital Short bit and a sequel to Lazy Sunday was probably more his speed than tears anyway

i mean i like a lot of the other cast members besides those ones but man it would be just about the lowest star power SNL in a really long time

sandberg is the most interesting case to me because he's definitely at the point where he could graduate into being in movies full time but his identity is so tied to SNL and its resurgence in relevance post-lazy sunday that it would be pretty weird to think of the show without him.
